Steps along the road to ruin

Step by step, inch by inch.

Communism needs a healthy host, a prosperous one that can support the first years of communism, preferably one where communist agents can be voted into office with messages of socialism. This is what makes a democratic republic with a capitalist system the most susceptible to communist propaganda. Socialism is the stepping stone, the softer version that cooperates with capitalism to keep the economy strong, but it is how a capitalist system transitions to communism.

The role of socialism is to engage the citizens of a successful and wealthy capitalist system. From their wealth and leisure, those who have benefited from capitalism are confronted with its failures in exaggerated form. The plight of a single person living in poverty is magnified to represent an entire class of people “left out” and “downtrodden” with the recipient of the message having no possible understanding of those terms. It seems wrong that they are wealthy and others are poor, but the rules are the same for everyone and no one can protect someone from themselves or their decisions. Socialism takes advantage of these poor decisions and the self-inflicted victims of them to institute social programs that can never succeed except for a few propaganda examples, because they cannot change human nature and that is the true cause of the disadvantaged. The purpose is to create more social programs, more government, more government employees working continually toward the ideal of communism, which is universal employment by the government that equals total control of the population.

The question never asked is: “How will communism avoid the same failures?” The truth is, they can’t and don’t intend to. It is a selling point, not an objective. But, they will control the information about those failures and they will not cease to exist, but cease to be reported.

Gee, none of THAT sounds familiar at all, now does it?

Found this ‘un via e-mail tip from TL Davis, for which I thank him. At a cursory glance it appears to be a quite new blog, but I’m gonna go ahead and throw 12 Round into Ye Olde Blogrolle and my bookmarks anyway, on the expectation of more good work to come.

A (doggie) breath of fresh air

Your Saturday night feel-gooder.

Our four-legged companions care not a whit for the pretensions, protocols, and self-important affectations of us Hoomins—a sign of their superior wisdom and just plain good sense. Had Higgens reacted in any fashion other than the way he did, he shoulda been shot. At the very least, the dog should have been taken away from him and placed with someone who appreciates them, and understands how to properly treat them. Good on the guy for handling things correctly.

How golf became FASCINATING

Never cared a thing about the game, neither playing nor watching, although the same uncle who taught me to play guitar was a complete fanatic. Strangely, though, I suddenly find my interest…piqued, shall we say.

Golfer Paige Spiranac, 26, reveals she has been accused of ‘ruining the sport’ by flaunting her CLEAVAGE in low-cut tank tops – and complains that she is treated like an outsider for being ‘real’

Oh, she’s real, all right. And spectacular.

American golfer Paige Spiranac says she has been accused of ‘ruining the game’ because she wears low-cut tank tops that show off her cleavage.

The 26-year-old has 2.2 million Instagram followers and also hosts the Playing A Round Podcast, and in a recent episode she complained about how she is treated because of the way she looks and dresses.

‘I wear a tank top and I’m the s’** and I’m the w**** and I’m the one that’s ruining the game,’ she said.

It’s not that her outfit choices have stopped her from playing. Paige played at the University of Arizona and San Diego State University, and even won All-Mountain West Conference honors during two seasons.

She’s also relayed her success and social media following into sponsorship deals.

But it’s cost her in other ways. She said that recently, she wanted to help out with a charity that gave kids free golf clubs but was turned down.

Why, the dirty bastards. Here’s what the bluenoses are all aghast at:

Lest anybody assume this awesomely well-put-together exemplar of feminine pulchritude is all looks and no talent, just check this vid, wherein she demonstrates some mad club-wielding skillz in her own, uhhh, distinctive fashion:

Awright, awright, I admit it: I was perhaps a wee mite more captivated by the mad fun-bag-juggling skills also displayed therein.

All kidding around aside, God has seen fit to bless this young woman bounteously indeed: she has extraordinary good looks and athletic ability, and seems to be personable, self-assured, and generally well-adjusted to boot. Her physical gifts may make her a poor fit for the staid, conservative climes of professional golf, but if the USLPG Powers That Be could loosen up a bit, seems to me they just might find themselves sitting atop a real PR goldmine with Paige.

