Thanks to an astute suggestion from Barry that I admit had never even occurred to me, plus some clever follow-up sleuthing by SteveF, hopefully our annoying spate of comment-spam has been firmly brought to heel at last. So with that, comment moderation has now been rescinded, hopefully for good. Thanks to both of ya’s for the assist, fellas.
NOTE: A certain number of links embedded in any comment—four I believe it is, if I remember right—will still get you automagickally dumped into the moderation queue pending approval, which I promise SteveF or myself will get on just as quick as he/I possibly can, pas de sweat.
Actually, it’s two. IMO, causing more pain for you since two links is really not a spammer indicator. I’d suggest three as the minimum. I’m pretty sure that is a setting you can adjust. And not many of us are going to put up three links at once or so close together as to trip the moderation q.
I just checked, and it’s set to four or more, which is how I remember setting it up long ago. But you’re right, I’ve seen it blow some guiltless commenter into moderation purgatory for two links on quite a few occasions. Got no idea why that should be; actually, it SHOULDN’T be. I think I’m gonna try bumping it up to five or six and see how that affects things, or if it does. Mayhap that four is an old setting held over somehow in the blog comments preferences from the WP install that was hacked, then nuked and paved over a few years back, and the new install is confused by it. Later on, one of you guys should try posting two links, then three, then four, then more and we’ll see what crops up when you do.
Okay, just changed the setting to “six or more.” Fire away whenever you feel like, I’ll be popping in and out to monitor the situation.
Alright, I’ll give it a try in a few. By the way, every time I have put more than one link in a comment I see the awaiting moderation notice. No problem, I just hate causing someone to have to rescue it.
I’ll make a comment in the Daily and we’ll see what happens…
OK, posted a 4 linker in the Daily and it received the approval notification. I’ll try another with just two links
