Thrilla in Ma…Phila?

You gotta love this.

Joe Frazier voted this year in Pennsylvania.

Frazier is a former heavyweight boxing champion.

Joe Frazier has been dead since 2011.

He was registered to vote in New Jersey.

It’s like they’re barely even trying at this point.

“The study of history is a powerful antidote to contemporary arrogance”

I never heard before of the guy who coined my title quote, I must confess. From the sound of it, it appears I’ve been missing out on something wonderful.

Paul Johnson will be 90 on November 2nd. He is one of the most prolific British writers of the last half-century and a superb chronicler of the past. He deserves the honors and plaudits coming his way as he crosses the threshold of his tenth decade.

Johnson’s perspective is often described as “conservative,” but I find his work simply good, factual reporting of history, unvarnished by ideology. He doesn’t cherry-pick the evidence to support a preconception, let alone a misconception. Conventional wisdom (which is to say, “left-leaning”) suggests you’re “mainstream” and “objective” if you claim with the flimsiest of documentation that Franklin Roosevelt saved America from the Great Depression and that you’re a “conservative ideologue” if you just report the facts. Johnson reports the facts, so he gets the label his “progressive” critics hope will deter readers rather than enlighten them.

In his early days, Johnson’s political outlook was, by his own admission, leftist or “progressive.” But this is a man who not only writes history, he learns from it. The more Johnson learned, the less credible the progressive perspective was. By the mid-1970s, he was a cogent critic of the Left and its union allies, who were bringing Britain to its knees. He later became a friend, advisor, and speechwriter to Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher.

Johnson is himself a consummate intellectual, the honest and scholarly kind committed to truth for the sake of it—unlike the charlatans, hypocrites, and monsters he writes about. He proves that you can be an intellectual without falling hopelessly in love with yourself, tossing self-awareness to the wind, or fancying yourself God’s gift to a stupid humanity in need of your wisdom. Of the more delusional ones, he offers a cogent insight:

What conclusions should be drawn? Readers will judge for themselves. But I think I detect today a certain public skepticism when intellectuals stand up to preach to us, a growing tendency among ordinary people to dispute the right of academics, writers and philosophers, eminent though they may be, to tell us how to behave and conduct our affairs. The belief seems to be spreading that intellectuals are no wiser as mentors, or worthier as exemplars, than the witch doctors or priests of old. I share that skepticism. A dozen people picked at random on the street are at least as likely to offer sensible views on moral and political matters as a cross-section of the intelligentsia. But I would go further. One of the principal lessons of our tragic century, which has seen so many millions of innocent lives sacrificed in schemes to improve the lot of humanity, is—beware intellectuals. Not merely should they be kept away from the levers of power, they should also be objects of particular suspicion when they seek to offer collective advice.

Heady stuff for sure. But now we get to the part I most wanted to excerpt.

None of Johnson’s subjects can match Karl Marx for sheer loathsomeness and shameless fakery. He was a virulent racist and anti-Semite with a vicious temper (“Jewish n****r” was one of his favorite epithets). On a good day, he enjoyed threatening those who disagreed with him by blurting, “I will annihilate you!” His personal hygiene was, well, suffice it to say he had none. He was heartlessly cruel to his family and anyone who crossed him. This is the same man who postured as a thinker whose ideas would save humanity.

We learn in (Johnson’s book) Intellectuals that the chef who cooked up communism professed to be “scientific.” In reality, Johnson argues, “there was nothing scientific about him; indeed, in all that matters he was anti-scientific.” His most famous lines—including “religion is the opiate of the masses” and workers “have nothing to lose but their chains”—were flagrantly ripped off from other authors. He “never set foot in a mill, factory, mine or other industrial workplace in the whole of his life,” steadfastly abjured invitations to do so, and denounced fellow revolutionaries who did. He never let a fact or a glimmer of reality stem the flow of poison from his pen. He had no money because he refused to work for it, then cursed those who had it and didn’t share it with him. His own mother said she wished her son “would accumulate some capital instead of just writing about it.”

Johnson’s lancing of the suppurating boil on the ass of humankind that was Karl Marx is appropriately merciless, and, as Reed says, “that’s for starters.” Read all of it. As mentioned in the article, Johnson also has a website which looks to be chock-full of more rich buttery goodness (“from 1971 onwards,” according to the archive page), which I’m definitely bookmarking for further perusal as and when I get the op’ratunity.

What now?

Does anyone have a good answer? IS there a good answer?

We’ve seen this movie before. This is how they beat Scott Walker in Wisconsin in 2018, Tom Foley in Connecticut in 2010, and Norm Coleman in Minnesota in 2008.

Why stop the count? Because that’s the only way to know how many votes you need to “win.” Sure, you can just brute force things by backing up a truck full of ballots. But that looks bad. You might even end up counting more votes than there are registered voters in the state. Better to eke out a narrow win. As Joseph Kennedy, Sr. allegedly said to his second son, “I’m not paying for a landslide.”

The thing could (but will never) be proved. Those who ran the operation are also in charge of all the potential investigating agencies. There’s zero chance they will use any of that power to uncover their own malfeasance. Think a Biden Justice Department will look into it?

Expect instead a media typhoon of propaganda insisting that the results are all legit, that any anomaly you think you see (or saw) is a “conspiracy theory,” or at any rate innocently explainable by mundane process details too boring to get into. Twitter is already slapping warnings on the accounts of those who point out irregularities. How long before they start outright suspensions?

Will it work? That depends on the president and his allies and what they do. The odds and the forces arrayed against them are immense.

