The antidote

For that last post of mine, more or less.

Whitlock: My letter to ‘Breaking Bad’ star Bryan Cranston
Dear Bryan Cranston:

My childhood was great. We lived in the ghetto. Hope and joy filled the tiny apartment I shared with my brother and mother after my parents divorced.

High school was even better. I captained a nationally ranked, undefeated football team. My senior year, I shared a one-bedroom, 400-square-foot apartment with my dad.

I earned a football scholarship to Ball State University. The five years spent on campus comprise many of my fondest memories. I would do those five years over and over again until eternity.

The two decades I spent as a newspaper journalist in Bloomington, Indiana; Rock Hill, South Carolina; Ann Arbor, Michigan; and Kansas City, Missouri, were tremendous. I started at the bottom, working part-time for $5 an hour, and became one of the most successful sports writers of my era.

America was great for me from 1967 until about 2012.

I’m 55 years old. When I hear former President Donald Trump and his supporters say “make America great again,” I don’t interpret that nostalgia as subtle or overt racism. I hear it as a call for a return to sanity, a return to a time when America at least pretended to judge man by the content of his character.

Bryan, I saw some of your interview with CNN’s Chris Wallace, the exchange where you claimed the slogan “Make America Great Again” is some sort of bigoted dog whistle.

You said, “When I see ‘Make America Great Again,’ my comment is, ‘Do you accept that that could possibly be construed as a racist remark?’”

Chris Wallace should have stopped you right there. Only someone on a 24/7/365 hunt for racism would hear that slogan and think it’s racist in nature. Bill Clinton said the exact same thing in 1991 when he launched his bid to win the White House. Clinton is fondly referred to as the “first black president.”

Clinton was not and is not black. He’s a stereotypical politician, a man unafraid to distort reality for his own benefit. To you, once Trump adopted the slogan, MAGA became a Confederacy code word.

I still have trouble figuring out just what it is about the idea expressed by “Make America Great Again” that shitlibs find so very offensive.

Nah, just kiddin’. It’s all too obvious. Read the rest of it, folks, it’s damned good stuff for sure.

Trump the Comforter

A stark contrast with the Biden Affliction.

BREAKING: Donald Trump greeted by crowds of supporters in East Palestine, slams Biden for prioritizing Ukraine over America
“If you were in office right now, what would you have done to help the people of East Palestine?” Hernandez asked, to which Trump said, “FEMA would have been here a long time ago.”

Donald Trump landed in East Palestine, Ohio on Wednesday, where he met with local officials and citizens of the small town still trying to bounce back from the ecological disaster caused by a train derailment and subsequent controlled burn.

The Biden regime recently denied FEMA aid to East Palestine, saying that it did not meet the criteria. “What East Palestine needs is much more expansive than what FEMA can provide,” the official continued. “FEMA is on the frontlines when there is a hurricane or tornado. This situation is different.”

Which you would know HOW, exactly? Certainly not firsthand.

Trump would go on to deliver some remarks thanking police, firefighters, and first responders while assuring that those who have been impacted would not be left behind. “It’s an honor to be here. It’s an incredible place,” Trump said, “we’re here today in East Palestine to show our love and support for our fellow Americans in this hour of need…They’ve done some incredible work in a short period of time.”

“To the people of East Palestine and nearby communities in Ohio and Pennsylvania, we have told you loud and clear, ‘you are not forgotten.’ We stand with you, pray for you, and we will stand with you in your fight to help answer and the accountability you deserve… will all be out there, very clearly,” said Trump.

Trump said that the community needs “answers and results,” and that Norfolk Southern needs to “fulfill its obligations.”

“The people of East Palestine are going to be taken care of… When your representatives and all of your politicians get here, including Biden, get back from touring Ukraine, that he’s got some money left over as we’re now at $117 billion, and as you probably know, Europe when you add it all up has added $10 billion. That’s a big difference… They’re at it again, they’re very good negotiators those people in Europe. When you add it all up, it’s about the same size as the United States’ [contributions] the economy of the different European countries, and they’re at a very small number compared to us… That’s a massive difference, it’s a very small fraction of what we’ve put up and it affects them more than us. They have to do what they have to do.”

Trump would then go to a nearby McDonald’s restaurant, where he would continue to answer questions.

Mo’ bettah Trump:

Trump Overrules Pete Buttigieg, Delivers Truckloads of Water to East Palestine, Ohio
President Donald Trump visited East Palestine, Ohio where he delivered truckloads of bottled water following a toxic train derailment earlier this month.

The disaster has left the small town reeling, with Democrat President Joe Biden’s administration showing little interest in the crisis.

