THANKS!

Requiescat in Pace (see update post below from Big Country!)

Odds are looking pretty hefty that Ye Aulde Colde Furye Blogge will be closing the doors for good sometime over the next week (note on that – see note at bottom of post), as I make ready to go into the hospital for more ceremonial lopping off of body parts. There have been some pretty gruesome medical developments along those lines in recent weeks, with things coming to what you might call a head over the last three days—wherein I fell out of my wheelchair, hit the floor, and could’t haul myself back up again, thereby necessitating a 911 call to have EMS send a cpl-three stout fellows with the wherewithal to pick my sorry ass up and put me back in the chair.

This whole sad rotation not once but twice, just the night before last. Believe me when I tell you that the humiliation was AWFUL.

So anyways, yeah—I figger the remaining four toes on the right foot are beyond salvage, which I don’t so much mind; good riddance, and right straight to hell with ye. I’d like to be able to save at least some part of the foot itself, but my expectations aren’t high on thst score either.

Since my left leg was whacked and tossed into the hospital incinerator four-five years ago (along with my all time favorite tattoo, my Naughty Nun on L Outside Claf, Bottom inked by my close friend of many years standing, Erroll Engelbrecht of Raleigh’s Blue FlameTatttoo), I’ve known the day when Mr Right Leg would kpon Mr Left Leg was more a matter of if than when.

And now, well, here we all are, drat the dratted luck.

Thanks to one of my oldest and closest friends, who generously gave me a MacBook Pro a few months back, I won’t necessarily be out of the blog-loop entirely. Probably best not to get any hopes up too high out there though, given the copious quantities of morphine, fentanyl, and (my personal fave) Ocycodone they had me jacked up on last time I had to go through this shit. Update as and when, folks. For the nonce, that is all, as you were.

Update! Apart from being, well, macabre, I think one of my personal favorite Chopin pieces fits in pretty well at this dismal juncture.

ALSO: big hearted ol’ rapscallions that they are, Barry, SteveF, and kennycan have come up with a perfidious scheme to keep Ye Aulde Colde Furye Blogge up and running, at least temporarily.

Update! BCE’s post is here.

The latest from Monday, May 6 – Mike has been moved to the rehab center within the same complex. Mike is going to have a long road ahead dealing with the loss of the second leg… We’ll start a fund to help defray some of his expenses asap.

The Daily Donnybrook, and other fine things

Welcome to Ye Aulde Colde Furye Blogge’s shiny new open-comments thread, where y’all can have at it as you wish, on any topic you like. New posts will appear below this one. There will be blood…

Mike @Substack

New Eyrie posts go up every Monday and Friday, although the time of day may (and most likely will) vary. Mike’s latest Eyrie offering is available for perusal here: “Screamin’ meemie Monday!” Links to archived Golden Oldies are findable down at the bottom of each post.

Please do consider subscribing to The Eyrie, gang; it’s free, unless you’re feeling big-heartec enough to kick in for a paid sub. Either way, paying customer or freeloading looky-loo, an Eyrie subscription is a bargain at any price, a move you’ll won’t ever regret mking.

All subscribers receive email notification whenever each new post goes live, although CF management promises not to blow up your inbox with a bunch of junk mail. Latest Eyrie offering is getatable (yes, that’s really a word—trust me!) for one and all to read and enjoy totally free of charge, regardless of subscriber status. However, a paid sub is required to unlock commenting privileges—an almighty incentive to kick loose and chip in if ever there was one. Thanks, everybody!

The Collapse of Communist China

Finally, someone writes what I have been saying for decades. China is now on the edge of disaster. And Trump has their number, but Trump wants as little pain for the USA as possible in our transition away from China.

Q: What does a billion+ hungry and pissed off people look like?
A: China

All communist countries fail and they fail bigly. Communists murder by the tens of thousands millions to stay in power and still they will fail. They always fail and they always lie, always and right up to the end.

I’ve been to China many times and have seen the empty ghost cities and the monumental train stations that are mostly empty. If that wasted investment were written-off, Chinese GDP would drop from 5.0% to 3.6%.

I have also been to China many times and seen the same ghost cities. I have been on four lane concrete super highways where a three hour trip resulted in seeing one car – the one I was in. On the return I did see one other car. Six hours, leaving from Canton (Guangzhou), and two cars total. Second trip on the same highway IIRC we saw two vehicles, a car and a truck.
When I went for the first ride in my friends new Buick out of Shanghai we saw overpasses with no highways on either side. Several. Ten years later there were still no highways. Don’t know what is there now as I have not been since end of 2019 and will never go back.

Civil War…

in Britain perhaps. Might notice some similarities to the USA.

Using academic studies on social cohesion, civil war causation theory and social attitudes surveys, he argues that the following preconditions are in place: elite overreach, factional polarisation, a collapse in trust, economic pressures, and the perceived downgrading of the majority population in a previously homogeneous society, are all present in contemporary Britain.

Meme Monday, Cheesy Impostor Edition

The next-to-last has been my attitude for the last several years. Men in women’s sports? None of my business. I’ve been told to butt out of women’s issues for years. Men in women’s bathrooms? None of my business. (Except that when my daughter was a preteen I’d wait outside the women’s bathroom at department stores in case she called for help.)

The last one is just for Mike and just in case. “I’m not quite dead yet!”

