The Moral Blackmailing of the American People
In Springfield, Illinois, in 1838, a young Abraham Lincoln delivered a powerful speech decrying the “ravages of mob law” throughout the land. Lincoln warned, in eerily prescient fashion, that the spread of a then-ascendant “mobocratic spirit” threatened to sever the “attachment of the People” to their fellow countrymen and their nation. Lincoln’s opposition to anarchy of any kind was absolute and clarion: “There is no grievance that is a fit object of redress by mob law.”

Unfortunately, it seems that every few years, Americans must be reminded anew of Lincoln’s wisdom. This week’s lethal Immigration and Customs Enforcement standoff in the Twin Cities is but the latest instance of a yearslong baleful trend.

On Wednesday, 37-year-old “queer activist” Renee Nicole Good was fatally shot by an ICE agent in Minneapolis. Good, who had barricaded her vehicle in an attempt to obstruct an active law enforcement operation, ignored agents’ requests to exit the vehicle and instead directed her car at one of the agents. Good actually then hit the agent, who was briefly hospitalized for his injuries. But before she could do even more damage, the agent shot and killed Good. The federal government has called Good’s encounter “an act of domestic terrorism” and said the agent shot in self-defense.

Suffice it to say Minnesota’s Democratic establishment does not see it this way.

Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey responded to the deployment of 2,000 immigration agents in the area and the deadly encounter by telling ICE to “get the f*** out of Minneapolis,” while Gov. Tim Walz called the shooting “totally predictable” and “totally avoidable.” Frey, who was also mayor during the George Floyd-inspired mayhem of 2020, has lent succor to the anti-ICE provocateurs, seemingly encouraging them to make Good a Floyd-like martyr and riot accordingly. As for Walz, he’s right that this tragedy was eminently “avoidable” — but not for the reasons he thinks. If the Biden-Harris administration hadn’t let in untold millions of unvetted illegal aliens, and if Walz’s administration hadn’t conveniently overlooked hundreds of Minnesotans — of mixed immigration status — defrauding taxpayers to the tune of billions of dollars, ICE never would have embarked on this particular operation.

Liberals and open-border activists play with fire when they so casually compare ICE, as Walz previously has, to a “modern-day Gestapo.” The fact is, ICE is not the Gestapo, President Donald Trump is not Hitler, and Charlie Kirk was not a goose-stepping brownshirt. To pretend otherwise is to deprive words of meaning and to live in the theater of the absurd.

But as dangerous as this rhetoric is for officers and agents, it is the moral blackmail and “mobocratic spirit” of it all that is even more harmful to the rule of law.

Most of us assumed this dispute had been settled once and for all by the early spring of 1865, but apparently we were mistaken.

What I most want to know at this juncture is why in the ever-lovin’ blue-eyed world is Tampon “Timmeh” Waltz, after doing everything his little pea-brain can come up with in the way of fomenting insurrection against the US federal G in his sorry-ass State, has not been locked up under multiple charges of treason already.

The underlying problem all along has been that self-dramatizing Leftist morons have been getting away with personal threats, acts of violence against individuals, arson, looting, and wanton vandalism without ever facing Consequence One for any of it. They snarl ferociously about the supposed “evils” of private property, capitalism, and White People generally but have never been called out for any of their patent hatemongering. They must be forcibly made to understand that the Left’s permanent Get Away With It© card has been revoked, so their usual schtick is just liable to get them ventilated from here on out, as should have been the case all along.

Sorry, shitlibs, no more blanket Leftard Exemption for you. The days of having everything your own way are done. Things are different now, and I promise you ain’t gonna like it. In the immortal words of the great Curtis LeMay:

A lot of mentions and RUMINT is that there are NOT enough cops out there to do what needs to be done, and that the White House is, per the usual, dithering on #TIA1807 (ie, the Insurrection Act of 1807—M) because smol-hats and ‘reasons’. OrangeManBad doesn’t WANT to be remembered for invoking the act (even tho right now, he really needs to, if only in Minnesota) and deploying Active Duty Troops.

World War And The Plan To Control Or Kill Young Western Men
When I think of the recent assassination of Charlie Kirk I see the event as symbolic of the death of civil discourse in the west. The timeline split at that moment leaving two distinct groups: The conservatives and centrists who cling to the fantasy that progress through traditional politics is still possible, and the patriots who now realize that a peaceful resolution is unattainable.

I also see it as symbolic of a deeper element of the culture war – Specifically, the war on young white western men. Kirk was 31 at the time of his death. Not “young”, but almost 15 years younger than I am, and it has left me thinking about the future for the next generation of western males at a time when the system is obviously hellbent on destroying them.

They have been the subject of economic warfare through DEI: Corporations and colleges give first shot to any identity group other than white males regardless of merit.

They have been targeted by social warfare: Demonized as irredeemable monsters by woke cancel culture and labeled the cause of all the world’s ills. Their ancestors built a civilization of unprecedented prosperity and so much material bounty even the poorest people are fat. They created the middle class, a concept which had never existed before in history. In 1890 the average global life expectancy was 42 years; by 1990 the average life expectancy was 73 years, all because of western civilization and the technology it created. And now, white guys are being punished for it.

They have been selected for extermination: They’re the key demographic that leftist governments want to use as cannon fodder for a mindless geopolitical mess in Ukraine.