Government officials at both the state and federal levels have not risen up to the challenge, leaving the people of East Palestine furious.

After being snubbed by the Biden admin, Trump scheduled a visit to the town to show them support.

After Trump’s Wednesday visits, Biden’s Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg scheduled a trip to see the disaster firsthand, almost three weeks after the train derailed on February 4.

This is vintage Trump at his very best, making a unique contribution which in the long view will amount to much more than he’ll ever be able to accomplish anywhere else. I do wish he’d focus his considerable attention more on things like this, along with mass rallies and speeches to inspire and reinforce Real Americans in their long fight against The Enemy, rather than vainly chasing after an office he’ll never be allowed to accede to anyway.

He was already re-elected once, and when the “election”-fraud dust settled what we wound up with instead was a senescent, corrupt kiddie-diddler so old and feeble he can’t even walk up a flight of stairs without busting his damned-fool ass right out in front of God and everybody roosting in the Oval Office as pRetend “pResident.” So how’s all that working out for ya’s, anyway? There’s a lesson in there somewheres, and one would think Trump of all people might have learned it by now.

Stealing their thunder

As Steyn always says, the future belongs to those who show up for it.

Keeping kids safe: Idaho MassResistance activists take up all the seats at Drag Queen show in local library.

As in many other “red” states these days, the Marshall Public Library in Pocatello, a town in Bannock County in southeastern Idaho, is now staffed by leftists and LGBT activists. We’ve been told that one of the staffers is a Drag Queen at night.

Citizens in Bannock County had become outraged at the large number of obscene books and the Drag Queen Story Hours for children at the library. In mid-December 2022, one of them contacted MassResistance. We got right to work helping them. Within weeks, our new chapter there had nearly 50 people, which included members of local churches.

On January 17, a group of parents attended a Library Board meeting and read from some of the obscene books. But they were ignored. One Board member continued to deny that there was any obscene material in the library. But the parents had only gotten started!

The next Drag Queen Story Hour took place February 11, 2023.

Our activists initially planned to gather in the lobby of the library, just outside the meeting room of the DQSH. They were going to sing hymns so that the Drag Queens and the attendees in the main meeting room could hear them. If the police were called to force them to leave, then our team would go outside, stand around the library near the windows and sing. Everyone can hear people outside of the library, so it would have been a peaceful disruption.

But as the event came closer, they had the idea to go into the meeting room early and take up all the seats! That way, they would prevent adults from taking children into the story hour.

It worked. All of our activists showed up half an hour early with Bibles in their hands. They were going to read the Bible through the whole event. The library director saw what was going on, and he said to our activists: “If you are not here to participate then you need to leave.” None of our activists left. They reminded him that it was a publicly advertised event in a public place and he couldn’t simply order them out. So he backed down.

Well done and good show to the fine folks at MassResistance—who, if my bold above is any indication, appear to have a pretty good grasp of a vital concept: if you don’t resist them, then they win. Read it all, it gets even better from there.

The secession solution

Most welcome news out of what may soon be Greater Idaho.

Breaking: Idaho Legislature Passes Bill to Move Idaho-Oregon Border to Include Large Swath Eastern Oregon

In November 2022 two more counties in Oregon voted to join the state of Idaho. Several other counties have already done this in recent years.

The reasons are pretty simple. These Oregonians are tired of being associated with the radical left that rules the city of Portland and drives policy for the rest of the state.

They feel that Idaho, a far more conservative state, much better represents their beliefs.

Conservatives in Oregon fed up with the far-left policies coming from the state legislature in Salem may have hope on the horizon. The Greater Idaho Movement, a secession movement with allies in both the Oregon and Idaho state legislatures, is making progress in its efforts to convince 15 conservative counties in rural Oregon to secede and join Idaho.

11 eastern Oregon counties have already voted in favor of joining Idaho. Due to this success, Idaho state lawmakers have introduced legislation to begin discussions with the Oregon State Legislature on relocating the Idaho/Oregon state boundary.

A Republican State Senator in Oregon introduced a bill to start talks with Idaho last month.

Mike McCarter, the leader of The Greater Idaho Movement, argues his endeavor will give eastern Oregon voters an actual voice in state affairs should the counties officially join. Unlike the urban liberal areas which dominate Oregon politics, Idaho is a rural, conservative state with traditional values.

This week The Greater Idaho bill passed the Idaho House of Representatives.

Good on ‘em. Unfortunately, I can easily imagine Oregon’s legislature stymieing them, if only just out of pure spite. We shall see.

Behind the badge

Two from my latest daily Quora email.

As a cop, have you ever pulled over someone who was actually rushing someone in labor to the hospital? What did you do?

