My father, still with us, and a WW2 veteran who went at age 17 and was on the way to the Pacific theater in a “troop transport ship” (converted cattle boat) when the bombs dropped, has never forgiven the Japanese. He doesn’t hate them as individuals but he doesn’t want anything from them either. It was only in recent years that I’ve come to forgive them…

Getting older has the advantage of still being among the living. OTOH, the longer you live the more death of loved ones you have to bear. Today was one of those as we put one of my wife’s family to rest.
And tonight I see one of the greatest Americans has passed away, Astronaut Frank Borman, commander of the first Apollo mission to the moon, circling the moon ten times.
And this in 1968, 55 years ago.

Trump 2020 is basically the same as Trump 1995, and Trump is liked and admired by the average Joe, which is why he won in 2016 and won by a landslide in 2020. He will win again in 2024, the question being – will we allow a 2nd coup to occur?
You cannot listen to this interview, now nearly 30 years old, without recognizing the genuine American character this man has. Not if your honest anyway.
Three national titles and numerous wins against the very best. People created controversy regarding Coach Knight because he was driven to excel and expected every player to put forth their best effort at all times.
I “hated” Knight because he beat my team in 1981, winning his second of three titles at Indiana. Carolina would come back the next year to win Smith’s first title (1982).
Bobby Knight never had to face NCAA sanctions because he never violated the rules. That says as much as anything else about the man. He was without question one of the finest basketball tacticians and teachers.
RIP, Coach Knight, you earned a good rest on the hardwood.

We lost a NC (Pineville) native today, the legendary Walter Davis. One of the best Tar Heel basketball players in history and famous for the “shot”. The shot was a 25 foot shot at the buzzer against dook in 1974 that capped an 8 points in 17 second scoring spree to tie the game and send it to OT where Carolina would win. Walter was a freshman that year. Walter Davis is the uncle of current UNC head coach Hubert Davis. RIP Walter, you were as fine a man as you were a great BB player.

Good question from what is an accurate article IMO. At least here in NC I see the tide changing substantially. From a barely reddish state with a commie gov, to a hardcore super majority legislature and supreme court to match. Next up, getting a solid non rino republican governor and the turn around will be nearly complete.

In spite of my barbs thrown out at all things Ford, and maybe just needling a committed Ford man, Mike, just a bit, there is the GT40, one of the great cars and programs of all time.
As a committed Chevy/GM man, I did not like Fords, with one exception. Even in my youth I despised the european ways, and Henry Ford took on the Italians that had dominated LeMans. In 1966 the GT40 would finish 1,2, and 3, vanquishing the cars from Maranello. Ford’s gambit was an international effort featuring the great British Sports Car engineer/driver Ken Miles. Of the three Shelby Ford entries that year, there were driver greats Denny Hulme paired with Miles, Americans Dan Gurney and Jerry Grant in another car, and Bruce McLaren and Chris Amon in the 3rd Shelby entry. There were five more non factory GT40’s in the race.
The GT40 would follow up the ’66 race with wins in ’67, ’68, and 1969. The great Ken Miles lost his life testing just a couple months after the 1966 123 race where he was far ahead of the other two, but because Ford played with the finish to have them all finish the same time at the line, and with the Miles car having started further forward, Miles didn’t get the credit for the win.