What would I have them do? I’m no expert but the crew at Revolver has some good ideas: (1) challenge the late-night “finds” in the courts; (2) hold rallies in contested states; (3) urge GOP officials in close states to expose shenanigans and, if necessary, to refuse to seat Biden electors in the event of a fake count; (4) mount a campaign to marshal grassroots public opinion in the president’s favor. Convince the people that if in fact the election is in the process of being stolen, the president and his allies are going to fight the steal on their behalf. If middle America wants to prevent this election from being stolen, it will have to be willing to act—now. I know they are willing, but they need to hear from the President and his best surrogates. I’d get Trump on Tucker, tonight, to explain his plan.

But in another sense, the Democrats’ plan won’t “work.” Even if the steal can be made to stick, half the country won’t accept it. That is, they’ll accept the reality that power is now in the hands of a party that took it by fraud. But they won’t believe that the election was fair or the outcome real. They will believe, or be confirmed in a belief that’s been brewing for a long time, that the system is rigged, the process is fake, the ruling class are liars, the government is illegitimate, and that they themselves are subjects and not citizens—anything but a free people with a say over its own destiny. If the ruling class can get away with this, they will be able to get away with anything. And they will know it.

And they will be perfectly correct about all that too, every last word of it. In fact, we’re even further down the rabbit hole than we think.

Voter fraud is happening right now. We all know it; one would be hard pressed to find a single American on either side of the aisle who would not acknowledge that it’s taking place. Around half the country realizes (or is willing to admit) it’s happening in favor of Democrats, but very few realize just how deep this particular rabbit hole goes.

Lt. Gen. Tom McInerney does. The retired military man has kept his finger on the pulse of the intelligence community and national politics since retiring in 1994. He’s not alone in this regard, but what separates him from other retired military personnel is that his love for the nation and oath to the Constitution compel him to speak out even when he knows it will get him some heat. That heat will be coming based on his revelations in the latest episode of Two Mikes.

A CIA program known as “Scorecard” allows its users to change voting outcomes by hacking into the transfer between local reporting stations and state or national data centers. According to McInerney, it’s a small amount, under 3%, to keep it from triggering any alarms. He would know. He served in top military positions under the Secretary of Defense and the Vice President of the United States. His insights into the matter are coming at just the right time with election day tomorrow. Hopefully, it’s not too late.

It’s imperative that President Trump and whoever he can trust implicitly to look for signs of “Scorecard” being used in swing states. Lt. Col. McInerney says it can be traced. If the left is stealing this election, we need to catch them red-handed.

Done and done, dude. So…what next? Sefton asks an even more burning question:

We also have Miranda Devine insisting “the Dems will not get away with this” as well as the outstanding Michael Anton stating “It will all go according to plan — unless we stop it.” Well, Mr. Anton I am open to suggestions. To my mind, the only way to do that requires the five or six armored or airborne divisions to seize the statehouses and legislatures in question, arrest every damned Democrat in sight, seize all the ballots and/or thumbdrives (evidently that’s a thing in Michigan) and declare Donald J. Trump as the winner based on the real projections at about the time on Tuesday night when the Chinese yuan crashed.

And since that is probably not going to happen except in my mind, I don’t know really what can be done. The whole thing is now a hot mess of phony ballots, real ballots and the rules and regulations of six states, some of them changed literally almost at the last second before election day to make it impossible to reject clearly bogus ballots. How are the courts or Supreme Court going to clear that up, assuming we have a majority that wants to do so?

Look, for better or worse, in elections past when things did not go the way I wanted, I swallowed, bit the bullet and then moved on. But I never thought in a billion billion years that the American system of free and fair elections would ever be anything but that. And here we are, on par with Zimbabwe in 1980, or Mexico for nearly 100 years with the PRI (which is indeed where we are headed). Yes, the average Democrat voter is upset about what happened NOT because their party sabotaged the election but that they did not get the clear victory they were promised. And now, if Trump does in fact survive this not-so-soft coup attempt, it will further tear the country apart. Not that there is any love lost between the Left and America as founded (or what vestige is left of it). Funny how if Trump does win the shrieking about how the Constitution was ignored or destroyed will be deafening. Ironic, and disgusting at the same time.

It’s one thing when the thug terrorists of Antifa/BLM say “by any means necessary.” It’s quite another when what is supposed to be one of the two major American political parties says it as well and takes it to heart. They lost this election. They know they lost this election. Worse for them, they have lost a good chunk of their base – the disaffected, disenfranchised and so-called “marginalized” “victims” ironically enough who are that way because of Democrat policies. The Deep State machinations of power, thievery and perversion wrapped in privilege also took a massive hit insofar as it was exposed to the people. They lost this election months ago if not a year ago before the phony pandemic hit. They lost it when Trump stated to their faces and for the whole world to see on January 20th, 2017 when he promised to drain the swamp.

But the swamp is wide and it is deep, as we have now seen. So I ask Ms. Devine and Messrs. Goldman and Anton, who are no doubt sincere in their words, yes let’s fight back and not let this happen.

The question is “HOW?”

At first glance, the answer might not seem at all obvious or simple. But it is, even though the actions required to implement it would be difficult and painful. Via WeirdDave, the inspiring story of the Battle of Athens shows us the way.

Athens is the seat of McMinn County, which, at the time, was the nerve center for Sheriff Paul Cantrell, a major lieutenant of a corrupt Democratic machine which stretched from Tennessee to the District of Columbia. Though we will eschew labeling Cantrell or his machine politics “evil,” as this was simply the way things were done in many American polities, it is worth noting that before and especially during the Second World War, Cantrell presided over corruption and graft on an industrial scale. As Chris DeRose details, the Sheriff drew salaries of nearly sixty thousand dollars per year over his first six years that were worth well over one million dollars in today’s purchasing power. He was also appointed superintendent of the county workhouse for an additional salary of over two thousand dollars; DeRose notes that “McMinn County did not have a workhouse, making its superintending easy.” This at a time when the median Tennessee home was worth less than two thousand dollars and the starting salary for enlisted men was fifty dollars per month. Despite strict rationing, McMinn machine men never wanted for cars, tires, or fuel. Illegal casinos, speakeasies, and whorehouses payed thousands of dollars per month in protection money. Dozens of county employees were listed on the payrolls for the sole purpose of providing cover for a vast money laundering operation.