Yes. I lit up a couple for doing 95 in a 60. At 2:30 in the morning. They wouldn’t stop. I hit the siren. I hit the howler. I called for backup. I had no idea of the vehicle’s situation. Finally, after 3 miles, they stopped. The driver instantly hopped out of his vehicle and came running back to me. I immediately reversed to gain distance. He screamed that his wife was in extreme labor. And please…please help.

I ran to their vehicle. She was…a mess. I pulled her into the back seat. Short story… her baby delivered into my hands. She was a mess. I was a mess. The baby (a girl) was a mess. Fortunately, a female Deputy responded, and “took charge.”

I’m glad all survived. I truly am. But I hope I never experience that again…

Heh. I imagine so, yeah. This next one is even better.

So this happened in Montana. I’m on my way to go to my interview this morning when I get pulled over by a police officer.

I am native American and my friend that was with me is black. Just saying.

Both brake lights decided to go out this time.

As he walked to the car and I was pulling out my stuff, he quickly said,

“Don’t worry about pulling anything out. I just want you to know that your brake lights are out.”

So I’m immediately upset because I just got them replaced like last month.

So I explained to him how Firestone wants to charge me $600 just to run a test on the wiring of the car.

He looked at me like 😨 and told me to pop the trunk.

He checked the lights in the trunk and tapped them, but they didn’t come on.

So he told me to pop the hood to check the relay box then asked me to get out to check the other one.

Then worked on the wiring under the dash.

He could’ve easily given me a ticket, but Officer Jenkins stepped out of the officer role, and into the mechanic role, and human role to make sure I was straight.

By the way, HE FIXED THEM. Not everyone is racist or a bad cop.

There’s a pic included with the post, to wit:

RighteousCop

It may not be the way the smart money bets these days, but even so, they’re not ALL bad. Difficult as it can be sometimes to remember that, it’s probably better if we all try to, for everyone involved.

Sarah “Shut ‘Em Down” Sanders

Sarah Huckabee Sanders—for whom, it seems, I’m gonna have to start appending “The Great” as a prefix to her first name, like I’ve been doing with Ron DeSantis; Lord knows she’s earned it—tore China Joe a new one in her HOTU response.

‘Crazy’ and ‘Wrong’: Sarah Huckabee Sanders Destroys Biden Narrative in SOTU Response

Despite being in office for just a few weeks, Arkansas GOP Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders is no stranger to the limelight and her rising star shined bright on Tuesday night during her Republican rebuttal to President Biden’s second State of the Union address.

The youngest governor in America, Sanders began her speech talking about her experiences as a mother that left her “not believing much of anything I heard tonight from President Biden.”

Reiterating that America is the “greatest country the world has known” because it is the “freest” ever known, Sanders affirmed the belief that “government exists not to rule the people, but to serve the people.”

Contrasting herself with Biden, Sanders said “At 40, I’m the youngest governor in the country. At 80, he’s the oldest president in American history. I’m the first woman to lead my state, he’s the first man to surrender his presidency to a woke mob that can’t even tell you what a woman is,” the governor said, rightly turning up the heat on Democrats.

Blasting Biden and the “radical left” for its vision for Americans that “taxes you and lights your hard-earned money on fire” while “you get crushed with high gas prices, empty grocery shelves, and our children are taught to hate one another on account of their race, but not to love one another or our great country,” Sanders didn’t let those across the aisle off the hook for anything.

Saying “the Biden administration seems more interested in woke fantasies than the hard reality Americans face every day,” Sanders explained that “most Americans simply want to live their lives in freedom and peace, but we are under attack in a left-wing culture war we didn’t start and never wanted to fight.”

“That’s not normal,” Sanders said speaking for Republicans and countless Americans. “It’s crazy, and it’s wrong.”

Incredible as it may seem, there’s more yet, every bit of it meeting the same high standard for quality as the above. As I mentioned the other day, Sanders was the best Presidential press secretary ever under Trump, and she’s on track to be the best governor Arkansas ever had now. You go, girl.

In praise of Pat Buchanan

As Barry Goldwater’s ill-fated 1964 campaign’s slogan had it: In your heart, you know he’s right.

America First: A Tribute to Pat Buchanan

Last Friday, Buchanan announced he is retiring the political column he has written since the days of Barry Goldwater. It is the final end of a public political career that has spanned a half century of decline in the country Buchanan loved so much and fought so hard to save. And if Buchanan can’t boast that he actually did save the country, he at least has the satisfaction of seeing ideas that once made him an outcast from his own party rise to become the dominant worldview within it. Without Buchanan, there would be no Trump. For that matter, without Buchanan, there would be no Revolver.

Of all the people who might be deemed a forerunner of Donald Trump and his political revolution, Pat Buchanan has by far the most worthy claim.

