BREAKING: Hack politician emits mealy-mouthed doubletalk, SAVES AMERICA!!!
No mention of whether he meant to save God Damned America, or just the US of KKK-A, but save it he has, to judge from the swooning Barrackolytes, who are leaving forehead-shaped dents in sidewalks all across the nation as they slump to the pavement in deluded rapture:
Alas, I cannot give a more considered response right now as I have to get on the road. But I do want to say that this searing, nuanced, gut-wrenching, loyal, and deeply, deeply Christian speech is the most honest speech on race in America in my adult lifetime. It is a speech we have all been waiting for for a generation. Its ability to embrace both the legitimate fears and resentments of whites and the understandable anger and dashed hopes of many blacks was, in my view, unique in recent American history.
And it was a reflection of faith – deep, hopeful, transcending faith in the promises of the Gospels.
And in moonbat conspiracy theories about AIDS and 9/11, too. Sorry to piss in your cornflakes, Andrew, but why don’t you just start a new Obama-based religion and have done with it, for Christ’s Barrack’s sake.
This speech will be plenty enough to reassure liberals who, in truth, weren’t all that bothered by the Wright controversy to begin with, for the most part agreeing with his hateful anti-American rantings as we all know they do. For the rest of us, there’s nothing whatever about this speech that ought to come as any sort of surprise. It’s just the usual maneuvering from a political animal trying to avoid getting caught in a cynical trap of his own devising. Despite the breathless, sycophantic moaning of the Barrackadupes, it’s politics as usual with this guy; now as ever, there’s no real difference between his own machinations and those of the Clintons.
Meanwhile, the hasty fumigation continues apace at Obama’s website and in the liberal media*, which is acknowledgment in itself of just how toxic Wright’s hate speech is and always has been.
Anybody who can’t see through this perfectly typical huckster’s charade by now is either so desperate to BELIEVE! as to allow themselves to be willingly hoodwinked — a curious state of affairs for people who pride themselves on their jaundiced sophistication — or just plain stupid. Or both, seeing as how we’ve had ample demonstration throughout this annoyingly neverending primary season that they’re hardly mutually exclusive.
An Allahpundit-style exit question: ten years from now, will we see astonished liberals finally admitting that the scales have at last fallen from their eyes, and that the Obamachrist is indeed exactly what some of us have been saying he is all along, as they’ve been forced to lately with the Clintons?
*On the way in to the office this morning, I heard the NPR headline reader opining that Obama’s speech was necessitated by “inflammatory remarks” by Obama’s minister…and by Geraldine Ferraro’s equally “inflammatory” statement that he’s where he is in the Dem nomination contest because of his race. No mention whatsoever, of course, of just what it is the good Reverend might’ve said that caused such a silly and hysterical hullaballoo. One could easily be forgiven, if all one knew of the world was what NPR told one about it, for thinking that it was mostly that racist Ferraro bitch that started all this. No mention, either, of the simple fact that what Ferraro said was, in essence, correct. Good job, fellas; that (holy) water ain’t gonna just carry itself, you know.
Update! Stanley Kurtz nails it down:
Obama’s speech was thoughtful, powerful, and to many will be persuasive. But on behalf of what exactly has this persuasive power been deployed? We’re being asked to adopt an attitude of relative complacency toward a man who takes just about the most radical and profoundly troubling stance toward his own country that an American can take.
Precisely.