Hats off to Ace, bless his heart, for one helluva find.

New read!

Our highly esteemed boozum chum Francis, a truly gifted writer as you’re all surely aware by now, would like everyone to know that he has a new one out:

More a fantasy tome than straight-up sci-fi, I’m thinking, if the cover and blurb are at all indicative:

Gregor of Serebal, a journeyman sorcerer educated at the Scholium Arcanum in the East, is on a cross-continent trek through the Great Waste: the lifeless desert left by the Dieback that all but eliminated life from Aeol. He has been tasked to chart the courses of the major mana conduits of the continent. In the process he discovers that they have been diverted from their normal paths: Whereas they once flowed from north to south, they now flow from east to west. While there is no obvious explanation for their diversion, they appear to flow directly toward Pontreval, where the Scholium Arcanum in the West is situated.

Laella of Anam is a gifted one: a potential sorcerer not yet trained to the disciplines that would make it safe to practice. Yet the mana has already touched her to ill effect. It has made her a virgin mother, to the horror of her family and neighbors. The ruler of her village has executed her infant son, and the infant children of three other women similarly afflicted, when Gregor arrives in Anam.

Mutual admiration brings them together. Once mated, they travel further west through the Great Waste in pursuit of Gregor’s errand. But though his intent was to walk all the way across the continent, charting the mana streams as he traveled, events will force them to return to Urel, the site of the Scholium Arcanum in the East where Gregor was made an initiate of the Arcana. There he and Laella will confront mysteries the sorcerers of the Scholium cannot unravel. Beneath those mysteries lies a threat to the life of Aeol that will demand all that Gregor, Laella, and their colleagues have to give.

Fantasy or sci-fi, doesn’t matter; with Porretto, any and all genres are in most capable hands. The tariff is but a paltry 2.99 at Amazon, peoples, so hie thee thither. He also has a mention up over at his joint, which opens thusly:

Here it is at last: the long awaited fantasy novel by the foremost storyteller of our time…

(What’s that you say? I’m not the foremost storyteller of our time? Geez, what a letdown! Could you keep it to yourself until I sell a few books? Thanks.)

Heh. Pas de sweat, Fran, we’ll keep it strictly on the down-low over here.

Pussified snowflakes triggered, piddle themselves in fwight

Too, too funny.

Colorado Congressman Ken Buck wanted to have a little fun and made a 2nd amendment video using a gun he mounts on his wall.

“I have just one message for Joe Biden and Beto O’Rourke, if you want to take everyone’s AR-15s, why don’t you swing by my office in Washington, D.C. and start with this one? Come and take it. #2A,” he said.

Enter Congresswoman Haley Stevens who apparently felt “threatened” and called the Sergeant at arms on the guy.

“Your congressional office is not your private home. It is a public space. This behavior is threatening and unacceptable,” Haley wrote.

“I feel unsafe with this in my place of work. I have been in contact with the Sergeant at Arms to express my concerns,” she added and she was serious.

Beto O’Rourke decided to join in, and responded to Stevens’ post with his own message on Twitter.

“This guy makes the case for both an assault weapons ban and a mandatory buyback program better than I ever could. These are weapons of war that have no place in our communities, in our politics or in our public discourse,” he commented.

The wall ornament has been rendered entirely nonfunctional; the bolt has been removed, and even at that sports a trigger lock too, for some reason. In other words, the thing is as harmless as newborn kittens, unless maybe you snatched it off its hanger and used it as a club or threw it at somebody or something. Dana Loesch offers another damning detail before kicking Blotto’s ass up between his shoulder blades over that “weapons of war” horseshit:

Buck’s inoperable rifle has hung  on his office wall since 2015 without incident — ever since the Capitol Police inspected it and gave him the all clear to hang it.

Oh for crying out loud. These aren’t “weapons of war” anymore than my .38 revolver is a “weapon of war” or a bolt action rifle is a “weapon of war.” Buck and his inoperable, wall-mounted firearm have threatened fewer people than O’Rourke drunk-driving his automobile down the highway, but you don’t see O’Rourke calling for “common sense automobile ownership.” Also — there is no such thing as a “mandatory buyback.” That phrase is BS for “stealing people’s lawfully-owned personal property and paying them off with their own tax dollars,” a.k.a. double thievery.