Consider this article from 2015, published just as Trump’s presidential campaign was taking off:

Mr. Trump revels in controversy. But as he assails illegal immigration as an “invasion” and refers to Mexicans en masse as “Jose,” his critics are accusing him of taking controversy a step too far. They say Mr. Trump is speaking in code, using xenophobic images like those or anti-Semitic references to excite bigots without alienating mainstream voters.

[Trump frequently offers] direct and sometimes harsh mockery of foreigners, using his derision to cultivate support for his immigration and trade policies. “I’ll build that security fence, and we’ll close it, and we’ll say, ‘Listen Jose, you’re not coming in this time!’ ” he shouted to applause from an almost entirely white audience at a rally in Waterloo, Iowa three weeks ago.

Okay, you probably already guessed the twist: That’s not Trump at all, but a write-up of Buchanan’s presidential campaign twenty-six years ago. All that’s missing is the promise to make Mexico pay for the fence. Buchanan didn’t just share Trump’s views, but his talent for colorful language that drove the regime berserk; a quarter-century before “Crooked Hillary,” China’s Deng Xiaoping was a “chain-smoking Communist dwarf.”

Donald Trump won the presidency by appealing to the Silent Majority, but Buchanan is the one who literally coined the term working as a speechwriter for Richard Nixon. And throughout his career, Buchanan tried his best to speak for that quiet mass of beleaguered American humanity.

Put up a fence, send illegals home, America-first trade policy, an end to foreign interventionism, no more wokeness: It was all there, 20 years ahead of Trump. But tragically, the message went unheeded. Buchanan was the intellectual son of accountant, not a billionaire real estate tycoon with three decades’ experience as a TV star. Buchanan had the ideas, but Trump had the money, the star power, the meme magic. Buchanan’s 1992 campaign was the last credible primary challenge to an incumbent president, but nothing more. His 1996 campaign might have worked against a more divided field, but against an establishment firmly united around Bob Dole, Buchanan won just four states and 20% of the primary vote.

But Buchanan never deviated or retooled his message just for the sake of popularity. Instead, he willingly endured more than a decade as the Republican Party’s Cassandra.

In the end, all of Buchanan’s warnings came true: Middle America became a hollowed-out, deindustrialized area wracked with blight and drug overdoses. America’s foreign adventures wasted trillions and achieved nothing. The tidal wave of foreign immigration resulted not in rainbow-like harmony but endless struggles between different identity groups. And all of this culminated in crushing defeat for the Bush-era Republican party that embraced all of these trends. It would only return to the White House in 2016 behind a candidate who finally did what Buchanan had begged the party to do a quarter-century before: Actually reach out to middle America and seek the support of America’s Silent Majority.

“My friends, these people are our people,” Buchanan said in 1992. “They don’t read Adam Smith or Edmund Burke, but they come from the same schoolyards and the same playgrounds and towns as we come from. They share our beliefs and convictions, our hopes and our dreams. They are the conservatives of the heart. They are our people. And we need to reconnect with them. We need to let them know we know how bad they’re hurting. They don’t expect miracles of us, but they need to know we care.”

Sadly, it took twenty-four years for the GOP to field a candidate who did.

Yep—dragged kicking and screaming every step of the way, and to this day they struggle desperately to smite him, and make damned sure he stays smote for the duration. Just as any debased, corrupted system or organization always will do, to any nonconformist, visionary outlaw who dares stand athwart them and their nefarious ambitions.

Talking sense to Woke

I’ve seen the vid recommended several places but didn’t watch it, hoping some sort of at least partial transcript might eventually become available. Well, one has.

Comedian Konstantin Kisin’s Oxford Debate Speech Was Epic, Signaling That WOKE May Finally Be Going, ‘Bye, Bye’

Konstantin Kisin is a satirist, podcaster, author and political commentator and on his “Triggernometry” podcast, he and his co-host Francis Foster focus on these subjects, as well as the WOKE culture that has overtaken the Western world.

At 40, Kisin is an early Millennial (or Xennial, as they are now being categorized). So, he has lived some life, had a taste of career success, and has a family. Some of the things that indicate that your views on how life and the economy works is not merely theoretical. Kisin also was born in Russia and emigrated to Europe, domiciling in Great Britain. So, he has not always benefited from living in the Western petri dishes where WOKENESS germinates and takes hold.

Which is what makes him, and this debate speech he gave at The Oxford Union Society so compelling. The Oxford Union is a membership club that encourages debate among its members as well as celebrity, political, and guest speakers. Kisin was debating, Resolved: Has Woke Culture Gone Too Far? And Kisin’s epic counter response is the reason this video is getting so much play.