Charlie Kirk’s biggest mistake was believing that the system could be defeated through peaceful discourse. He was wrong. It’s not just the insanity of the political left that makes peace and reason impossible, there’s also the machinations of globalist controlled governments working tirelessly to conjure a perpetual meat grinder through domestic and foreign conflicts.

One indicator of a coming purge is the open call for young men (specifically conservative men) to accept the idea of future conscription. Multiple EU member states have threatened to institute a military draft if volunteer numbers do not dramatically increase (so much for “democracy”). The purpose of the draft? To construct an EU army large enough to go toe-to-toe with Russia.

As I predicted in my article “World War III Is Now Inevitable – Here’s Why It Can’t Be Avoided”, published in April of 2024, the globalists in Europe are doing everything in their power to stop a peace plan from moving forward in Ukraine. They have been actively sabotaging the Trump Administration’s efforts for a summit which actually includes Russia instead of cutting them out of the process.

At the same time that a greater war is being fomented, there has been a relentless gnawing crusade to demoralize young white men. One could rightly say that this campaign also affects some minority men in places like the US, but let’s not play games – The primary target is without a doubt white western males.

Why? It’s hard to say for certain, but when patriots are called to action it’s usually white conservative men that answer. Minorities (third world migrants in particular) are far more inclined to lean into socialism and view western civilization as a structure to be torn down rather than protected.

All perfectly true and accurate, to the Nth degree. Follows, the meat of the matter.

In Europe, the current goal of the establishment is to crush the spirits of western men while protecting migrants as a precious commodity. In the UK, the narrative is focused like a laser on white conservative males as public enemy #1, while simultaneously demanding that these same men “prove their patriotism” by fighting for the elites against Russia.

I was watching a news broadcast from the BBC a few months ago in which a male journalist of military age tried to argue rational points on why men in Britain are reticent to go to war for the existing government. He noted that they do not believe that the leftist politicians in power represent them anymore and they feel they are being rapidly replaced by third worlders with hostile ideologies. Why would they fight for such a government?

A black female journalist involved in the discussion sneered at the man’s argument, then grinned as she asserted that nothing he says matters because he could be drafted whether he likes it or not. It was the evil grin of a communist – She knows she’s part of the protected class. She knows that he can be sent to die no matter how logical and reasonable his position, Meanwhile, she risks nothing in her support of continued war.

She was reveling in the idea of white conservative men being expendable. It’s the leftist dream, is it not? To turn their political opponents into beasts of burden and fuel for the fire of their Utopian fantasy. They don’t care about being correct, or moral; they just want to crush the life out of people who disagree with them.

Again, I remind one and all of Mike’s Iron Law #873, ironically enough one of the very first entries in that little pet project of mine: They will NOT stop. They will NEVER stop. They will have to BE stopped. And, as Brandon ruefully notes, that of necessity means war. Which in turn brings us right round to Bedford Forrest’s rough-hewn homily: War means fighting, and fighting means killing.

Truer words were never etc. Western White Pyrsynnzz Of Penis now have a strictly binary choice before them: A) come to terms with certain gruesome yet incontrovertible realities, or B) be ground into bloody gobbets under their noisome treads. In George Orwell’s novel “Animal Farm”, the communist Pigs seek to dominate the other animals by keeping them busy with arduous (but empty) acts of labor. They use this aimless labor to break the backs of the strongest animals on the farm. The horse named “Boxer” is a true believer in the common good of the collective, but the Pigs see his strength as a potential threat to their long term rule.

They exploit Boxer’s patriotism and ultimately work him to death. They then sell his body to a slaughterhouse despite his faithful service to the farm.

If you are a young man and a patriot in the west and primarily in Europe, YOU are Boxer the horse. They will send you off to slaughter in the name of the collective because you represent potential opposition. They will use economic decline as a means to pressure you into conformity, or leave you no other option but to join the military. They will then celebrate your death, because they nullified your strength without ever having to fight you directly.

What’d I just say? Prophets, Smith and Orwell both. The future they foretell is hideous, frightening, inhuman—and absolutely MUST be prevented, its proponents defanged and destroyed utterly, by any and all means available.

Updated update! Okay, okay, just ONE more. Trust me, folks, it’s important.

The elites view the warrior class as the ultimate danger, and young western men represent the best chance of a renewed warrior class. If these men ever realize their true power, the weakling elites would be wiped off the face of the Earth within moments. I hear the argument often that this kind of rebellion is meaningless without a detailed plan to rebuild. This is another means of control – Demand a perfect solution before action is ever taken so that nothing ever gets done.

Warriors understand that reformation only comes from the will to take action; the will to create momentum. They understand that civil discourse has its place, but if all it does is maintain the status quo then it must be abandoned. Warriors understand that the worst thing one can do is debate the obvious while the world burns.

Verily, we didn’t start this war. But we for sure better finish the damned thing, come what may…because the cost of losing it cannot be borne.

Finding Wonder in Christmas as Adults
My children finish school for the 2025 calendar year tomorrow, and that means we can finally go nuts for Christmas. Days filled with making gingerbread houses, sipping hot cocoa, gluing macaroni and popsicle sticks, and rocking out to festive tunes are on the horizon. For children, this is a season of promise and wonder. For adults, it’s wrangling sugar-fueled kids, standing in lines to pay too much for something no one truly needs, and reminiscing about the good ol’ days. Not very magical.