“Weapon of war”? Hell, Buck’s decorative installation isn’t a weapon at all, in any meaningful sense. It’s a statement is what it is—no more, no less. Admittedly, it should come as no surprise that cringing cunt-farts like Blotto, Stevens, and the rest of their pig-ignorant, cowardly gun-grabber compadres are crapping themselves over its mere presence despite its status as wall art. But it may well be that the idea of anybody freely making “statements” like Buck’s frightens them much, much more.

Lessons from The Hunt For Red October

There’s way more than just one or two.

Thirty years ago this month, “The Hunt For Red October” was released in the United States. The film is important because it taught my generation a truth known well by our parents and our grandparents: It is virtually impossible to screw up a submarine movie.

Is it heightened drama born of salty submariners jammed into the confined space of control rooms “rigged for red”? The simultaneous dangers of fire and water, burning and drowning, explosion and implosion? The terrifying suspense of depth-charge attacks? Yes, yes and yes!

But the genre’s advantages alone cannot explain the staying power of “The Hunt For Red October”. The truth is, the movie taught Generation X, my generation, so much more. As befits a submarine movie, we must go deeper when considering what makes the film so special, even after 30 years.

Kerrigan dives deep (a-HEHN!) into this truly classic flick with a quick plot recap, enthusiastic critiques of various technical aspects of the film, and such-like. But for me the most important Red October takeaway, especially in these parlous times, will always be this:

Words to remember.

I don’t want to live in a world without a Weinermobile in it

I swear, folks, I have this nagging recollection of having seen a most disturbing story someplace or other claiming that Oscar Mayer was doing away with its fabled fleet of Weinermobiles. Naturally, I was aghast at the grievous blow to classic Americana such a cancellation would represent. Worse still, though, is that in today’s PC nightmare it isn’t at all hard to imagine it happening. I’m quite sure that the “waste and excess” of it; the damage to Gaia from CO2 emissions and fossil-fuel usage; the safety hazards created by having these large, unwieldy vehicles lumbering across the nation, etc etc etc have made for some real headaches for Oscar Mayer in recent years.

The steady stream of protests, whining, and threats of violence doubtless endured by the fine folks at Oscar Mayer for this horrid display of callousness, reckless disregard, and bad stewardship would no doubt make deciding to just say to hell with it pretty much a no-brainer for at least some of the OM suits. Thankfully, however, I looked around some and could find no confirmation of my admittedly vague memory, nor even a hint of such. Eventually I ended up stubling across the very font of all things Weinermobile: Oscar Mayer’s own Weinermobile website, which is a laff riot. That happy sojourn led to further wanderings, which wound up providing all the excuse I’ll ever need to commend y’all’s attention to this treasure trove of fun facts. A sampling:

1940 Wienermobile:
The 1940’s Wienermobile was a bit smaller than the 1930’s model and featured a small pod on top for the driver as well as a hatch at the very rear for the ‘world’s tiniest chef’ to poke out of.

Wienermobile Specifications, 1940:
Builder: General Body Company of Chicago, Illinois

Cost: $5,000

Bells and Whistles: 13 feet of metal in the shape of an Oscar Mayer Wiener, open cockpits in center and rear of vehicle

Yes, of COURSE they have pictures. But alas, all is not perpetual sunshine and lightness of heart; even in Weinerville, trouble can rear its ugly head now and then.

Oscar Mayer Wienermobile pulled over for being a road hog
The Wienermobile just got a good grilling — from cops.

The famous Oscar Mayer marketing vehicle was stopped Sunday for hot-dogging on a road in Wisconsin, deputies in Waukesha County said.

The department seemed to relish the bust in a Facebook post.

“What really happened on that fateful day with the Oscar Mayer Wienermobile?” the Waukesha County Sheriff’s Department said Monday. “The driver of the #Wienermobile was stopped and given a verbal warning by a Waukesha County Sheriff’s Deputy for not following the Move Over Law.”