Kisin started his treatise by expressing that he is tired of talking about WOKE culture and its targeted attacks to destroy freedom of speech, as well as its false flag operations to create “equity,” which is merely racism in a cheap jacket:

“I am so tired of talking about Woke culture. That’s why it’s gone too far more than anything else.

[…]

“No, No, Free speech is not some right-wing reframing of whatever, it’s the foundation of Western civilization. Upon which this civilization is built and the alignment values that led to it.

“The only way to deal with the problem of racism is to treat people on the content of their character. And nothing else. And the fact that WOKE culture seeks to overturn that is a new form of racism that we must all oppose.”

Kisin warned that we will destroy ourselves if we continue to allow this erosion of our culture and our confidence in Western values.

Then Kisin turned his focus on Climate Change, directing his speech toward Millennials and Gen Z—at least the ones who he felt might be, “open to rational argument.” Although he knew he was speaking to young people who honor their feelings above any rational truth, Kisin made this fact-based point.

“[Climate Change will be decided] by poor people in Asia and Latin America who don’t care about saving the planet—because they’re poor.”

Kind of hard being concerned about the future of the planet, when your future only extends to your next meal.

More at the link, all of it good.

Threatens the tyrant

The usual blather from a gun-grabbing blowhard.

Illinois Governor JB Pritzker has blasted the more than six dozen sheriff’s offices across the state for vowing to defy a new gun control law.

“This is political grandstanding at its worst. The assault weapons ban is the law of Illinois,” the governor’s office told Fox News on Monday. “The General Assembly passed the bill and the Governor signed it into law to protect children in schools, worshippers at church, and families at parades from the fear of sudden mass murder.”

The state Senate passed the Protect Illinois Communities Act last week, which bans assault weapons 2A-protected semi-automatic rifles and high-capacity standard-capacity magazines from being sold or manufactured in the state.

Edited by me, for purposes of veracity.

At least 74 sheriff’s offices have publicly stated their opposition to the law, calling it unconstitutional.

80 at last count, out of a possible hundred and two counties in Illinois. Which adds up to an overwhelming majority in anybody’s book. Gee, Gov Prickzter, think maybe the problem here might not lie with these stalwart sheriffs, who are standing up straight and tall in resistance to mendacious authority, but with this soggy sop you’re tossing to the fear-stricken and factually-challenged in your sorry state?

“Part of my duties that I accepted upon being sworn into office was to protect the rights provided to all of us, in the Constitution,” Edwards County Sheriff Darby Boewe said on Facebook. “One of those rights enumerated is the right of the people to KEEP and BEAR ARMS provided under the 2nd Amendment. The right to keep and bear arms for defense of life, liberty and property is regarded as an inalienable right by the people.”

The Illinois Sheriff’s Association stated last week that they have opposed the bill since its inception.

“We, as a representative of chief law enforcement officials throughout Illinois, are very concerned and disturbed by the ongoing and escalating violence throughout our State and Country,” they said. “We are always supportive of new tools, techniques and laws that assist us in preventing and holding accountable those that wage efforts of harm and violence on others. However, this new law does not do that.”

As statistics and studies have confirmed, over and again.

Pritzker’s office continues to maintain that law enforcement in the state doesn’t have the right to “pick and choose which laws they support.”

Perhaps so, and then again perhaps not. What they DO have is a clear and specific duty to refuse to enforce patently unlawful and contra-Constitutional edicts such as this one, you multi-chinned fascist slob. These good men and true are upholding their oaths of office; you’re violating yours. If this nation is to survive qua nation for very much longer, it will require a whole lot fewer of YOU and a whole lot more of THEM to see to it that it does.

Next time grubby, greasy Gov Prickzter is consoling himself with a few dozen fully-loaded triple-decker fatburgers in the privacy of the Governor’s Mansion, I hope he chokes to death on ’em.

Speaker Trump?

Highly speculative, certainly. But highly amusing just the same.

Meet the New House Speaker: President Donald J. Trump…Running Congress Direct From Maralago
I told you so. My plan worked. It just worked in a way I never imagined.

Like Martin Luther King, I had a dream. My dream was Trump as House Speaker. I was the first in America to propose the idea in a commentary on 1/30/21. Then I talked about it nonstop for months on my nationally-syndicated radio show. I personally lobbied President Trump in numerous appearances on my radio and TV shows.

But Trump made it clear he never really wanted it. Trump is always number one. The Chairman of the Board. The 5 Star General. He doesn’t take orders from anyone. I think he always looked at Nancy Pelosi, Paul Ryan and John Boehner (the last 3 House Speakers) as errand boys and girls. Order takers. So, Trump never wanted the job. Not enough star power for him.