Even as we age, though, we all remain children of God. In fact, Jesus tells us in the Book of Matthew that we must become like little children if we want to enter the Kingdom of Heaven. Take a moment and think about a kid in your life and their perspective during this time.

Flying reindeer, a snowy workshop where every toy is made for a specific child, a jolly man who goes up and down chimneys — children hope and believe in things they’ve never seen. Their faith in this goodness is inexplicable. Ask a kindergartener why they believe in Santa and you’ll find an unfounded conviction that would rival a honey badger.

When was the last time we really examined our faith? Believing in God the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit; the Christ child born of the Virgin Mary; the power and redemption of baptism; the resurrection of Jesus and his defeat of death; and life everlasting for those who give their life to the Lord. These are not light tenets, and it can be daunting to confront them.

One of our family traditions is cruising neighborhoods looking at Christmas lights. The bigger and brighter the display, the more mesmerized my kids are. They float between exuberance and awe, sometimes pointing and shouting things like “Epic!” and “Wow!” They are demanding I “look over there!”

Just as children believe because they are innocent, they get excited because things are still new to them. How easy is it for us to become room temperature in our faith? Imagine a first grader seeing 40,000 twinkling lights in a 300 square foot space and saying “meh.” When was the last time we really examined our faith? Here we have the greatest gift in the world — eternal salvation! — and we fail to be impressed.

God wants us to be delighted and He plants surprises for us everywhere, but we have to be willing to look and anticipate His creativity. Sure, we may be caught off-guard by a brilliant sunrise or encouraged by a random flower pushing out of a crack in the sidewalk, but the Lord knows we as adults require mental stimulation.

I shouldn’t even have to tell y’all to read all of it, but I will anyhow.

The ongoing European disaster

Europe’s Unending Tragedy
There are times when Europe succumbs to an urge for self-destruction that defies rational explanation. The Thirty Years’ War provides a particularly tragic example. It went on long after its early instigators and key participants were all dead. Rational actors could have brought it to a close well before it entered its most destructive phase in the 1630s, yet the leaders’ ability to strike a balance between ends and means was lost to audacity, fear, greed, and fanaticism.

That war became infamous for its violence even before the Peace of Westphalia. In subsequent decades, Europe experienced several armed conflicts, but they were limited wars for limited objectives, fought within the balance-of-power system by adversaries of similar temper and mindset.

The “Second Thirty Years’ War” started with the lights going out all over Europe in 1914. It ended in 1945, with the continent in ruins, physically and spiritually. Its subsequent economic recovery was impressive, but the old intellectual and moral vigor was gone. This is especially evident in the low quality of the political class. No European leader of our time comes even close to the stature and vision of Charles De Gaulle or Konrad Adenauer, or even of their early successors. As a result, eight decades after the Red Army marched into Berlin, Europe’s politicians are displaying the same old mix of audacity, fear, greed, and fanaticism. It has the potential to result in a new, truly final, catastrophe.

Disagree. Actually, history shows us that humans are resilient and resourceful enough that NO catastrophe, however severe or crushing, is ever truly “final.” That said, though, whatever emerges from Europe’s “final catastrophe” might not necessarily be anything the rest of Western Civ could recognize as remotely European.

After President Donald Trump started America’s gradual disengagement from what he has termed Biden’s war, the European Commission in Brussels and the governments in Berlin, Paris, and London formed the “Coalition of the Willing,” an ad hoc alliance effectively devoted to defeating Russia. Its major protagonists—German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, French President Emmanuel Macron, and British Prime Minister Keir Starmer—present the conflict with Russia as an existential test of resolve. “Ukraine’s future is our future,” Starmer said in October.

The coalition maintains that Ukraine must be restored to its late-Soviet-era borders, including the Crimea; that Russia must pay for its reconstruction, with the EU and Britain preparing to seize its frozen funds under their control; that Kiev should be free to join NATO and to bring foreign troops to its territory; and that alleged Russian war criminals must be brought to “international justice.” These demands are presented as nonnegotiable, with the implication that eventually Moscow will be compelled to sign on the dotted line by force of arms.

By insisting on what amounts to Russia’s surrender, the EU and major European governments are painting themselves into a corner. The resulting mindset was epitomized by Merz, who declared last September that “we are not at war, but we are no longer at peace, either.” Last May, he pledged to make the Bundeswehr the “strongest conventional army in Europe.” Germany’s defense expenditure rose by 28 percent last year to $90 billion, making it the world’s fourth-largest military spender. Annual spending is planned to double to at least $175 billion by 2029.

And, as parasites always do, the pAntiFa variety is going hell-bent for leather to kill off its host. In fact, that’s for all intents and purposes the characteristic that defines them as parasites and not, say, symbiotes or something else more or less benign.

Here is a pamphlet that is being distributed by the insurgents (pdf warning, but it’s hosted here) at ANTIFA and BLM. It’s called “Why we break windows.” Here is an excerpt:

That’s why so many who espouse these theories imagine themselves as sitting around writing shitty poetry while other, less educated and intelligent folks, slave away in the gulags.

To show that there is no discussion, reasoning, or changing the minds of those who are trying to overthrow our very way of life, and

This is the reasoning that they give for breaking windows:

It is not a coincidence that shop windows have been targeted in protests against police violence. Businesses, be they multinational or local, are the tax base that pays for police, and without police they would not be able to addressing protests directly to the police is oblique, for the police answer to business owners and politicians, not to public opinion. It is much more direct to target their bosses, the capitalists themselves. Cost them enough money in smashed windows, and maybe they’ll think twice about what kind of policing they call for.

