The CF comments section is pretty free-form and rough and tumble; tolerance level for rowdiness and misbehavior is fairly high here, but is NOT without limit.

The logic of the mask.
It protects you.
No, it’s too porous to stop the virus going in.
Well, but it stops you from spitting out loogies laden with Covid cooties.
Perhaps, but then it traps them next to your face. Which mean you breathe them back in and get sick. Then breathe the virus back out through the mask.
But at least you don’t spread loogie cooties.
But as soon as my moisture dries I breathe out the virus anyway.
BUT IT DOESN’T COME OUT IN YOUR SPIT!!

A mask is a filter. A filter capable of trapping a virus requires a minimum pressure differential to move air through the filtering medium. The more air to be moved, the greater the differential must be. Creating the differential requires power.
Humans do not have enough lung power to create the differential required for more than a few seconds. And this is why no mask is made to filter a virus. It cannot be done unless you wear a powered filtration device.
When you breathe out you push the mask away from your face. If you had enough lung power to push air through a filter that would trap the virus, it would have to be strapped to your face with force greater than you can withstand. Or, you could glue it on…
And one only need to visit the best medical mask manufacturer’s website to find that their medical grade masks are not used for filtering any virus. They will not, they cannot if they are to be worn by humans.