And who can blame him? Look at Trump’s life. Trump had the greatest life on earth. He became not only a billionaire, but the most famous billionaire on earth. The celebrity of all celebrities. With the most famous celebrity estate- Maralago. And the most famous reality TV show, “Celebrity Apprentice.”

Who’d give that life up?

Trump did. To save America and the forgotten middle class. To fight the DC Swamp and the Deep State. To make America great again. He gave up his one-in-a-billion life for you and me!

Now he wants to be president again. Trump never saw House Speaker as his calling. He was flattered by my idea. But he never wanted the job. House Speaker takes up too much time. Trump needs to be free to run for president again.

Trump plays chess at much higher level. My idea was a good one. Trump just made it happen in a different way. You see, Trump is the newly elected House Speaker. Just not in name. In name, the title goes to Kevin McCarthy.

But guess who got McCarthy elected? Trump. And guess who controls McCarthy’s every move as House Speaker? The MAGA, America First, loyal Trump members of the Freedom Caucus.

MAGA has McCarthy by the short hairs. McCarthy can’t take a bathroom break without asking the Freedom Caucus for permission. So, guess who’s actually running Congress? De-facto House Speaker Donald J. Trump.

Few understood why Congressman Matt Gaetz and his band of merry Trump warriors embarrassed McCarthy for 15 excruciating rounds. It was all about extracting every last conservative MAGA concession from McCarthy. To make sure McCarthy understood that MAGA was his master.

Well, possibly, I guess. Certainly, that would be the only credible explanation for Trump fellating McCarthy during the Speaker-selection process I’ve heard proposed, especially after McCarthy had so egregiously stabbed Da Donald in the back over J6. Nonetheless, it’s all just a bit too much of the old Q-style “eleventy-D chess” wishful thinking for me to just gulp down whole. But t’is a consummation devoutly to be wished. In the final analysis, one can only shrug and mutter, “Hey, who the hell knows?”

Ignore illegal orders

In Illinois, of all places.

Some Illinois Sheriffs Say Departments Will Not Comply With Assault Weapon Registration Requirements

As potential legal fights percolate over Illinois’ new assault weapons ban, law enforcement officials in several counties have said that their departments will not enforce provisions of the bill that require existing weapons to be registered with the State Police.

Their arguments center around their stance that the bill, which makes it illegal for Illinois residents to purchase, transfer or manufacture assault weapons and extended magazines, violates the Second Amendment.

McHenry County Sheriff Robb Tadelman was one of numerous law enforcement officials throughout the state who shared messages on social media in the aftermath of the bill’s passage.

“Neither myself nor my office will be checking to ensure that lawful gun owners register their weapons with the state, nor will we be arresting or housing law abiding individuals that have been charged solely with non-compliance with this act,” he said.

Many of those law enforcement officials shared identical messages, including Kankakee County Sheriff Mike Downey, Sheriff Jack Harlan in Boone County and Winnebago County Sheriff Gary Caruana.

In a statement, Illinois Gov. J.B. Pritzker’s office called the messages “political grandstanding at its worst,” and said that sheriffs and departments that refuse to enforce the ban are “in violation of their oath of office.”

Au contraire, you rat-bastard prick; YOU are. Heartfelt kudos to these fine fellows; clearly, they understand their oath of office, the US Constitution, and their solemn and sacred duty to uphold it a damned sight better than their shitlib Goobernor ever will, or could.

Success story

Doing the jobs Repugnicants just won’t do.

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis is taking another victory lap, highlighting all his’ Free State of Florida”  2022 accomplishments (wins), including his hurricane response, protecting parental rights, investing in teachers and higher education, and combatting the “woke society” he has been pushing back against since first taking office in 2019.

Here is Gov. DeSantis complete outline of his “Free State of Florida” wins:

It is indeed a long, long list, reinforcing my fervent hope that he won’t waste any time and energy running for Prexy in ’24. He’s gotten way more worthwhile things accomplished as Governor than he’ll ever be allowed to while besieged in the Oval Orifice. Such as this, which didn’t make the list.

Gov. DeSantis taps Christopher Rufo, 5 others to transform New College of Florida into ‘classical college’

The DeSantis administration wants to model New College on Hillsdale College.

Gov. Ron DeSantis has appointed conservative activist Christopher Rufo and five others to the New College of Florida Board of Trustees in his continuing move to eliminate “political ideology” from public higher education.

With the six new members of the school’s Board of Trustees, the DeSantis administration plans to weed out concepts like diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) and critical race theory (CRT). The move comes amid low student enrollment at the New College of Florida and as DeSantis ramps up his second term.