They are wrong. The police aren’t there to keep the poor people poor. No, the police are there to ensure that the accused receive a free trial. If the police cease protecting society from those who would destroy their property, those who wish to protect their property will simply begin killing those who would destroy and steal their property. The posse rides out in search of the horse thief, then the posse returns with the horse but not the thief.

They sure do seem to be counting on a heck of a lot of assumptions which are not now, nor have ever been, in evidence, don’t they? Fine by me, though; let’s all just see how well that works out for ‘em ere the end.

Predictive history

When you think about it, pretty much ALL history is predictive, really.

So these days I find myself ‘tween-wars, reflecting on my last visit to Connaught Place, which is well worth your time if you’re ever in New Delhi. I believe a while back it was formally re-named in honour of Rajiv Gandhi, but I have never heard any Indian refer to it as anything other than Connaught Place – which you’d think would be funny enough for the chippiest Hindu nationalist: A district named after Queen Victoria’s son, the Duke of Connaught, former Governor General of Canada, to symbolise the enduring power of the British Crown is now the seat of the Indian hegemony H1B-ing the world.

London ordered the building of New Delhi because they calculated it would be easier to control the Indian sub-continent from there than from the former capital of Calcutta. That was the only purpose of the project: to cement British rule. The King-Emperor inaugurated the new seat of the Raj in 1931 – and, within sixteen years, the Raj was gone.

That’s why it’s sobering to walk around Connaught Place today. The greatest architect in all the empire, Sir Edwin Lutyens, was brought over to design the Viceroy’s House and lay out what to this day is known as “Lutyens’ Delhi”. Did he know it was for a mere decade-and-a-half? No. On that timescale, the Viceroy could have made do with a junior suite at the Marriott. If you had suggested to anyone, from Sir Edwin down to the lowliest labourer, that the next decade would bring the end of British rule, they’d have thought you were nuts. And yet it happened. Because very few of us are alert to the moment when history accelerates past the delusional pseudo-permanence of the age. So Lutyens et al did not know they were building a magnificent new capital …for their successors.

That decade-and-a-half clock is now upon us – by which I mean North America, Australia-New Zealand and all Europe west of the Iron Curtain. We are building systems of control – digital ID, Net Zero – for our successors, and by 2040 those successors will be taking the reins of power.

That’s to say, we are in the last fifteen years of anything recognisable as the western world.

Follows, scads of evidence supporting that bleak conclusion—evidence I find nigh impossible to refute, therefore will not even try.

Right about here is where I would ordinarily break out my oft-used “I pray he’s wrong, but fear he’s right” plaint, but this time, I just…I just…dammit, I just can’t, somehow.

All solutions other than mass expulsion involve far more blood. Years ago on the curvy couch at Fox, I remember shocking Brian Kilmeade when I mentioned that, at the height of the so-called Irish “Troubles”, MI5 calculated that no more than one hundred individuals were involved in all the bombing and killing. America has the most heavily armed civilian population on earth. Is all that firepower just for decoration? For butching up the gun rack in the back of your pickup? If not, how many Americans would it take to object to their demographic dispossession and the sacrifice of their womenfolk? Are they perhaps worried that tea parties and minutemen and whatnot are no longer possible in the 24/7 panopticon state?

My guess is that they no longer give a shit whether they are or not, being fat, lazy, self-absorbed slobs. Read it all.

It’s more than just my vanity talking when I say this dude sounds a lot like me.

Apocalypse Now?
I am not prone to doomsday thinking, but neither am I unrealistically optimistic. When President Trump won the election for a second term (against overwhelming odds) in 2024, I understood that the nation had not been “saved” from the radical Left’s destructive policies; we had merely gotten a reprieve. Still, events this year, since Trump 2.0 took office, make me wonder if the polity is too divided, too debased, too indoctrinated, and too detached from “traditional American values” to survive as a democratic republic committed to the rule of law. For the first time in my life, I am concerned about the survival of the United States—not from a foreign threat, but from within.

Blue states and blue cities that had declared themselves “sanctuaries” for the millions of Third World invaders have now become the epicenter of a secession-like resistance to the enforcement of federal immigration law. Democrats’ frantic efforts to demonize, obstruct, and endanger ICE, with the active assistance of rogue judges, amount to an insurrection. Democrats seek to prevent the deportation of, and to grant de facto amnesty to, the millions of illegal aliens who flooded our borders under Biden—foiling our immigration laws. The only possible explanation is that Democrats hope to transform the electorate with Third World detritus, to whom they intend to grant de jureamnesty (and voting rights), thereby ensuring perpetual political control by presiding over the resulting welfare state.

This is not new—indeed, it has been going on for deacdes in California–but I had hoped the American public would rise up and oppose the Democrats’ Kevorkian-like national assisted suicide when it became apparent that importing the Third World was a conscious strategy to ruin America. Just look at the Somali enclaves in Minnesota and the Muslim enclaves in Michigan. They did not happen by accident. A Thanksgiving to remember

On a day to give thanks for all the blessings of America, it fell to Gary Beckstrom to announce to the world the death of his twenty-year-old daughter, Sarah. That will taint Thanksgiving every year for the rest of Mr Beckstrom’s life – in part because his child’s blood is on the hands not just of her killer but of the public policy that enabled the murderer to be on the streets of what passes for the national capital. Thanks, America!