There were no “elections” in McMinn County through the war years. The ballot boxes were in Democratic offices, and Cantrell’s deputies served as the election officers, some of whom were brutal killers with the blood of innocent civilians on their hands. Other local thugs and felons were on hand to further inculcate the climate of fear, including a man who murdered his own father and, five months after the election, murdered his sister-in-law, an expectant mother, and an infant child. There were about two gunmen for each voter; DeRose further illuminates the chicanery, noting that some voters were temporarily imprisoned to prevent them from voting, while others had their poll tax receipts and eligibility certificates invalidated, “in some cases by the very official who had issued them.” Word was put out among elderly voters that their pensions would be held up unless they voted “the right way.” When the Republican election judge, a disabled veteran of the First World War, attempted to view the ballot count, he was dragged into the corridor and beaten, leaving him paralyzed. Another man who attempted to observe the ballot count was pistol-whipped, and one gunman fired at a poll worker who tried to leave the courthouse.

Several Athenians petitioned the Department of Justice for relief, knowing that local and State officials would not take any action against the machine. A hardware store owner wrote Attorney General Francis Biddle, imploring, “The good people of this county are sacrificing for the cause of America’s freedom but have lost their freedom at home. Both parties have lost the freedom of the ballot box, a dictatorship has been set up, the county treasury is being raided at the expense of the taxpayers, and the good people of this county would like to sell their property and move away. Your department is our last line of defense. Please, for God’s sake come to the rescue of a helpless people.” A minister wrote to Biddle of “a ruthless exploitation at the hands of unscrupulous men who sacrifice public liberties for the sake of private gain…nothing has been considered too low if it will enable them to perpetuate themselves in office. Decent citizens feared to bring their wives to the polls, and often felt it unwise to cast their own ballots…It is not possible for a letter to contain information concerning all the subversive and unscrupulous activities that have taken place in this county.”

In a sadly unsurprising echo of the situation today, the DoJ filed a report, then sat back and did nothing. However, since in 1946 Americans were still Americans, that was by no means the end of the story. A group of just-returned WW2 vets led by local hero Bill White put together a bipartisan slate of candidates for office, the “Ex-Serviceman’s Cleanup Ticket for McMinn County”:

As C. Stephen Byrum notes, the GI ticket was superior to the machine’s, “by any rules of logic,” comprised of men “young and old, Democratic and Republican, city and country, all veterans, all battle-tested, and all highly thought of.” The local Republican Party resolved to officially endorse the veterans’ ticket instead of running its own candidates; after seconding the motion in favor of the resolution, one party official delivered an excellent summation: “We are involved in a conflict with desperate enemies who have sought to subject us to tyranny and oppression…We feel a deep sense of obligation and now seek in measure to repay…Young men who have fought against oppression abroad will continue that fight for honesty and decency at home.” Amid a campaign of harassment and violence to silence them, the GIs persisted. Bill White, the most prescient of the group, felt that his compatriots were being naïve, arguing that they had to organize a “fighting bunch.” “Listen,” he said. “Do you think they’re going to let you win this election? Those people been taking these elections for years with a bunch of armed thugs. If you never got the guts enough to stand up and fight fire with fire, you ain’t gonna win.”

The Demonrat crooks and thugs stood their ground at first against the GIs on election day: beating some of the GIs; jailing others; ejecting poll watchers and holding them hostage; and even stealing the town’s 12 ballot boxes, locking them up in various locations under their control. Things looked bad for a while, the GIs confused and uncertain about what their next move ought to be. Then Bill White rallied his troops with a stirring speech.

Well! Here you are! After three or four years of fighting for your country. You survived it all. You came back. And what did you come back to? A free country? You came back to Athens, Tennessee, in McMinn County, that’s run by a bunch of outlaws. They’ve got hired gunmen all over this county right now at this minute. What for? One purpose. To scare you so bad you won’t dare stand up for the rights you’ve been bleeding and dying for. Some of your mothers and some of your sisters are afraid to walk down the streets to the polling places. Lots of men, too! Because they know what happens. A car drives by in the night and shoots out your windows. If that doesn’t scare you enough, they’ll set fire to your house or your barn. They’ll beat up members of your family and put them in jail. For no reason! Is that the kind of freedom you were supposed to be fighting for? Do you know what your rights are supposed to be? How many rights have you got left? None! Not even the right to vote in a free election. When you lose that, you’ve lost everything. And you are damned well going to lose it unless you fight and fight the only way they understand. Fire with fire! We’ve got to make this an honest election because we promised the people that if they voted it would be an honest election. And it’s going to be. But only if we see that it is. We are going to have to run these organized criminals out of town, and we can do it if we stick together. Are you afraid of them? Why, I could take a banana stalk and run every one of these potbellied draft dodgers across Depot Hill. Get the hell out of here and get something to shoot with. And come back as fast as you can.

