“Something like a war is underway”

So let’s win it.

Things are shaking loose. Secrets are flying out of black boxes. Shots have been fired. The center is not holding because the center is no longer there, only a black hole where the center used to be, and, within it, the shriekings of lost souls. Will the United States go missing this week, or fight its way out of the chaos and darkness?

If it’s ever to get out at all, it can only do it by fighting.

Whatever occurs in this strange week of confrontation, Joe Biden will not be leading any part of it. Where has he been since Christmas? Back to hiding in the basement? Did the American people elect a ghost? Even if this storm blows over, could Joe Biden possibly claim any legitimacy in the Oval Office? And then what happens with the rest of the story — which is an epic economic convulsion sharper than the Great Depression — as time is unsuspended and the year 2021 actually unspools?

Only the bare outlines of this week’s fateful game are visible. Mr. Trump has not conceded the election. An action will play out in congress under rarely-used constitutional rules as to how the electoral college votes are awarded to whom. The rancor around this action is already epic. Few of the political players are beyond suspicion of dark deals and shifty allegiances. Persistent rumor has the president laying out a royal flush of deadly information about his antagonists, enough to make heads explode among the formerly cocksure and vaporize the narrative they’ve been running for four years.

A whole lot of people are converging in the nation’s capital at midweek, maybe even the touted million. It is a moment, possibly, not unlike the Bastille in Paris, 1789. They will be clamoring right outside Congress as the electoral vote ceremony proceeds. If the battle is not joined in the chamber, it’s a little hard to believe the crowd will just heave a million sighs, trudge back to their cars, and drive quietly home.

It’s not nearly as hard to believe as it should be, more’s the pity. Then again, Ol’ Remus’ sage advice about staying away from crowds keeps coming to mind.

  1. Mr. Trump has not conceded the election.

And Humpy Harris hasn’t resigned her Senate seat.

    1. “And Humpy Harris hasn’t resigned her Senate seat.”

I don’t know what, if anything, the president will do, but obviously neither does the marxist party.

  2. I would have said they might refrain from Stealing the GA Senate Elections tomorrow. I thought it would look ugly of they stopped the count and trucked in ballots again. I don’t think they’ll do that.

I think as soon as the polls close the major media (including Fox) will just call it for Osoff and Warnock based upon exit polls and then just move on. Probably to bashing Trump for The Call and how he hasn’t left the Oval Office and Conceded yet.

    1. Agree that the media will call the races for the Dems the second the polls close, with supposedly “right wing” Fox leading the way just as they did in November. That particular mask has been shredded beyond repair, but they will try to get a little last bit of mileage out of it.

It will be interesting to see how they fake the votes. Do they try something more subtle than in November, since they know lots of people will be watching closely? Or do they just pull an in-your-face steal and dare the GOP to do something about it? Given the Georgia GOP’s uselessness, probably they just openly steal it.

      1. Just re-calibrate the dominion voting machines. It’s not like it’s hard to do. R votes are 0.75 and D votes are 1.25. Round up to an integer for the totals.

It’s not like the machines will be allowed to be examined. After all, Mitch and 90% of the GOPe want the elections to be won by the marxist party.

        1. In the General that was the plan all along. Just run the machines and declare Biden winning in those States once the polls closed. You could literally see the pain on Cavuto’s face when FL and OH had huge Trump leads, and they couldn’t call PA and MI and GA and WI as soon as the polls closed.

Bartiromo was asking over and over when they would declare FL and OH for Trump and Cavuto was getting really angry.

No one expected Trump to turn out 75-80 Million real people to vote for him.

            1. I told everyone I could and showed up with my family members eligible to vote. So I did my part. One can never be sure until it happens though.

              I wasn’t surprised though.

              1. Yea, I wasn’t sure, just thought it more likely than not.

It did seem evident though when people will spend the night in a freezing cold line just to get into a rally.

  3. Will the United States go missing this week, or fight its way out of the chaos and darkness?

    Who cares?

I’m an American, not a United Statesian. I want my country back. I don’t give a flying fuck if the Union survives getting it back or not.

Conduct yourself with the merest modicum of decorum, courtesy, and respect and you'll be fine. Pick pointless squabbles with other commenters, fling provocative personal insults, issue threats, or annoy the host (me) and...you won't.

Should you find yourself sanctioned after running afoul of the CF comments policy as stated and feel you have been wronged, please download and complete the Butthurt Report form below in quadruplicate; retain one copy for your personal records and send the others to the email address posted in the right sidebar.

Please refrain from whining, sniveling, and/or bursting into tears and waving your chubby fists around in frustrated rage, lest you suffer an aneurysm or stroke unnecessarily. Your completed form will be reviewed and your complaint addressed whenever management feels like getting around to it. Thank you.