Is Mr Steyn done, you ask? No, Mr Steyn most certainly is NOT done; in fact, Mr Steyn is just getting started.

Mr Kristol was the most prominent cheerleader for the two-decade unwon wars that made the supposed hyperpower a global laughingstock. After spending so long urging Americans to die for Jalalabad, he should surely have picked up along the way an actual fact or two about the joint. Otherwise, he risks appearing a shallow, parochial bleepwit whose “Project for the New American Century” looks more like a Project for a No American Century.

Facts? For starters, as I wrote in The National Post of Canada twenty-four sodding years ago, in Afghanistan it is forbidden by law for women to feel sunlight on their faces. Perhaps Bill Kristol could impose similar strictures on his own womenfolk and let us know how it goes.

To take him more seriously than he deserves, presumably Kristol believes that Charlie Kirk’s claims to Americanness rest on outmoded concepts such as being born in America to American parents and being raised in American institutions such as the Presbyterian Church and the Boy Scouts. Whereas to the Wanker Right America is nothing so vulgar and restrictive but is instead an “idea”, whereby simply by getting off the boat at Ellis Island and setting foot on American soil one imbibes the principles of life, liberty and the pursuit of nine-year-old child brides from the next village. Whoops, sorry, I mean the pursuit of happiness.

Had it right the first time, Mark, but what the hey.

For my own part, I’d like to ask a question if I may: Has there ever, in all of recorded history, been any other single person who has been so spectacularly wrong so many times as Bill Effing Kristol? President Trump took to Truth Social on Saturday to lay out a blunt message for Senate Republicans: End Obamacare once and for all, and give the money straight back to the people.

A: Well, maybe, maybe not; can’t say I really know, although all recent evidence strongly suggests that they are. Whatever the case may be, the one thing I know for sure and certain is that, should Civil War v2.0 break out in this country before too very much longer, they won’t be too terribly disquieted by it.

Whenever you delve into the modern history of internal national conflict you’re bound to come across post-crisis accounts from people who said “We never saw it coming…” or “The violence hit us from nowhere…” Generally speaking, these were the people who weren’t paying attention and they just happened to survive by sheer luck.

I think of this dynamic a lot these days. I see a large contingent of American society (perhaps 25% of the population) which has been radicalized or brainwashed beyond all reason or repair. These people (leftists) operate deep within a protective bubble of propaganda and zealotry; they function within a hive mind that does not deviate from the demands of their gatekeepers. They cannot be reasoned with, nor can they be satiated. They lust for power and the suffering of anyone who opposes them.

he question is, can communist subversion be defeated without using “authoritarian” measures? Is a constitutional republic equipped to deal with this kind of threat? When someone wages war on your society internally, is there a way to fight them while being civic minded? Probably not.

What we are witnessing in the US and Europe today is, in every way, a Marxist/Communist insurgency. It’s difficult to determine what stage we are at in this war. We have moved well beyond the stage of propaganda and mob influence into the realm of political violence, with multiple assassination attempts and terror attacks against civilian targets.

The gatekeepers for the woke communist movement are obviously Democrat politicians and media influencers. They have been consistently and actively encouraging mass hysteria and violence. They have used media spin to protect activist groups like Antifa, pretending that such organizations don’t exist. Whenever activists cause harm or death, the media and political leaders immediately move to defend that action as if it was justified.

They have gone so far over the top in their behavior, I have to ask: Are they doing this on purpose to trigger a civil war, or an authoritarian response? Do they really believe they will be able to use national instability as a weapon to get what they want?

This is what Democrat leaders are doing with the mentally ill rabble they have accumulated. They are aiming the naive and unhinged horde at the guts of the country and they are hoping to create enough mayhem that Trump, conservatives, nationalists, all of us get blamed for the uncompromising response that follows.

It’s hard to say what the end result will be, but I’m finding it difficult to see an outcome that doesn’t include considerable conflict and, unfortunately, bloodshed. And, to be frank, most of it is likely to befall the leftist side. For the sake of their own self preservation, I hope they realize they’re only being used to further an agenda, and their gatekeepers don’t actually care what happens to them in the end.

Nope, not in the slightest they don’t. As I keep telling ya, for those blackguards it all comes down to one thing, and one thing alone: POWER.

Every civilization faces a test. They rarely collapse from a single blow. Instead, they decay from within—through cynicism, decadence, and an erosion of shared beliefs. Augustine wrote The City of God to explain how Rome’s fall was not merely political, but spiritual: a people who no longer believed in themselves could not defend against their enemies.

Tonight, New York stands at a similar threshold, as voters head to the polls today to choose our next mayor. Among the names on the ballot is Zohran Mamdani, a socialist Assemblyman from Queens whose rise has sent shockwaves through New York, the Democratic Party, and our nation. His popularity signals how far the unraveling has already come. Like the birds of prey descending on Abram – symbols of forces that threaten the sacred – a flock of socialists has descended on New York. In the name of “justice,” they are gnawing at its civic and moral foundations, hoping to feed on its prosperity.

The speed of change has been breathtaking. It feels inconceivable that we stand here today. I write this piece not out of hatred for Zohran and his supporters, but love for New York. A city built over centuries that has been a beacon of light and progress for the modern world. As a central hub of the global economy, we now face the possibility of a mayor with virtually no experience, little practical education, and highly questionable values.