Guess what happened next. Go on, guess. Hint: Thompson subguns, a German Mauser, a .30 cal M1917 machine gun, and “an enormous stockpile of dynamite” were involved. The happy ending:

The next day, a reporter noticed that the GI guarding the jail was armed only with a blackjack, with no gun in sight. He asked why, and the young veteran replied, “Don’t need a gun today. That’s what all the shootin’ was about last night.” Indeed. Knox Henry was sworn in as Sheriff, declaring: “We have accomplished what we started out to do. We’ve broken the grip of the political machine that has ruled McMinn County for ten years without regard as to the wishes of the people in how their government was to be run. When I say we, I mean the other GIs on the nonpartisan cleanup ticket and the citizens of McMinn County who helped us win the battle. We regret that the gunfight at the jail had to happen…Our only alternative was to use force…there will be no trouble of this kind at the next election. Any person who can qualify for an office may run with the full assurance of an honest election and the people will have nothing to fear when they go to the polls on Election Day.” Henry needed a whole new team of deputies, and pinned a star on Bill White. Almost immediately, they carried out raids on the moonshiners and bootleggers who had enjoyed the protection of the vanquished machine.

Letters inundated the local papers, with messages of encouragement such as: “To the GI Patriots, Athens, Tennessee: Thank you indeed for restoring the faith in America which so many of us had lost. Keep pitching and firing when necessary.”; “We have chicken-stealers and hog-stealers! House-stealers and auto-stealers! But the lowest, dirtiest of all are our election-stealers!”; and, “I congratulate you in the memory of my son, who lies buried in the South Pacific.” One GI carried a small paper with him everywhere, which read: “Remember…that no American can afford to be disinterested in any part of his Government, whether it is county, city, State, or nation.” The Tennessean praised what “has happened in the beautiful little city of Athens in McMinn County,” which “undoubtedly has awakened a thrill of pride throughout this machine-ridden state. Make no mistake. The McMinn County veterans and their supporters had first won their victory at the polls. Then they fought, with their bare fists and such weapons as they could seize, to protect their election from the theft attempted by force of arms before their eyes. This was no ‘riot’—unless Bunker Hill was a riot.” The “Boston Tea Party of Tennessee [caused] by a decade of election corruption and thievery, has stamped upon a brutal farce it had determined to endure no longer.” The battle was “what always has happened where men not born of a craven race have been pushed too far by tyranny.”

Major Carl Anderson, one of the heroes of the Battle of Athens, distills our lesson in its purest form: “Before you go, I want to say that I hope that our country, especially those places that are as boss ridden as we were, will take hope from what we have accomplished here. I think we have shown how to clean out those dirty nests. Anyway, we’ve done it.” These Southern heroes, Dixie incarnate, took back their town. Let us now take back our nation.

By all means, let’s. The soap box and the ballot box have failed us. The jury box may yet come through and avert bloodshed, although the early indicators there aren’t encouraging. Should it too fail, there’s only the one box left to us: the very same one that was used to liberate Athens, Tennessee from Democrat corruption and criminality way back in ’46. May God grant that this generation of Americans proves to be as stout-hearted and indomitable as their Tennessee forefathers were, in numbers sufficient to turn the Dismal Tide.

The end is near!

About damned time, too.

Experts at NASA have discovered a large object heading towards earth, made up completely of Joe Biden ballots. After calculating its mass, the scientists concluded that the meteorite contains approximately 19,000,000,000,000 galactic mail-in-ballots. An astronomical number, indeed.

When asked how they are so sure the ballots aren’t cast for the incumbent, a NASA employee said that there is no evidence that pro-Trump mail-in-ballots even exist in the universe. Team Biden has already promised to grant citizenship to all extraterrestrial aliens, even if they are bent on destroying humanity and devouring mankind.

It will take about 400 years for the meteorite to strike earth. Pending the unavoidable arrival, Fox News has already called this election, as well as all other elections for all eternity, in favor of Biden and any other Democratic candidates running for office throughout the Galaxy.

400 years? Well, no problem, actually. I mean, the debates made it apparent that they’ve gotten reanimating Cadaver Joe’s rotting corpse down to a science. Still, I do kinda hate having to wait that long for SMOD to finally show up.

Dereliction of duty

The dereliction I mean was not theirs. It was ours.

Over the past two days I’ve been composing a post in my head. Tonight I get home and, preparatory to pulling my thoughts together for a post, I check in beforehand on some of my daily (or several times daily, actually) blog stops, WRSA always being one of the very first among those. So what to my wondering eyes should appear but the two images below, which pretty much say everything I was thinking of saying, only way more concisely. So as to preserve readability for the geezer-types among us, I’ll keep them at their original size instead of shrinking ’em down, and stash ’em both below the fold. Don’t let that prevent you from clicking the link and checking them out, though; trust me, you NEED to see these, folks. You really do.

Plenty more on this topic to come, but it’s gonna take me a minute.

Texas tale

Ironbear posted this in the comments, and it’s just too dang good a story not to bring it right out front.

Texas Beer Joint Sues Church In Mt. Vernon , Texas
Drummond’s Bar began construction on expansion of their building to increase their business. In response, the local Baptist (church) started a campaign to block the bar from expanding with petitions and prayers. Work progressed right up until the week before the grand reopening when lightning struck the bar and it burned to the ground!

After the bar burning to the ground by the lightning strike, the church folks were rather smug in their outlook, bragging about the power of prayer, until the bar owner sued the church on the grounds that the church was ultimately responsible for the demise of his building, either through direct or indirect actions or means.

In its reply to the court, the church vehemently denied all responsibility or any connection to the building’s demise.

The judge read through the plaintiff’s complaint and  the defendant’s reply, and at the opening hearing he commented…

“I  don’t know how I’m going to decide this, but it appears from the paperwork that we have a bar owner who  believes in the power of prayer, and an entire church congregation that now does not.”

As the ‘Bear says, it’s that last line from Da Judge that really makes it sing.

You go, girl!

Say what you will about Candace Owens—and certainly, a good many alt-Right types out there don’t seem to care for her much, for whatever reason—but this Fauxvid-hoax slam is nothing but pure gold:

Candace Owens: ‘If you believe that government can stop a virus, then you are an idiot’
Conservative activist, author, and BLEXIT founder Candace Owens is blasting out some final warnings to last-minute voters and she is as blunt as ever in her choice of words.