Perhaps what black leftists in America interpret as “racism” is actually cultural burnout

Yes, mostly that’s it. As my few* remaining black friends have also noticed, it’s not racism, it’s the culture. Most people are tired of the culture of crime, the theft in the stores, the drug use, the children born without fathers in the home, the rate of incarceration due to criminal activity, murder, shootings. It’s the welfare city syndrome – every democrat run city has a culture problem and an education problem to go with the destruction of the city in general.

Tune it out. That’s what most of us do. More murder in inner city Baltimore/Detroit/Chicago/New Orleans/DC/etc? No young person in Baltimore city schools can read or do basic math when they “graduate” high school? Local store gets robbed, again?
I don’t care. The democrats that run the city sure don’t give a damn. No one else does either.

Black Leftist Moves to Africa and Discovers That America Isn’t So Bad After All

Real shocker, ain’t it?
What do you think would happen if you eliminated welfare? Short term/long term…

Tariffs are going to KILL us ALL

According to the anti-Trump pro-China “media”, republican rino’s, and everyone from the Wall Street Journal to Fox News.

In spite of the fact that during term one Trump put tariffs in place and the effect was exceptional – American prosperity rose rather than declining as it had been – the China enablers (bought and paid) continue to push the old business school canard that tariffs are bad.

And here we are, April has ended with the market going ballistic and up, not down as predicted. Jobs, real ones not government fakes, continue to defy expectations. Billions of new investment is on the way. Countries are at the table now to work out deals for access to the American market, deals that will save their economy while bolstering ours and ridding us of the China problem. There will be announcements soon.

Between DOGE finding and eliminating the theft of your money, Trump cutting other federal funding, and tariffs replacing other taxation (your income tax) the goal is to eliminate income tax for the vast majority of American citizens.

The border is closed – no more budget dwindling illegals crossing, and the worst are being sent home with the remainder to come. The big drain on the budget will get eliminated.

We are still alive, and the plans are in place to make our lives considerably better and far wealthier, while enhancing freedom and liberty, the true underpinning of prosperity.

They said I would be homeless, begging for soup, and regretting my vote for Donald Trump.

Trump’s economic punchline is simple: relief for the middle class, deregulation of markets, and a rollback of the bloated federal bureaucracy.

Trump added that another facet he’d like to avoid connected to trade is allowing China to “make hundreds of billions of dollars and build more ships and more Army tanks and more airplanes,” when we could be making those dollars to benefit the U.S’ relationships with foreign nations.

Mike’s Alive (But Not Kicking) BCE Here

Greetings and Salutations Evvabody!
Been a minute since I trespassed on our host’s turf, but I thought I’d update y’all.
Mike’s alive.
In Pain, and now shy another limb.
Seems (according to the short texts I got) that they hacked off the other leg just below the knee, which now puts our esteemed host in “Lieutenant Dan Mode”

Hey
At least he’s alive
was going to say ‘still kicking’ but that’d be appropo I suppose.
So I’ll follow up if I hear anything else.
They got him on the ‘good stuff’ so it may be a minute.
More Later
Big Country

Update by Barry:
Big Country is faster than me 🙂 Short text chat with Mike a bit ago and yes, he has a matching pair of legs now, having lost the latest chunk below the knee. He has been told by the docs that the healing is going extremely well, good news there. As we would expect his spirits seem good. They have informed Mike that rehab starts tomorrow (Monday). More later as I am going to try and do an in person visit this afternoon.
I’ve already told Mike I expect to see him in wheelchair basketball in a few months…

Update from the hospital visit:
Mike is amazing. I’m pretty sure I would be less cheerful were I in the same position. It’s a tough thing to go through but Mike seemed to be comfortable. We chatted about a variety of things, old TV shows 🙂 for one. My first ever visit in person and it felt like visiting an old friend, which it was in many ways. Long road ahead for sure. The details are unclear at the moment but he thinks they will move him tomorrow and begin rehab. Healing is excellent per the docs, a good sign as that is always a concern with this kind of problem. Send your prayers and best wishes.

What Do We Have Here?

Some of you, those born after 1980, might look at this picture and wonder what it is. They’re people, they look like women, but something’s off about them. Were they AI generated?

Nope, that’s not it at all. The reason the women look strange is because this picture is from the 1960s, before the food pyramid and ready-to-heat meals. Before freedom to “express yourself” and the urge to put on a bizarre appearance in order to get attention. Before “my body, my choice” was extended to facial tattoos and piercings. There’s no green hair, no underwear worn as outerwear, and not a one of these ladies comes anywhere near 180 pounds.

One other thing. Look closely. Not a madam’s apple in sight. Bizarre, right?

Ukraine Minerals R US

Ukraine has signed a minerals deal with the US. A deal which has three primary components:
1) Secure “rare” earth minerals for the US
2) Pressure Putin to make a deal to end the war
3) Tell the chinese to stuff it with their wish to be the sole provider of certain rare earth minerals

Time will tell, but I expect a peace deal will follow soon enough.
While they deny it, the Chinese have been negotiating for a better tariff position, while backing down on certain tariffs at the same time. They really have no choice, but we do. Our problems from a trade war are short term economic pain, for china they may be regime and life ending.

Ukraine signs deal to give US access to rare minerals