Mamdani represents, to me, everything I fight against.

I am concerned that Mamdani represents a burgeoning New Left, one in which American values like hard work and meritocracy are dismissed rather than embraced. Mamdani’s CV reflects a highly privileged adult life. Internships for his celebrity mother, rapping stints, endless protests – but little actual work. He holds a degree in Africana Studies from Bowdoin, where nearly every course description contains the same litany of buzzwords: gender, class, justice, imperialism, oppression. It reads less like a curriculum than an indoctrination — Wokeism 101.

He listed his ethnicity as African American on his college applications, despite being of Indian descent. His base is largely white, affluent, educated, downwardly-mobile elites. This group seems to believe that apartments in Brooklyn are a birthright, stolen by billionaires and landlords.

The stakes for New York could not be higher. This is the man that many in our city want to put in charge. A man with virtually no work or management experience, whose ideology treats financial success as sin, police as villains, and government handouts as the ticket to a life of “dignity.”

Now, we arrive at the Big, Tough Q’s.

Will New York remain a city of builders, doers, and dreamers under this kind of leader? Or will the builders leave, and take their incomes (and taxes) with them? The top 1% of New Yorkers cover 48% of income taxes. Scare them away, and we will be staring down a fiscal crisis unlike anything seen since the 1970s.

New York hasn’t been “a city of builders, doers, and dreamers” for many, many years, I’m afraid. As my friend Pfouts used to put it: “It’s a good thing they got the subway finished when they did. This ciry could NEVER build such a thing today, no way! A Chrysler Building, an Empire State? My God, they can barely even fill in a lousy pothole these days!” We shared many a good laugh over that one, although we both knew it was more true than it was funny.

Then again, except for isolated pockets here and there, the same transmogrification from builders and doers into pussies and geeks could be fairly said of the US generally. The kind of rugged, audacious, creative individuals who built not only NYC but America That Was itself seem to be mighty hard to come by nowadays, to our everlasting sorrow.

Is it time to start killing them yet?

There’s no reasoning with people like this
In an ideal world, I don’t think we’d all agree on everything, but we could find common ground on some things and at least respect that many we disagree with as still being fundamentally good people.

The problem, as I like to say, is that we don’t live in an ideal world. We live in this one.

And in this world, we have people who cannot seem to grasp that their ideological opponents are real people. We also have people who seem to believe that their own side can do no wrong.

Some of those write for The Atlantic, and folks at The Federalist aren’t letting them get away with it.

The threat of left-wing violence against senior members of the Trump administration is so severe that families with young children are being forced to vacate their homes and live on military bases. According to The Atlantic, they had it coming.

Officials such as top adviser Stephen Miller, Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem, Secretary of War Pete Hegseth, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Army Secretary Dan Driscoll, and an unnamed senior White House official have been forced to live in military housing, far more than in previous administrations, the Atlantic’s Michael Scherer, Missy Ryan, and Ashley Parker noted in a Thursday piece.

The authors have some thoughts about why, facing a dramatic uptick in threats and assassination attempts by leftists against conservatives, these officials might be uprooting from their family homes. The culprit, they declare, is “the nation’s polarization, to which the Trump administration has itself contributed.” Stephen Miller basically invited kooks to show up at his house and terrorize his wife and kids, see, by advocating for an immigration policy that hurts leftists’ feelings. (The irony is lost on The Atlantic writers that the group warning the Millers their kind will “not be tolerated” calls itself Arlington Neighbors United for Humanity.)

Miller, whom leftists like this guy publicly and casually fantasize about murdering, is “known for his inflammatory political rhetoric” and “regularly derides Democrats with inflammatory language,” the authors remind us. He was probably wearing a short skirt, too.

Of course, the military is to blame, too, because the fact that they’ll let key members of the administration live on military bases somehow invalidates the idea that the military defends the nation instead of just one political party.

Never you mind that only one party seems to see their ideological opponents as vermin who can and should be murdered at every opportunity, and will vocally call for their murder at every opportunity.

Never mind that this is the same group of people who believe the best response to disagreement is disenfranchisement of the electorate, forced re-education efforts, and literal concentration camps.

There’s only one way to make this stop, and it assuredly does NOT involve lawsuits, “dialogue,” peevish op-eds, or Voating HARDERER© at them.

From the title of this next one, you might get the idea that resident PJM squish Rick Moran has reached the end of his personal rope and is now ready to say fuck it and get down to serious business. You would be wrong about that.

The Socialists Are on the Rise in the Democratic Party Because They’re Not Dead

Actually, that’s perfectly true and accurate. Just not in the way Moran means it.

Tuesday, New York City will probably elect the very first authentic (as authentic as they can be), unashamed, unabashed socialist to the mayoralty of the second-largest city in the United States.

Urban centers in the United States where Democrats hold a massive registration advantage are susceptible to the siren call of socialism for two reasons. First, when resources are scarce, voting for someone for elective office who will promise the sun, the moon, the stars, and everything in between is a no-brainer. Instinctively, most voters know that what socialists promise is unattainable, but they hope and pray that some of the goodies will fall into their laps anyway.

Second, the wretched educational system in our largest cities guarantees enough low-information voters to elect Karl Marx himself. Voters not understanding the consequences of electing a socialist is how Zohran Mamdani will win the election on Tuesday.