The law requires drivers to move over a lane if they see emergency vehicles on the side of the road with their lights on — and the rule applies even to the operators of Wienermobiles.

God bless the Weinermobile, I say. May it grace our cultural landscape forever, to go on roaming America’s great highways and byways to bring a smile, a laugh, or simply a quick, delicious lunch to all people of good will everywhere.

Ain’t skeered

Schlichter’s title contains an unfounded assumption. But other than that, he nails it.

The D.C. establishment and their media rump-kissers went into a full-on spazz mode when President Trump continued his unbroken streak of awesomeness by appointing Ric Grenell the acting Director of National Intelligence, thereby threatening the intelligence community’s unbroken streak of failure. None of our media idiot savants – a term which is only half-accurate – thought to ponder the question of exactly how Ric’s appointment could possibly make the IC worse. Its legacy of ashes is a national embarrassment. But then, the purpose of the currently-constituted intelligence community, the foreign policy community, and every wing of our incompetent, inept, and corrupt establishment is not to serve the people of the United States. Its purpose is to serve the personal interests of the currently-constituted intelligence community, the foreign policy community, and every wing of our incompetent, inept, and corrupt establishment.

Dead on the money so far. But then:

Its denizens fear that this fearless patriot is going to burn down their whole shoddy edifice, and we can only hope they’re right.

Flick that Bic, Ric.

We can hope so, yeah. No real harm in keeping a positive attitude, right?

On the other hand, when has anybody seen any evidence of fear on their part, really? I haven’t. Anger? Yeah. Narcissism? Sure. Assumptions of superiority and entitlement? Absolutely. Vengefulness, pettiness and spite, a strong determination to fight in defense of their presumptive turf? Yep, yep, yep, and damned skippy.

So what real evidence can be cited in support of Kurt’s contention that they’re afraid, they’re very afraid? Or even that they should be? Yes, the Deep State establishment is shrieking, all right. Along with the rest of their ideological confreres on the Left, when are they not? They’ve been shrieking about absolutely everything Trump has done or attempted to do since November 2016, even before. In the case of FedGovCo specifically, however, I do NOT take the anguished caterwauling as evidence Deep State termites are actually afraid of anything. I think of it more along the lines of battlespace prep. Or psyops, maybe.

Kurt goes on from there to laud Grennel for previous accomplishments and overall attitude, and rightly so. Grennel’s appointment bodes well for several reasons. And this bodes even better:

Today, we’re hearing that Kash Patel, a National Security Council staffer and former aide to Devin Nunes, has been tapped as a senior advisor to Grenell. Patel has also been a loyal ally to the President and to Republicans. Patel wrote the famous February 2018 “Nunes memo,” a document which alleged that the FBI used the phony Steele dossier as the basis of their application to obtain a Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA) warrant to spy on Trump campaign advisor Carter Page. In his December 2019 report, Intelligence Community Inspector General Michael Horowitz confirmed the accuracy of the entire document.

The importance of having two loyal and like-minded Trump allies in place at the helm of the DNI cannot be overstated.

CBS News’ Catherine Herridge reported that Grenell has been given a mandate which is to “#cleanhouse including a “top to bottom” review of DNI operations.”

This is good news indeed. It appears that President Trump is starting the clean sweep of the government agencies he hadn’t known was so crucial early on.

It’s good news right enough, and I’m glad to see it. Nonetheless, where Kurt sees a glass at least half-full here, I can’t help but also see…well, this:

Three separate stories converged to drive home the obvious truth that America has a two-tiered justice system: the Justice Department’s decision to not indict the guilty-as-sin plotter Andrew McCabe, the attempt to give Roger Stone an outrageous jail sentence, and the Army’s decision to shrug that one of its officers attempted to orchestrate the removal of his commander-in-chief.

There are a couple of simple reasons for this. The most obvious reason is that the entire federal bureaucracy is one giant Democrat machine. This cannot be repeated enough. Nearly every member of almost every single department is a Democrat.

How bad is it? Back in 2016, 95 percent of campaign contributions for the presidential race went to Her Royal Awfulness. The Justice Department overachieved, coming in at 97 percent.