Owens took to Twitter to tell her nearly three million followers that without social distancing from socialism, totalitarianism is the end game. The authoritarian leanings of mostly Democrat governors and other elected officials are laying the groundwork for a reversal of the country’s traditional free-market system.

“At this moment, our governments are telling us when to open our businesses, when to see our family, and when and how we are allowed to BREATHE. This is NOT America. This is not FREEDOM. This is NOT about safety or a virus. This is about implementing SOCIALISM. Wake up,” she wrote.

PREACH it, sister. Lots more in that same vein at the link, every word of it a gem as far as I’m concerned.

Update! BE SAAAAAFE!!!!

CDC says cruises are allowed to set sail again … but passengers are not allowed on board

Because SCIENCE™.

Fright flashback

What would Halloween be without a little Vincent Price?

I’ve complained about my hometown before, but am obliged to say at this juncture that in humble Hamilton, Ontario, Canada, we actually had something better.

The Hilarious House of Frightenstein was produced in 1971 by our one and only TV station, CHCH. This hour-long, 130-episode kids’ show combined the mid-century sensibility of Famous Monsters of Filmland with the then-hip look and sound of psychedelia: kaleidoscopic “special effects” plus Top 40 hits spun by “The Wolfman,” an affectionate rip-off of legendary DJ Wolfman Jack.

Frightenstein’s only real star was Vincent Price, who appears at the beginning and end of each episode, and reads mock-macabre poems and other interstitials.

Frightenstein’s producer tracked down Price, who agreed to work for $3000 a day, one quarter of his usual per-diem appearance rate.

He loved children, he explained simply. And the gig sounded like fun.

CHCH checked their tiny budget. They could only afford Price for four days, tops.

Four days it would have to be.

Everyone signed on the dotted line.

I’ve heard the story of what happened next from different sources, and it never ceases to warm my heart:

Price arrived at the modest TV studio, got into makeup and costume and was handed reams of doggerel poems about some crazy characters he’d never heard of before.

He’d read each piece once, put his head down, then look up at the camera’s red light and utter his lines perfectly in one take.

Next!

New makeup, new costume, same perfect delivery, hour after hour.

Finally, it was time for a break. The weary yet exhilarated crew turned off the cameras and lights.

Then they looked around and realized that Vincent Price had disappeared.

Oh well, they said to each other, what do you expect? He’s a big star and all. Plus he’s, like, 60 years old, so he probably went for a nap…

The studio door opened a few minutes later.

It was Vincent Price and a cab driver, hauling “two-fours” of beer from the nearby Brewer’s Retail.

He handed cold stubbies out to the cast and crew and regaled them with tales of old Hollywood, his days working with Karloff and Peter Lorre and Gene Tierney and Cecil B. DeMille and all the other greats he’d known.

Then he posed for photos with everybody individually.

On an overnight rush, these were blown up into 8 x 10s, which Price personally autographed for everyone at the station.

Over the course of four days, taping over 400 of these interstitials, Price never complained, blew a line or missed a mark.

In an era when standards of conduct were collapsing, Vincent Price insisted on behaving like the well-bred gentleman he so often portrayed on screen.

What a wonderful story. Like Sean Connery, Vincent Price was another icon from a now-lost and lamented era. Steyn Kathy Shaidle (oops, my bad—M) is right to laud his rock-solid, unflappable professionalism, and here’s the proof:

Also like Connery, we’ll never see Vincent Price’s like again. Which is really kind of tragic for the rest of us, when you think about it.

Update! Okay, one last hurrah for Halloween.

Can’t remember where I ran across this, so no “Via” link, but it’s good stuff.

Clown show

Treating THEVIRUSTHEVIRUSTHEVIRUS!!!™ with precisely the gravity it merits.

The Oregon Health Authority, offering a public service announcement for Halloween, featured two doctors dressed in costumes, with one dressed as a clown while she announced the daily death statistics and new cases of COVID-19 in the state.

Wearing a red tie, polka dot shirt, bright yellow pants, and a clown face made from makeup, senior health advisor and pediatrician Dr. Claire Poche stated:

Hello. I’m Dr. Claire Poche. I’m a general pediatrician and also a senior health advisor here at the Oregon Health Authority. I’m here with Shimi Sharief, my colleague, who’s also a senior health advisor, and we thought we’d start by giving you a quick update on where we are as a state with COVID-19. As of today, there have been 38,160 cases of COVID-19 in Oregon, with 390 new cases being reported today. Sadly, we are also reporting three deaths today, bringing the statewide total for COVID-19 related deaths to 608.

I know I said I was going to resist embedding any more Tweets from now on unless it was absolutely necessary, but I think we can all agree that in this instance, it most certainly is.

It’s not a good idea; it’s a fucking great idea. I mean, come on: even confirmed clown Lori Lightfoot will never top this.

Death never sleeps

The Reaper stalks Cadaver Joe.

While Joe Biden has been handling a light schedule of morning campaign stops and basement naps, his campaign bus has been driving throughout the southern US.

In Houston, one Trump supporter decided to troll the Biden team by driving a hilariously decked-out hearse behind the bus with MAGA-approved branding.

The majestic vehicle has some generic Trump 2020 decals, but it’s the other messages on this baby that takes it to that next level of trollery. Here are a few of them:

  • “Collecting Democrat votes one dead stiff at a time.”
  • “Dig ’em Deeper, Bury ’em Cheaper Funeral Parlor”

At every campaign stop Gropey’s Griftermobile makes, the hearse stops close by and sets up a display featuring an open casket—which ones imagines is beginning to look downright inviting to Cadaver Joe at this stage of his self-inflicted ordeal—along with a big sign admonishing, “Don’t forget 10% percent for the Big Guy.” According to the article, the Griftermobile has even resorted to blowing through redlights in a desperate attempt to ditch their tail, apparently with no joy so far.