In truth, the most significant advantage this particular socialist holds is that he’s not dead. No, I mean that. Mamdani’s energy is like a tonic to Democrats who not only haven’t had anything to cheer about recently but have been forced to vote for remnants of the 20th-century Democratic Party. Given the ideas of those 20th-century Democrats, they may as well have come from the 19th century.

The Democratic Party is old. The median age for Senate Democrats is 66 years, compared to 64.5 years for Republicans. A 2023 analysis found the average age of the Democratic House leadership was 72.

The Democrats’ “new ideas” are socialism lite — almost as if Democrats are too cowardly to go full-blown socialist, so they combine the worst of socialism’s controls with the worst of capitalism’s cronyism. The result is Joe Biden, god save us.

Wrong again, boyo. The D卐M☭CRAT devotion to hardcore Marxism isn’t because they’re old, or their ideas are, or they’re out of touch, or they’re stuck in the mid-1930s, or any other such rubbish Nor is it all about standing up for the little guy, speaking for the voiceless, feeding the hungry, housing the homeless, or making life easier for the American working stiff.. For D卐M☭CRATs it’s purely, simply, and exclusively about POWER—seizing it, keeping it, wielding it, and expanding it. Nothing whatsoever else.

Anybody thinking there just HAS to be more to it is hereby urged to extract their head from their butthole, have a good, long look around, and get current already.

FINALLY redux

Apropos of tonight’s Eyrie thang, Steyn piles on by way of the recent Milan riots.

What were they rioting over? Well, I saw one report describing it as an ad hoc alliance of pro-Palestinians, leftist unions objecting to Meloni, and assorted neighbourhood “migrants”.

Whatever. It doesn’t really matter, does it? I mean, it’s not like twenty-five arrests at a Tommy Robinson rally, two-thirds of whom turn out to be anti-Tommy counter-protesters. All that can be said for certain is that, if you live almost anywhere in the western world, violence is in your future. For the moment, it comes overwhelmingly from the political left and their various shock-troops, whether Antifa or your local migrant sex-fiends. Because the left are the most turned on by it. Even the comparatively peaceful ones can’t stop salivating over the thought of killing you. Here, for example, a perfectly nice respectable American lady – probably listens to NPR – has a grand old time beheading an effigy of Trump:

So does that mean Trump supporters can decapitate, say, Kamala Harris?

The most stupid and incompetent major-party candidate of the modern era has just “written” a book seeking to explain how everyone’s favourite glass-ceiling-shattering Montreal schoolgirl somehow failed to beat a “convicted felon” who spent most of campaign season in court. So, to pitch her book to fellow wine-moms like the decapitator above, Kamala has been out on the plug circuit. Shooting the breeze with leftie superstar Rachel Maddow, the former vice president calls the current president a “tyrant” and a “dictator”…

For any aspiring tyrants out there, if you’re wondering how to become one yourself, all you have to do is win Wisconsin, Michigan and Pennsylvania in the Electoral College. That’s how all the tyrants and dictators do it.

Is Ms Harris not worried that, by de-legitimising her opponent’s lawful, peaceful and democratic victory over her good self, some excitable types might try to, say, shoot his head off?

I briefly caught Mr Olbermann’s attention a decade or three back, and, from what I can recall of it, he struck me as a big pansy fagulous trannifilarious nancy poufter mincing dweeb of a homicidal maniac but who likes sounding butch by saying “motherfucker” a lot. Yet, in a functioning society, it should not be incumbent upon Scott Jennings to judge whether the guy specifically menacing him actually means it or is just an insecure over-compensating loser. As noted here an hour or so after Charlie Kirk’s death, at least seven Internet posts appeared to have foreknowledge of what had yet to happen.

I have joked for years about jihadist nutters being fully paid-up members of Local 473 of the Amalgamated Union of Lone Wolves. But the leftie nutters are beginning to feel like that, too. One half of the political spectrum is so drunk on its bloodlust they don’t even notice it. “Denver’s oldest gay bar”, for example, took the trouble to create a new cocktail and make a sign for it…

The old definition of a gay bar was: one hundred bottoms looking for a top. It requires a perverse genius to re-imagine it as one hundred bottoms looking, in the Britannic sense, to top someone.

YEEOWTCH, that made my butt hurt! Now brace yourselves for the heady, thrilling denouement.

Over two decades, I have occasionally quoted the words of the French philosopher Alain Finkielkraut: “The lofty idea of ‘the war on racism’ is gradually turning into a hideously false ideology,” he said in 2005. “And this anti-racism will be for the twenty-first century what Communism was for the twentieth century: a source of violence.”

Bloodlust mixed with moral preening is a uniquely toxic cocktail and, unlike those available at the R&R bar in Denver, it will not be content with merely a single shot.

DAMNED good squishy there, Mark. Yet again, I must remind y’al of the one, the only rule that matters: THEY SHOOT. WE DIE. Unless and until that changes, we’re all just whistling Dixie here, I’m afraid.

Update! A timely and very much related reminder from the esteemed Eric Raymond.

In one of my previous analysis postings, I outlined three possible scenarios for the future after the assassination of Charlie Kirk.

This corresponds to scenario 3, the one where insurrection edges into a simmering civil war a la Bosnia. I caught some flak in my replies at the time from people who thought an insurrection based in urban areas isn’t practical under modern conditions.