In a statement Friday, DeSantis Communications Director Taryn Fenskesaid New College has been “completely captured by a political ideology that puts trendy, truth-relative concepts above learning.”

“Starting today, the ship is turning around,” DeSantis Press Secretary Bryan Griffin continued. “New College of Florida, under the Governor’s new appointees, will be refocused on its founding mission of providing a world-class quality education with an exceptional focus on the classics.”

Rufo, along with several of his fellow appointees, has been a driving force in the movement against CRT.

“I’m proud to announce that Gov. Ron DeSantis has appointed me to the Board of Trustees of the New College of Florida,” Rufo tweeted. “My ambition is to help the new board majority transform New College into a classical liberal arts institution. We are recapturing higher education.”

Others appointed Friday are Emory University professor Mark Bauerlein, Claremont-McKenna College professor Charles Kesler, attorney Debra Jenks and Inspiration Academy Co-Founder Jason “Eddie” Speir.

Rounding out the list is Matthew Spalding, dean of Hillsdale College D.C. campus’ Graduate School of Government. Hillsdale College is a private conservative liberal arts college that the DeSantis administration is referencing as its model for transforming New College.

You go, Gov.

Let it be

No, the federal G isn’t remotely likely to stand idly by and let it happen. But hey, a man can dream, right?

BOMBSHELL POLL: 66% of Texas Voters Want TEXIT

According to a newly released poll by SurveyUSA, a top-rated pollster, 66% of likely Texas voters want Texas to withdraw from the union and “become an independent country.”

The bombshell poll was conducted in eight states, including Texas, Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana, South Carolina, Florida, New Hampshire, and Hawaii. Support for exiting the union polled highest in Texas, with regular voters showing 66% support and voters who vote only in presidential elections showing 63%.

The poll results shouldn’t surprise supporters of the Texas Nationalist Movement. TNM President Daniel Miller has publicly stated that he believes a TEXIT referendum result would be 60%-65% in favor of Texas reclaiming its status as an independent nation.

69% of Texas voters who expressed an opinion want Texas to hold a referendum on separating from the US, including 81% of Republicans. These numbers support the recent vote by delegates to the Republican Party of Texas Convention, who voted 90.08% in favor of a platform plank that calls for putting the TEXIT question to the people of Texas.

With or without a vote, 60% of Texas voters who expressed an opinion want Texas to set a date for a complete withdrawal from the union. 70% of Texas Republican adults who expressed an opinion agreed.

They can want it all they like, but wanting ain’t getting, alas. Lest anyone forget, we already fought one war over this sort of thing, and FederalGovCo has only gotten bigger, greedier, more powerful, and more tyrannical since then. If Texans truly do want their freedom and independence…well, there’s only ever been just the one way of achieving that, really. Thomas Jefferson knew it well enough.

What country can preserve it’s liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them.

And that’s the long and the short of it.

Banana republics gotta banana republic

What the J6 “insurrection” probably SHOULD have looked like. At least, in the early going.

Chaos in Brazil: Protesters Storm Capital, Destroying Supreme Court and Congress

Thousands of opponents of socialist convicted felon President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva stormed his offices and the headquarters of the Congress and Supreme Federal Tribunal (STF) of Brazil on Sunday, reportedly demolishing the facades of two of the three buildings and causing “irreparable” damage to priceless artifacts in the chambers.

The riot in Brasilia occurred while Lula himself was in Sao Paulo state assessing the damage of recent floods. Lula, in a public statement following police action to subdue the protesters, announced an official “federal intervention” in Brasilia – consolidating the public security powers of several agencies into the hands of a hand-picked, top-level official – and accused police of acting in “bad faith” in failing to prevent the protesters from storming the buildings.

The incident is an offshoot of months of protests following the October presidential election that saw Lula narrowly defeat then-incumbent President Jair Bolsonaro in two rounds of voting. Most protesters support Bolsonaro but, more broadly, oppose Lula’s victory as illegitimate on several grounds, including his multiple convictions on charges of corrupt acts occurring during his first two terms as president. An audit of the 2022 runoff presidential election, which featured only Bolsonaro and Lula as candidates, by the Armed Forces of Brazil concluded that no guarantee could be made of the absence of fraud or irregularities.

Protesters also accuse the STF, particularly its head justice Alexandre de Moraes, of intervening in the election by censoring mentions of Lula’s corruption case and silencing Bolsonaro supporters through fines and police raids.

Well, gee, that last bit doesn’t sound AT ALL like how we found ourselves stuck with dear old Pedo Joe as pRetend “pResident,” now does it?

Lula’s inauguration on January 1 occurred without major incident and Lula used his powers to immediately begin undoing Bolsonaro policies, most notably sharply limiting civilian access to firearms.