Liberal scolds are always lecturing Americans on how they are racist, imperialist, misogynistic, homophobic monsters, even if they don’t know it due to implicit bias. This is nonsense. But it is curious that these same fools see no problem with implicit bias when the entire government-media-academia complex is one giant exercise in leftist groupthink.

Daniels is talking about the DoJ here, but it’s still relevant; if anything, the IC is even worse. And, as he later cautions, “Identifying the problem is far simpler than coming up with practical solutions.”

It’s as I’ve said all along: a single President is never going to be able to force the Shadow Government genie back into its bottle; no, not even Trump, not even with two terms. The nation has been lured, tugged, and/or dragged—according to which MO seemed most practical or effective at the time—consistently Leftward for nigh on a century now, with a strident, near-continuous effort beginning in the 60s. Anyone seriously thinking that all this might be corrected in a scant eight years, by just one man, isn’t really thinking. He’s dreaming.

Your feel-good video of the day

Don’t thank me, thank Ace.

Some MLB team with a weak pitching rotation ought to track that hurler down and sign his ass up. That’s one HELL of a beanball.

Epstein didn’t kill himself update! Okay, have another feel-gooder.

For the record, let me just get this one out there in advance: neither did Weinstein.

Smackdown!

No, as with all the others, I didn’t watch the latest Democrat-Socialist shitshow debacle debate either. Nor will I be watching any future ones; I can’t imagine any of the current line-up of power-crazed commie cretins ever uttering a single syllable I’d be the least bit interested in paying attention to. Life is just too short.

That said, however…

A fiery end to what had already been a contentious Democratic primary debate, which included the billionaire businessman for the first time, was sparked by NBC anchor Lester Holt’s question to Sanders about two-thirds of voters being “uncomfortable with a socialist candidate for president.”

After seeming to question the poll’s results by pointing out his frontrunner status for the Democratic nomination, Sanders called Bloomberg’s earlier use of the word “communism” a “cheap shot,” contending his policies were more akin to “what goes on in countries like Denmark.”

After Sanders criticized “tax breaks and subsidies” for the rich, Bloomberg interjected: “What a wonderful country we have. The best known socialist in the country happens to be a millionaire with three houses. What did I miss here?”

What I missed myself was how an incompetent loser who never did a day’s honest work at a useful job his entire life scraped up the scratch to provide himself with three—count ’em, (3)—palatial mansions. Evidently, it’s so easy to take rich from a lifetime spent idling around as a (ahem) “public servant,” even a hapless stumblebum like Red Bernie can pull it off. Which, y’know, is saying something.

“Well, you missed that I work in Washington, house one,” Sanders responded defensively.

“That’s the first problem,” Bloomberg said.

Annnnd ZING! again.

“Live in Burlington [Vermont], house two,” Sanders said. “And like thousands of other Vermonters, I do have a summer camp. Forgive me for that. Where is your home? Which tax haven …”

“New York City, thank you very much,” Bloomberg responded.

Heh. Red Bernie’s reaction? Priceless.

BernieBustsAVein.tiff

So, final tally, then: three (3) solid haymakers landed by L’il Mike The Banning Bantam, a zippo-palooza for Bernie The Bugeyed Bolshevik. Note the deep purplish tint to that sweaty, wafer-thin skin as ol’ Bernie nearly busts a blood vessel in spluttering rage over having been so handily nailed to the cross by L’il Mike—his vanity deflated, his self-righteousness skewered, his grubby socialist hypocrisy exposed for all the world to see and be revolted by.

He’ll still win the nomination, of course, unless the Democrat-Socialists can scheme out a way to screw him out of it again without being too obvious about it. Much as I do hate to have to point this out, the sad truth is he’s probably the only candidate they have with even a prayer of defeating Trump. Horrible as Red Bernie is, tragically great numbers of ignorant, brainwashed Amerikan youth would gladly slide bareassed down the edge of a giant razor blade and into a vat of rubbing alcohol to cast a vote for him. Plenty of others too, perhaps even enough. Don’t kid yourself that it couldn’t happen, folks. Because it could.

