Well, after some 65 years of weather study*, I see something that I don’t recall ever seeing before. Normally we expect the coldest weather in the mountains in western NC / eastern Tennessee. Notice in the hot off the press that temperatures east and west of the Appalachians are lower than in the mountains.
Odd!

*begining at age 7 (1960) when I tied a stool in the top of a pine tree in order to have a nice seat for my weather observations. I had on hand there a thermometer, barometer, weather vane for wind direction, and a funky hygrometer for humidity (catgut as I recall)