Yes, there are pictures and video included, and they’re hilarious. But they’re embedded in Tweets, which I’m trying to stay away from posting as much as I possibly can from here on out, just on principle. Anyways.

The driver of the hearse indicated that local law enforcement had shown support for the hilarious display.

“Been getting thumbs up from all the cops around here,” said the man. “At least we know we got their support. Even though they can’t say nothing, they still support us.”

At the time of publishing, the Biden bus had reportedly pulled away from their campaign stop after no supporters showed up. The hearse team seemed to be in hot pursuit. We look forward to updating you on any further hilarious developments.

No wonder poor Gropey seems kinda jumpy and out of sorts of late. Or more so than usual, let’s say.

Black days

As you all know, as of yesterday all American women have been stripped of their sacred Right To Choose™ to have their unborn children dismembered in the womb, or to have the infant set aside to die of starvation while still moist from having still been in it immediately beforehand. Likewise, Women’s Health Care™ (another synonym for abortion, according to every dictionary in history, ever) is now a thing of the past also.

These precious rights and so many, many others—all precisely and explicitly enshrined in our precious US Constitution, although good luck finding anything resembling that in the actual text of that outdated, deeply flawed piece of shite—become now only the stuff of mist and memory with the illegitimate, illegal, and brazenly contra-Constitutional swearing in of the evil witch Amy Coney Barret to sit on the now-defunct and meaningless US Supreme Court, by none other than that shuckin’, jivin’, spear-chuckin’, watermelon-suckin’ moon-cricket himself, Uncle Tom “Clarence” Thomas.

As I was driving around for work earlier, I couldn’t help but notice the total absence of any females sharing the streets with me. Then, like a flash, the truth hit me: upon ACB’s swearing-in, all American women were doubtless taken into State custody; forcibly impregnated; swaddled in one of those silly red schmattas a la Handmaid’s Tale; and locked into some remote gulag to be held in durance vile for the duration of this national ordeal.

Most foresighted, judicious take on this darkest of all days? Gotta be the one elucidated by that reliably high-minded, never-hysterically-partisan statesman Chuck Schreecher:

At the end of this sordid chapter in the history of the Senate, in the history of the Supreme Court, my deepest and greatest sadness is for the American people. Generations yet unborn will suffer the consequences of this nomination.

Izzat right there, Chuckles? As in, “suffer the consequences” of being permitted to, y’know, ACTUALLY BE BORN INTO THIS WORLD?!? In contrast to being ripped to bloody bits, the victim of a last-ditch act of birth control?

You really, REALLY sure that’s the argument you want to be trying to make here, genius?

All sarcasm aside—okay, most of it, maybe—The Notorious ACB’s brief post-swearing-in statement was truly a thing of Constitutional Originalist beauty, for those dwindling few of us who fervently wish we had adhered to the thing properly rather than negligently allowing the Left to incrementally burn it down to ashes.

I have spent a good amount of time over the last month at the Senate; both in meetings with individual senators and in days of hearings before the Senate Judiciary Committee. The confirmation process has made ever-clearer to me one of the fundamental differences between the federal judiciary and the United States Senate, and perhaps the most acute is the role of policy preferences. It is the job of a senator to pursue her policy preferences; in fact, it would be a dereliction of duty to put policy goals aside.

By contrast, it is the job of a judge to resist her policy preferences.  It would be a dereliction of duty for her to give in to them. Federal judges don’t stand for election, thus they have no basis for claiming that their preferences reflect those of the people. This separation of duty from political preference is what makes the judiciary distinct among the three branches of government. A judge declares independence not only from Congress and the president, but also from the private beliefs that might otherwise move her. The judicial oath captures the essence of the judicial duty; the rule of law must always control.

My fellow Americans, even though we judges don’t face elections, we still work for you. It is your Constitution that establishes the rule of law and the judicial independence that is so central to it., The oath that I have solemnly taken tonight means at its core that I will do my job without any fear or favor and that I will do so independent of both the political branches and my own preferences. I love the Constitution and the democratic republic that it establishes, and I will devote myself to preserving it. Thank you.

ZOMG, no WONDER the Left simultaneously hates and fears this madwoman so desperately! She’s clearly a wild-eyed, fanatical, extremist zealot!!

Okay, okay, OKAY. /sarcasm. No, seriously, you guys. I mean it this time. Until I don’t.

There are more than just a couple of sweet, sweet aspects to this, aside from not only getting a third Trump appointment onto the Court but one who to initial appearances looks like being a thrice-worthy antidote to Chief Justice Roberts’ toxic stealth-liberalism.

For starters: the oath of office was indeed administered by the great Clarence Thomas, a gifted legal mind whose staunch Originalism has graced the Court and blessed the American people well beyond anyone’s fondest hopes. Thomas has grown into his exalted position with aplomb, having authored some of the most well reasoned, meticulously constructed, and logically unassailable opinions and dissents ever—opinions that stack up quite damned well, thanks, with any other Justice I can think of throughout our history.

Thomas now bestrides the US Supreme Court like an almighty Colossus, and rightly so too. The man is no less than one of the best we’ve ever had in the position, and we’re fortunate indeed to have him there. But there’s also another little matter to consider here: AJ Thomas was also the man whose horrifically sordid and disgraceful Senate hearings—a “high-tech lynching,” as he himself so aptly described it—marked the early phase of the Demonrats’ transformation of the advise-and-consent process into no more than a pornographic Ringling Bros & Barnum & Bailey circus act.

