One of the effects of the ChiCom market manipulations of their currency and labor markets was that as manufacturing moved there their currency did not appreciate and the cost of their labor did not rise.
In order to do that they had to buy dollars and sell Yuan. All those dollars piling up in their reserves was used to buy US Treasury Securities.
It was an Artificial Demand for US Treasuries that wouldn’t exist without their market manipulation.
Of course, the secondary effect of this meant that the US Government could issue more and more US Treasuries and run higher and higher deficits without interest on the Borrowing rising. Artificial Demand soaked up the Supply that instead would have raised the price in order to attract real Buyers.
Thus our Federal Debt Levels have risen to amounts that were impossible under a Free Market. Had the interest rates risen then the borrowing would have had to be curtailed and the spending increases slowed or stopped.
This of course pleased the ChiComs, who saw us going deeper and deeper into debt, to THEM, while at the same time our manufacturing base and the jobs that went with it moved over there. Our Politicians loved it because ever more spending meant ever more Grift and Boondoggles and Skimming off the top for THEM. Add in the fact that they knew how this worked so it was a No Brainer Trade to undertake and invest their own money, and their cronies too.