But that’s a discussion for another day and another post. Howsomever, lavishing kudos on the L’il Tyrant for making a fool of as foolish a self-made fool as Red Bernie might be dismissed by some as damning with faint praise, and rightly so. It’s just too easy, what folks around here used to joke about as “doing the light work”—a thing anyone can do without breaking a sweat, certainly nothing to strut around bragging about. I do not care; I enjoyed reading about it anyway, although I’m also happy I didn’t waste an evening enduring the torment that led up to it. Good show there, Shorty.

Not unusual update! David Brooks misses by a mile.

Brooks: Democrats Lack the Ability ‘To Go After a Socialist’

They don’t lack the ability, David; they lack the desire.

Delusions and conceits, shattered

This is such a thoroughly refreshing change from the usual blibbering lunacy force-fed to us at every turn, I’m just gonna have to excerpt at quite some length.

In a powerful commentary in the Feb. 3 edition of The Wall Street Journal, biologists Colin Wright and Emma Hilton explain that, scientifically, there are only two sexes, male and female, and there is no sex “spectrum.” They also stress that “biologists and medical professionals” must stop being politically correct and “stand up for the empirical reality of biological sex.”

With the phenomenon of some men saying they “identify” as women and some women saying they “identify” as men, or any “gender identity” combination therein, “we see a dangerous and anti-scientific trend toward the outright denial of biological sex,” state the biologists Wright and Hilton.

This notion that there is a sex “spectrum,” where people can choose “to identify as male or female,” regardless of their anatomy, is irrational and has “no basis in reality,” say the biologists. “It is false at every conceivable scale of resolution.”

As they explain, “In humans, as in most animals or plants, an organism’s biological sex corresponds to one of two distinct types of reproductive anatomy that develop for the production of small or large sex cells—sperm and eggs, respectively—and associated biological functions in sexual reproduction.”

“In humans, reproductive anatomy is unambiguously male or female at birth more than 99.98% of the time,” they write. “The evolutionary function of these two anatomies is to aid in reproduction via the fusion of sperm and ova.”

“No third type of sex cell exists in humans, and therefore there is no sex “spectrum” or additional sexes beyond male and female,” state the biologists. “Sex is binary.”

Furthermore, “the existence of only two sexes does not mean sex is never ambiguous,” write Hilton and Wright.  “But intersex individuals are extremely rare, and they are neither a third sex nor proof that sex is a ‘spectrum’ or a ‘social construct.'”

The fact that it IS such a refreshing change—that such a self-evident truth even needs to be said at all; worse, that openly doing so in today’s stultified atmosphere feels like an act of heroic daring—is a dismal marker of how successful the Marxist campaign to disrupt and weaken American culture via undermining our understanding of reality itself has been.

Cautionary note to any shitlib who has wandered in here by mistake and now might want to argue that these guys are just your typical Reich-wing fascist H8RRRZ!! pimping the usual revanchist falsehoods, with nary a tolerant liberal bone in their bodies: better think again. I’ll kindly boldface the dispositive parts to make it easier for ya. You can thank me later.

According to Wright and Hilton,  denying the “reality of biological sex” in favor of subjective “gender identity” raises “serious human-rights concerns for vulnerable groups including women, homosexuals and children.”

Women have fought hard for sex-based legal protections. Female-only spaces are necessary due to the pervasive threat of male violence and sexual assault. Separate sporting categories are also necessary to ensure that women and girls don’t have to face competitors who have acquired the irreversible performance-enhancing effects conferred by male puberty. The different reproductive roles of males and females require laws to safeguard women from discrimination in the workplace and elsewhere. The falsehood that sex is rooted in subjective identity instead of objective biology renders all these sex-based rights impossible to enforce.

Denying biological sex also “erases homosexuality” since “same-sex attraction is meaningless without the distinction between the sexes.”

Many activists now define homosexuality as attraction to the “same gender identity” rather than the same sex. This view is at odds with the scientific understanding of human sexuality. Lesbians have been denounced as “bigots” for expressing a reluctance to date men who identify as women. The successful normalization of homosexuality could be undermined by miring it in an untenable ideology.