And guess who one of the marquee performers in the revolting, abusive 1991 ordeal Thomas stalwartly endured might have been? Who, in fact, was not only a participant in the shameful mess, but was actually the chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee at the time? Why, none other than ol’ Where-Am-I Biden, his own ever-despicable self.

But wait, it gets better yet. I’ll just let JJ do the honors.

Amy Coney Barrett was sworn in last night after being confirmed by a Harry Reid simple majority in the Senate. The swearing in of Justice Barrett to take the empty seat on the Supreme Court is filled with a number of metaphors as well as at least one deliciously ironic coincidence; yesterday was Hillary Clinton’s birthday. Just over four years ago, the now deceased predecessor of Justice Barrett, who was no spring chicken even then and a double cancer survivor was urged to step down so that Barack Obama could appoint her successor, one who would be equally anti-Constitutional. But no. She was determined to bitterly cling to that seat so that she could live to see her successor sworn in by Hillary, who was after all, a 100% lead pipe cinch to be the first female president (the jury is still out as to whether or not that was, in fact, Obama or James Buchanan). If you’re reading this post wherever you are, how did that work out for you?

No way to really know for sure, but I’m imagining a scenario along these lines: a large spit, rotating ever-so-slowly over one of Hell’s hotter fires, with Ol’ Scratch Himself rolling a TV over by RGB, so’s she has to watch the ACB swearing-in on an endless—or should I say eternal—loop while she’s charbroiling. I’m envisioning something very similar for HILLARY!™ on her arrival, too.

The Angry Man

It unclear to me who actually wrote this grand-slam piece, but I found it in tonight’s AOSHQ ONT.

For all the interest group pandering that shapes modern American politics, the group that may well have decided the election recently might have come down to the demographic of “The Angry Man.”

The Angry Man is difficult to stereotype. He comes from all economic backgrounds, from dirt-poor to filthy rich. He represents all geographic areas in America, from sophisticated urbanite to rural redneck, Deep South to Yankee North, Left Coast to Eastern Seaboard.

No matter where he’s from, Angry Men share many common traits; they aren’t asking for anything from anyone other than the promise to be able to make their own way on a level playing field. In many cases, they are independent businessmen and employ several people. They pay more than their share of taxes and they work very hard for what they have and intend to keep.

He’s used to picking up the tab, whether it’s the Christmas party for the employees at his company, three sets of braces, college educations or a beautiful wedding or two. Not because he was forced to, but because it’s the right thing to do.

The Angry Man believes the Constitution should be interpreted as it was written. It is not as a “living document” open to the whims and vagaries of appointed judges and political winds.

The Angry Man owns firearms, and he’s willing to pick up a gun and use it in defense of his home, his country and his family. He is willing to lay down his life to defend the freedom and safety of others, and the thought of killing someone if necessary to achieve those goals gives him only momentary pause.

The Angry Man is not, and never will be, a victim. Nobody like him drowned in Hurricane Katrina. He got his people together and got out. Then, he went back in to rescue those who needed help or were too stupid to help themselves in the first place. He was selfless in this, just as often a civilian as a police officer, a National Guard soldier or a volunteer firefighter. Victimhood syndrome buzzwords; “disenfranchised,” “marginalized” and “voiceless” don’t resonate with The Angry Man. “Press ‘one’ for English” is a curse-word to him.

His last name, his race and his religion don’t matter. His ancestry might be Italian, English, African, Polish, German, Slavic, Irish, Russian, Hispanic or any of a hundred others. What does matter is that he considers himself in every way to be an American. He is proud of this country and thinks that if you aren’t, you are whole-heartedly encouraged to find one that suits you and move there.

The Angry Man is usually a man’s man. The kind of guy who likes to play poker, watch football, go hunting, play golf, maintain his own vehicles and build things. He coaches kid’s baseball, soccer and football and doesn’t ask for a penny. He’s the kind of guy who can put an addition on his house with a couple of friends, drill an oil well, design a factory or work the land. He can fill a train with 100,000 tons of coal and get it to the power plant so that you can keep the lights on while never knowing everything it took to do that. The Angry Man is the backbone of this country.

He’s not racist, but is truly disappointed and annoyed, when people exhibit behavior that typifies the worst stereotypes of their ethnicity. He’s willing to give everybody a fair chance if they’re willing to work hard and play by the rules. He expects other people to do the same. Above all, he has integrity in everything he does.

The Angry Man votes, and he loathes the dysfunction now rampant in government. It’s the victim groups being pandered to and the “poor me” attitude that they represent. The inability of politicians to give a straight answer to an honest question. The tax dollars that are given to people who simply don’t want to do anything for themselves. The fact that, because of very real consequences, he must stay within a budget but for some obscure reason the government he finances doesn’t. Mostly, it’s the blatantly arrogant attitude displayed implying that we are too stupid to run our own lives and only people in government are smart enough to do that.

The Angry Man has reached his limit. When a social justice agitator goes on TV, leading some rally for Black Lives Matter, safe spaces or other such nonsense, he may bite his tongue but, he remembers. When a child gets charged with carrying a concealed weapon for mistakenly bringing a penknife to school, he takes note of who the local idiots are in education and law enforcement. But when government officials are repeatedly caught red-handed breaking the law and getting off scot-free, The Angry Man balls-up his fists and readies himself for the coming fight. He knows that this fight, will be a live or die situation, so he prepares fully. Make no mistake, this is a fight in which he is not willing to lose and he will never give up.

Obama calls him a Clinger.

Hillary calls him Deplorable.

Bill calls him Redneck.

Black lives Matter calls him Racist.

Feminists call him Sexist.

ISIS calls him an Infidel.

Donald Trump calls him an American.

