  1. I’m lonely. Where’d everybody go, and when are they coming back with ice cream?

  2. I see the ChiComs have told the Biden regime to pound sand on the whole climate change agenda. Did these idiots actually think China was going to agree to stop building power plants as rapidly as they can? China has never intended to follow through on any of the climate change stuff. It is just a useful club for negotiations.

Much of China is still quite poor by Western standards, and they intend to become not poor. And they are not about to let some leftist nonsense block their path to greater prosperity and economic power.

This also applies to the rest of the developing world. Sure, they will happily sign on to garbage like the Paris Treaty…as long as it offers them a hefty bribe and is completely toothless for their economies. Just a useful con to wrangle some more cash out of Uncle Sucker and the idiot Greens. They would all happily live just as energy-intensive and resource-consuming a lifestyle as the richest Americans, if they could. Pretending to be conerned about the environment is just a ploy to sucker gullible Westerners.

    1. The dynamics in China are even worse than that. Today there was a discussion (I think on Newsmax) with Gordon Chang. According to him, which jibes with other things I’ve read and seen, is that Xi admires Mao unqualifiedly.

He is intent on his 5 Year Plans and Industrialization of China. Not for any altruistic idea like making Chinese People rich. Like Mao, it’s all about him being Dictator of the most Powerful Nation On Earth. Like every Emperor of the Middle Kingdom, he believes only that He is Emperor of the Kingdom that stands above Man and between everyone else and Heaven. The Middle Kingdom.

If he has to make everyone else in China slaves to do that he will, but having many electrical plants will make him Supreme Emperor of the Middle Kingdom.

To understand China one must understand the Ultimate Sociopaths that always end up in control there when Marxism meets Chinese Xenophobia and Chinese Supremacy.

      1. The whole mandatory ‘Xi Thought’ classes do have a very Mao vibe to them, don’t they? So far Xi has not done anything as crazy as the Great Leap Forward, but there is plenty of time for something of equivalent lunacy to happen on Xi’s watch.

I agree that Xi is not personally interested in improving the lives of average Chinese citizens out of the goodness of his heart. But a prosperous growing China makes him more powerful and enables his ambitions (military spending, space spending, etc.) for national influence and glory. He certainly does not seem to be opposed to economic improvement for the average person just out of general hatred for humanity, like Western Greens are. So the average Chinese may benefit as a byproduct of Xi’s ambitions.

If they become a hindrance to Xi’s ambitions, they will be crushed. But is that really any different in the US or the rest of the west these days? Covid lockdowns, green new deals, critical race theory, and a whole lot more are certainly doing a ton of damage to huge numbers of people.

  3. Now Israel’s head of the Covid response effort is publicly talking about preparing to give everyone a 4th shot of the mRNA juice. Man, those goal posts are moving fast enough now that SpaceX better watch out for collisions in orbit.

  4. An update on mask in the communist republic of Mecklenburg County NC.

Yesterday I went to two places, a grocery (chain) that had a sign out front noting that masks are required. I went on in, maybe 10% of the customers were wearing a mask. All the employee’s did of course. All though they were wearing them in a number of fashionable ways, on the chin, under the nose, etc.

Late in the evening I visited the wal mart which previously had a big sign notifying you of the mask requirement, but upon entry it was at most half masked. Then the sign disappeared. Now after a week or more sans sign, the sign is back. Still, I went in unmasked and no problem. Not even a person handing out masks. But, the proportion of masked was much higher, probably 75%. I’m guessing this has something to do with the late evening crowd but cannot be sure. It was predominately black folks, and they seem to have been frightened more than the average. I know the black church nearby still has outdoor services and drive in services.

I still think the compliance is much lower than before.

    1. Someone is having a Moving sale nearby. They put the small stuff in the carport and are asking people to drop the money in through the mail slot.

My guess is they’re Fundamentalist Covidians.

  5. Middle School had a chance for the kids to read The Tell Tale Heart. They skipped it and read Monster instead. (Look up the 2021 movie to see The Woke).

I read Poe with my middle schooler. Then I found two movies to show him. One loosely based on Poe but not quite good. Then I found Vincent Price in a movie where he did 4 Poe stories solo. Brilliant.

As far as Monster goes, I will have him watch Twelve Angry Men. It’s still liberal but at least it’s old skool liberal and stays within the American Way of Justice.

    1. Stalin and Mao both had massive Famines.

Sometimes regimes just get more hard line during Famines.

The Army must get fed though.

      1. True enough, it doesn’t always end in overthrow of the rulers. But it always creates problems for the ruling class. China is quite different now than in Mao times, but still, without weapons it’s pretty difficult.

  6. I see the media/political class is setting up for another round of “debt limit showdown” theater. Lots of articles about how dangerous it is to “risk” a default, speculation about what will happen, etc. It is all BS. We have all seen this dog and pony show multiple times at this point, we all know how it will go, we all know how it will end. Lots and lots of bloviating for the cameras, members of congress striking fake-heroic poses as they pretend this isn’t all scripted with a known outcome, a couple “mavericks” like Manchin will supposedly threaten to shut it all down but of course won’t actually do so, etc. Once there has been enough posturing and fake drama for a couple news cycles, the usual deal will be cut and trillions more in fake money will be printed out of nothing. Cycle repeats.

This is almost as fake as Biden’s big fake announcement of a “bold new approach” to Covid that is, in fact, the exact same approach but with 100% more totalitarianism. Who have they got scripting this stuff, third graders? It isn’t even entertaining anymore.

    1. They don’t even care enough anymore to make it entertaining.

Recall how absolutely vacant Soviet society had become towards the end. All passion for anything except the vodka bottle had disappeared and even the vodka was simply a way to get to unconsciousness quicker.

    2. Who have they got scripting this stuff, third graders?

Nah, 3rd graders would be a lot smarter at it.

  7. It’s a shameful evening for sure.
Hotels are just full everywhere between here and Richmond. So, out on business I find myself unable to get a local room in Virginia, so head south.

And now I find myself in Durham. I even rode on dook St. Durham, home of New Jersey’s university, dook. As I said, shameful. I’ve driven through here many times, passing by on the interstate. But stop? No, only once in my life and that was age 6. My dad took me to watch Carolina stomp dook at their place, 50 zip.

    I feel dirty.

Pick pointless squabbles with other commenters, fling provocative personal insults, issue threats, or annoy the host (me) and...you won't.

Should you find yourself sanctioned after running afoul of the CF comments policy as stated and feel you have been wronged, please download and complete the Butthurt Report form below in quadruplicate; retain one copy for your personal records and send the others to the email address posted in the right sidebar.

Please refrain from whining, sniveling, and/or bursting into tears and waving your chubby fists around in frustrated rage, lest you suffer an aneurysm or stroke unnecessarily. Your completed form will be reviewed and your complaint addressed whenever management feels like getting around to it. Thank you.