See what I mean? Scientists whose views include a willingness to condemn the self-serving irrationality spewed by strident “transgender” lunatics openly…yet in the next breath mechanically regurgitate tired liberal shibboleths asserting that the threat of “male violence and sexual assault” is “pervasive,” rather than an aberration affecting only a statistical handful of psychologically disordered and dysfunctional men, tendencies which are condemned by the overwhelming majority; who offer unquestioning support for purported “sex-based rights” that are actually special privileges and status—ie, a pernicious form of sexual discrimination based on prejudiced assumptions; and who fret over the possibility of calling into question the “successful normalization of homosexuality,” which they obviously take to be an unassailable boon to society, rather than the bestowing of yet more special privileges and accomodations they have slowly evolved into; such views are NOT indications of any sort of “Reich-wing” extremism, mmmmkay?

Which just means that biological reality remains difficult for even liberal-leaning scientists to deny, or a couple of them anyway. Nice to know that even now, political correctness only carries some of us so far along the path to inanity and tail-biting irrationality.

In defense of Trump’s Tweeting

Looks like I’m no longer the Lone Ranger on this.

(U.S. Ambassador to Germany Richard) Grenell said, “It makes my job so much easier. We as diplomats have to be at the forefront of trying to solve problems. You don’t want to have a war. You want to avoid war, which means diplomats need to be able to talk. If you want to really solve problems, you better have diplomats who are really tough, diplomats who know how to push and know how to cajole. Because the alternative is to transfer the file over to the DOD. So, I like having a president who’s willing to be very tough. Look, we can also talk about whether or not the style of the president works. I think $400 billion in new defense promises for NATO members is one surefire way to point to the fact that the president’s style has worked.”

Well, yeah. For some, style trumps results; for some, the other way ’round. And then there are those of us who realize that, quite often, the style is what gets results. It’s certainly so in Trump’s case; his brashness, his bluntness, his cantankerousness are in no way obstacles or handicaps. They’re the very legs on which the race is run…and won.

New low for NRO

Brutal.

National Review’s Troll-in-Chief, Kevin Williamson, is calling for Roger Stone to be thrown in prison for 50 years, which is a literal death sentence for the 67-year-old.

This is just pathetic. Not just the desperate and trollish cry for desperate and trollish clicks, but to be so bitter, neurotic, and small you publicly and shamelessly call for someone to die in prison because of his political beliefs.

You see, National Review has principles, and those principles demand a 67-year-old, nonviolent, first-time offender gets 50 years in prison for 1) lying to Congress, something Deep Staters like James Clapper have done without so much as a reprimand, 2) tampering with a witness who says he was not really tampered with, and 3) impeding a congressional investigation into a hoax.

Muh principles!

Muh principles!

Muh principles!

Except…

I just completed a good faith search at National Review for those muh principles to be applied to James A. Wolfe (Deep State boll weevil sentenced to all of eight weeks in prison for the exact same offense they want Stone to do 7-9 years of hard time for committing—M), and I came up with, well, bupkis.

…Yesterday, I wrote at length about the Roger Stone case, about the brazen injustice of the four corrupt prosecutors who thankfully resigned. But because I at least put some effort into being principled, I made it clear that I do believe Stone does deserve some prison time. Not the seven to nine years demanded by those corrupt prosecutors, but some time.

Also, and you can Google this, I never wrote a word demanding Wolfe receive more prison time than eight weeks. In fact, I said nothing about Wolfe’s sentence.

You know why…?

Because for all my flaws, I am not some angry, partisan, sore-losing goddamned monster out to see people annihilated, especially by way of government power, and that includes scumbags like Wolfe.

Phew! Somebody open a window so’s the smoke rolling off of Williamson’s and NRO’s crispy carcasses can clear out, willya?

Sorta related: I sure did hate to see David Harsanyi abandon his old haunts at The Federalist to crawl into the fetid NRO sewer. No doubt he had reasons for making the move that seemed good enough to him, if to no one else; maybe he fancies himself the lone voice of sanity among the NeverTrump Bedlamites, the sole hope for elevating the discourse at that dump above the level of fake-conservative “Orange Man Bad!” blibbering currently extant there. Harsanyi was always a personal favorite of mine, and I do miss reading him. But he’s now removed himself from my radar completely, and like I said, I hate it.