Ultimately, that’s the real reason they hate Trump so much: because, unlike them, Trump doesn’t hate us.

Peace is breaking out all over

Remarkable.

Sudan will be removed from the State Sponsors of Terrorism list and will begin a partnership with the United States and Israel, President Donald Trump announced on Friday.

“HUGE win today for the United States and for peace in the world. Sudan has agreed to a peace and normalization agreement with Israel! With the United Arab Emirates and Bahrain, that’s THREE Arab countries to have done so in only a matter of weeks. More will follow!” he tweeted.

The agreement comes just weeks after Trump secured two other historic peace deals in the Middle East through the signing of The Abraham Accords with Bahrain and the United Arab Emirates, which established full diplomatic relations of the countries with Israel. These deals facilitated by the Trump Administration are meant to bring “stability, security, and prosperity” in the region.

“It is a new world,” Netanyahu said on the phone with reporters in the Oval Office. “We are cooperating with everyone. Building a better future for all of us.”

Trump also signaled his intent to continue negotiating deals with other Middle East countries, saying there are at least five others, including Saudi Arabia, that want in.

Not too shabby for a POTUS who has either been a disastrous failure or has accomplished nothing whatsoever in his first term, depending on which passel of idiots is talking at the moment. Scott Adams’s take puts that bushwa to bed:

It’s not so much that they didn’t need to; the Powers That Be types running the shitshow “debates” couldn’t include it. Against all expectations, Trump has done truly astounding things on the world stage. His deft, skillful efforts are literally making the world a better place. The Left/ NeverTrumpTard/Swamp coalition can’t afford to bring that sort of thing up; it’s the last thing in the world they want people to be talking about.

What a maroon!

Yes, I know I haven’t addressed last night’s “debate” yet, and now it’s almost too late to bother with it. I tried to strongarm myself into watching the damnable charade, I promise I did, but could only endure the first twenty minutes or so before my gag reflex had been so overstimulated by Biden’s relentless cavalcade of brazen lies that I had turn the TeeWee off before I puked on the bed. If that vicious cretin has ever spoken a true word in his life, it was by accident.

According to pretty much everybody, Trump totally waxed China Joe’s decrepit ass, but good. I won’t get into any of the gory details now, having missed the bus on that and all, but no way can I let this sidesplitting self-beclownment get by me. See, Trump made mention of “coyotes and cartels” smuggling children over the border. Then this happened:

Yeah, somebody here is a moron who should just “stop talking” for sure. But it ain’t Trump, darlin’. Pro tip: if you hear people speak of “mules” ferrying drugs across the border, they do NOT mean the four-legged, horse-like, ornery kind, mmkay?

Apparently, this supergenius is “a corporate attorney and state representative in Georgia who supports Joe Biden.” If so, it doesn’t say anything good about the Peach State’s current crop of attorneys and state representatives, nor about whether or not the state might be in good and capable administrative hands. But this mental giant is by no means alone in her stupefying nitwittery and her arrogance in ignorance; tragically, frighteningly, she has plenty of company.

Update! 96 minutes. 32 lies.

We noticed throughout that the provably false statement was a stock in trade for Biden. This is a man who has what comes off as a visceral contempt for the American people. He thinks we are gullible morons who can be told whatever he wants to tell us and we’ll believe it, and he’s been lying for so long that he doesn’t even have the ability to discern the truth anymore.

No less than 32 times did Biden say things which were patently, provably, obviously untrue. The Trump campaign catalogued them all and when we checked through the list we didn’t see any omissions.

So here were the 32, in around 48 minutes of talking. It wasn’t exactly a lie a minute, but it was pretty close.

Dishonest, arrogant, corrupt to the marrow, power-mad, manipulative, treacherous, and so many, many more unlovely things: Joe Biden is the living exemplar of everything wrong with American politics today.

“America’s real problems are urban problems”

Daniel Greenfield argues that we must kill the cities, before they kill America.

The American city has failed. The coronavirus lockdowns and the Black Lives Matter race riots haven’t revealed a new reality, but the old truths under the glossy branding and hipster cafes. The underlying failure of the city isn’t social, it’s economic. Urban areas parted ways from the basis for their existence generations ago. Cities don’t exist because we need them, or because they’re more efficient ways of bringing workers and businesses together. They’re relics of economic empires that have collapsed leaving behind beautiful architecture and urban decay.

Major cities only productively employ a fraction of their residents, and most of their better jobs in both the private and public sectors are filled by workers who don’t live there. But the limited culture, medical, financial and tech industries that do thrive there produce a lot of money and even more influence. The difference between the perception of a failed city and a successful one is bringing in a few companies with a national brand and a global footprint. A city with a few major publishing firms, financial companies, or dot coms is seen as a success even if these narrow sectors have little to do with the majority of the millions of people who actually live there.

Urbanization has become a pyramid scheme taking over entire states, while hollowing out the more conservative rural areas, turning red states blue, and leaving everyone except those at the top of the pyramid scheme poorer with each generation.

America doesn’t need an expanding population. Urban political machines do. Nor do we need massive urban density that no longer occurs because of the density of opportunities, but just the opposite, the density of failure and the real estate bubbles that are fueled by urban crises.

There is no shortage of cheap labor in America. We don’t need more of it. Every major city is already choking on the unemployed cheap labor forces they have. And unless we have a massive manufacturing boom, the only employment opportunities for them are in the gig economy where they can deliver pad thai and give rides to environmental consultants.

The urban model hasn’t worked for America in sixty years. The pandemic has put it on the verge of collapse as the wealthy industries that made cities their base flee into virtual workspaces. It’s time to rethink and defund cities as the hubs of our economy and our nation.

Just another characteristically brilliant and well-written Greenfield piece, who I haven’t been looking in on nearly as often as I should of late.