Proving yet again that gun-grabbing shitlibs are the same the world over.

Last month, Lula’s pick for justice minister, Flavio Dino, referred to anti-Lula protest groups as “incubators of terrorism.”

Nope, still not ringing any bells for me. Don’t know about you guys.

Many of the protesters convening in Brasilia on Sunday are part of a movement demanding that the nation’s military oust Lula. They insist that their demand is not for a coup d’etat, but for a “military intervention” they say the Brazilian constitution provides for in the event of an illegitimate election.

Some protesters shared videos on social media during the event on Sunday urging the military to “save us from communism.”

Sorry to be the wet blanket here, but I’m afraid that’s on y’all, same as it is here in the US. Vote your way in, shoot your way out, all that jazz.

All in all, I can only agree with JJ.

With that, fresh off the two-year anniversary of “the most devastating attack on our precious democracy (*vomits*) than the Civil War, Pearl Harbor and 9/11 combined,” the brave citizenry of Brazil have a few things to say about Socialist/Globalist rigged elections. And I’d be lying to you if I said what’s happening down South American way isn’t making my mouth water.

Ditto, brother. Mega-MAGA dittos, you might even say.

Update! Kunstler tots up some of the striking similarities between thither banana republic and yon one.

A great mob of many thousands went apeshit in Brazil over the weekend in that country’s weird, geographically isolated capital, Brasilia, a horror of 1960s-style Modernist city planning. They stormed the national congress and trashed the offices within to protest the fishy election of President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva over the former incumbent Jair Bolsonaro. As in our own country, the quarrel was over the mysterious behavior of voting machines and the unwillingness of election officials or courts to verify the results. The New York Times offered a thumbnail of Mr. Bolsonaro, who is sitting out the current action in Florida:

The resulting picture showed an elected leader, first as a congressman and then as president, who has built a narrative of fraudulent elections based on inaccuracies, out-of-context reports, circumstantial evidence, conspiracy theories and downright falsehoods — much like former President Donald J. Trump.”

Get it? There’s no way fraud could have happened, just like in our country. And Bolsonaro is another Trump. It explains everything. All complaints are “baseless,” “false,” and “conspiracy theories.” End-of-story…. Are these shopworn tropes maybe losing their mojo? And is The New York Times embarrassing itself, a little bit, to trot them out as if they are actually arguments against anything?

The truth is more that Mr. Lula is another Hugo Chavez, poised to wreck Brazil with a fresh attempt at nationalizing all enterprise, ramping up a Marxist police state, and inviting China to partner-up in the action, including new Chinese military bases in the western hemisphere — an interesting challenge to the Monroe Doctrine (if anyone remembers what it says). And so, Mr. Lula has arrested hundreds of protesters and declared a national emergency.

Don’t expect it to stop there. The protesters are asking the army to intervene, as Brazil’s constitution actually obligates them to do in election disputes. Also, unlike the USA, Brazil has plenty of prior experience with the army removing elected leaders. Sometimes, electing yourself into tyranny is not the best way to solve economic problems. For the moment, Mr. Lula borrows a page from the American Left’s playbook for destroying a society. It will matter a lot if he doesn’t get away with it. That’s why the US political Swamp, and its errand boys in the news media, look on the action in Brazil with alarm. Unlike the January 6 protest in Washington, the Brasilia mob represents a genuine insurrection aimed at overthrowing a communist seizure of power.

All well and good, until we go off the rails entirely, in the usual fashion.

Before long, the House is going to impeach Mr. Biden over this fiasco and quite a few other matters. He may not be convicted in the Senate, with its slim Democratic Party majority, but they will be compelled to hold a trial, at least, where a lot of dirty laundry will get aired, and pressure will mount for the old grifter to resign.

Hoooooo-KAY, then. Don’t let’s anybody be holding their etc waiting for THAT Skittles-pooting unicorn to turn up, that’s my advice.

Hitting the books

I am thrilled as all git-out to report that, after my having contacted him a day or two ago about the possibility of getting my greasy hands on one, the esteemed and estimable Oleg Atbashian of the wholly brilliant People’s Cube satire site has most graciously provided me with an ePub copy of his latest autobiographical book, Hotel USSR, for review purposes. I have two other books with pending reviews on my to-do list—Jonathan Fesmire’s unconventional, wild, and rollicking Bodacious Creed and the San Francisco Syndicate (done, and done—M), and our good friend TL Davis’s uncompromising, bare-knuckled Rogue, the sequel to his paean to freedom, REBEL: The Last American Novel. I’ll be catching up on this happy backlog of reading and reviewing in a trice, folks.