Antifa thinks it is. It’s what they’re planning for.

One of the things I have to remind myself of occasionally is that most people know essentially nothing about Communist theory and Communist revolutionary tactics.

Antifa is running the classic Communist playbook. Make the enemy fight you where you are strong and they are weak – where you have support among the people and (when possible) cover from sympathetic local officials.

Historically that has usually meant fighting from rural areas where the reach of the government is weak. But the Russian Revolution was an exception, and the revolution Antifa is trying to fight is another. Their natural home ground is large coastal cities run by left-wing Democrats.

Man, I really gotta come up with some kind of nomenclature to refer to those blasted things.

Sleeping through it update! Another ringing endorsement of refusing to go on playing the Left’s game by the One Rule mentioned above.

Somehow it is inconceivable to anyone on the political right that anyone might actually mean what they say about politics and actually be willing to fight for any of the things they claim to be willing to fight for.

Maybe Right Wingers could just look at the people saying “We hate you, we want you dead, and we are committing violence against you” and right wingers could think that they’re committing violence against you, and maybe they hate you, and they want you dead… and maybe you should hate them back?

What did you think “Civil War” meant? Vibes? Essays?

If the state’s monopoly on violence is corrupted to serve evil… would it not be time to break that monopoly? To enter that monopolized market with a new disruptive innovations, so to speak.

If the government is a usurper regime that doesn’t represent you, and is dressing up tyranny under cover of a barely feigned playact of legitimacy… Well you’re American, what did your founders do in such a situation?

Yet Even as millions of leftists openly celebrate this shooting and wish for more of them to happen, and openly state that they’ll see any who commit said shootings as heroes worth celebrating….

It is inconceivable to the Right Winger that immortal fame, their own sincerest convictions, true hatred, the judging eyes of their political forefathers, and the celebration of MILLIONS might actually be worth doing or risking something over.

Just sit back and pay taxes and keep his head down whilst serving the enemies who hate him and paying for their six figure salaries in government employment whilst waiting for more people to “wake up”… Even as they brainwash his kids to hate him, and “cut ties”, and cut their genitals off.

To maintain their crumbling narrative, the left weaponized a deeply flawed study from the CATO Institute’s Alex Nowrasteh, which purports to show that right-wing extremists commit the majority of politically motivated killings in America. This convenient talking point has been parroted everywhere to deflect from the fact that their side just murdered one of conservatism’s most prominent young voices.

But when you actually examine Nowrasteh’s methodology—which I have—the whole thing falls apart faster than a House Democrat’s promise to secure the border.

Take Timothy McVeigh, labeled “right-wing” despite his ideology having nothing to do with traditional conservatism. McVeigh was an anti-government extremist whose rage stemmed from Waco and Ruby Ridge, not conservative principles. The man rejected both political parties, described himself as agnostic, and supported abortion rights.

Then there’s Anderson Lee Aldrich, the Club Q shooter, branded “right-wing” despite identifying as non-binary and suffering from documented mental illness. Peyton Gendron, the Buffalo supermarket shooter, gets the same “right-wing” label even though his own manifesto explicitly identified him as an “eco-fascist national socialist”—hardly traditional conservative ideology. The study also classified a couple who killed a sex offender as perpetrators of “right-wing” violence despite the fact it was a personal vendetta with no apparent political motivation whatsoever.

Even more telling is what Nowrasteh’s study leaves out entirely. Notice how the data shows a convenient dip in 2020—the same year America witnessed the most destructive riots in its history. The George Floyd riots caused billions in property damage and at least nineteen deaths, yet somehow none of these deaths made it into his tally of political violence.

The Waukesha Christmas parade attacker, who drove his truck through a crowd in 2021 killing six people, also got left out. When you correct for these glaring omissions and misclassifications, the numbers between left-wing and right-wing violence become roughly equal—and that’s just examining the past decade.

But, the narrative that political violence is a right-wing problem took another hit this past week, when, Anibal Hernandez-Santana, a 64-year-old former legislative director for the California Federation of Teachers, decided to turn his politics into bullets with a drive-by shooting at the local ABC station. This wasn’t some random act—it happened just one day after protesters gathered there with their usual signs calling Trump “Hitler” and his supporters “fascist enablers.” Hernandez-Santana absorbed that mood of righteous fury, posted calls for Trump’s demise on social media, and then carried his left-wing politics into the realm of violence.

And that wasn’t all. Saturday night in Nashua, New Hampshire, 23-year-old Hunter Nadeau opened fire at the Sky Meadow Country Club, killing one and injuring at least two others while shouting “Free Palestine!”

The truth is unavoidable: the left doesn’t just tolerate political violence, it cultivates it. They spent the summer of 2020 making excuses for rioters while their media allies described burning buildings as “mostly peaceful protests.” They’ve created an atmosphere where their followers believe they have a moral obligation to commit violence against their political opponents.

We keep hearing lectures about “rising extremism on the right,” but the evidence keeps piling up showing exactly where the real threat is coming from. A popular conservative leader gets assassinated. A leftist union operative shoots up a television station. An anti-Israel radical sprays gunfire into a country club. And somehow the left still thinks it can wag its finger at conservatives?

Well, naturally. When you’re not merely comfortable with spewing brazen lies in the face of obvious truth but have actually come to prefer it that way, wagging a finger self-righteously at your hated enemies begins to look like pretty small beer.