Shut up, he explained

Another complaint about Trump’s Tweeting.

In a surprising rebuke Thursday, Attorney General William Barr criticized President Donald Trump’s tweets about Roger Stone’s case and other Justice Department matters.

“I think it’s time to stop the tweeting about Department of Justice criminal cases,” Barr told ABC News’ Pierre Thomas in an interview.

Trump on Tuesday blasted federal prosecutors’ recommendation that Stone serve up to nine years in prison for a conviction that stemmed from a case that started under the special counsel.

I doubt Barr is gonna get very far with that one, although I must also say I can somewhat understand his concern. As supportive as I’ve been all along of Trump’s deft, canny use of Twitter, Barr could have a point.

In essence Bill Barr is working to emphasize there’s no undue influence, and also emphasize the appearance of no undue influence. The problem, however, is that the media will create the impression of influence even if, and despite the reality of, no Trump influence.

Nothing Bill Barr does and/or says will stop the media from falsely creating a narrative that says President Trump and Bill Barr are colluding to target their political opposition.

With that reality in mind, the answers in the ABC interview as delivered by Bill Barr only pour fire on a furnace of media intent to controversialize President Trump’s communication approach.

Barr’s intention may have been good (albeit selfish), but declaring that President Trump’s free speech and opinion as an impediment to Barr’s ability is just nonsense.

Yep, pretty much. Ultimately, though, there’s a solution to Barr’s dilemma, one which is simplicity itself:

Comments policy

NOTE: In order to comment, you must be registered and approved as a CF user. Since so many user-registrations are attempted by spam-bots for their own nefarious purposes, YOUR REGISTRATION MAY BE ERRONEOUSLY DENIED.

If you are in fact a legit hooman bean desirous of registering yourself a CF user name so as to be able to comment only to find yourself caught up as collateral damage in one of my irregularly (un)scheduled sweeps for hinky registration attempts, please shoot me a kite at the email addy over in the right sidebar and let me know so’s I can get ya fixed up manually.

ALSO NOTE: You MUST use a valid, legit email address in order to successfully register, the new anti-spam software I installed last night requires it. My thanks to Barry for all his help sorting this mess out last night.

Comments appear entirely at the whim of the guy who pays the bills for this site and may be deleted, ridiculed, maliciously edited for purposes of mockery, or otherwise pissed over as he in his capricious fancy sees fit. The CF comments section is pretty free-form and rough and tumble; tolerance level for rowdiness and misbehavior is fairly high here, but is NOT without limit.

Management is under no obligation whatever to allow the comments section to be taken over and ruined by trolls, Leftists, and/or other oxygen thieves, and will take any measures deemed necessary to prevent such. Conduct yourself with the merest modicum of decorum, courtesy, and respect and you'll be fine. Pick pointless squabbles with other commenters, fling provocative personal insults, issue threats, or annoy the host (me) and...you won't.

Should you find yourself sanctioned after running afoul of the CF comments policy as stated and feel you have been wronged, please download and complete the Butthurt Report form below in quadruplicate; retain one copy for your personal records and send the others to the email address posted in the right sidebar.

Please refrain from whining, sniveling, and/or bursting into tears and waving your chubby fists around in frustrated rage, lest you suffer an aneurysm or stroke unnecessarily. Your completed form will be reviewed and your complaint addressed whenever management feels like getting around to it. Thank you.

"I predict that the Bush administration will be seen by freedom-wishing Americans a generation or two hence as the hinge on the cell door locking up our freedom. When my children are my age, they will not be free in any recognizably traditional American meaning of the word. I’d tell them to emigrate, but there’s nowhere left to go. I am left with nauseating near-conviction that I am a member of the last generation in the history of the world that is minimally truly free."

"If the laws of God and men, are therefore of no effect, when the magistracy is left at liberty to break them; and if the lusts of those who are too strong for the tribunals of justice, cannot be otherwise restrained than by sedition, tumults and war, those seditions, tumults and wars, are justified by the laws of God and man."
