Killing or capturing al Qaeda leaders discussed; liberal Democrats OUTRAGED!

July 13th, 2009

So what was the CIA program the Democrats thought they’d be able to use to provide cover for Pinocchiolosi prior to this week’s hearing into her lies about the CIA? Well, have a look; it’s now clear just what it was they were so upset about:

WASHINGTON — A secret Central Intelligence Agency initiative terminated by Director Leon Panetta was an attempt to carry out a 2001 presidential authorization to capture or kill al Qaeda operatives, according to former intelligence officials familiar with the matter.

OHMYGODOHMYGODOHMYGOD! This is just too shocking for words! No wonder the Dems wanted it stopped. Not that it ever actually got started in the first place:

According to current and former government officials, the agency spent money on planning and possibly some training. It was acting on a 2001 presidential legal pronouncement, known as a finding, which authorized the CIA to pursue such efforts. The initiative hadn’t become fully operational at the time Mr. Panetta ended it.

Well, good. The Democrats would’ve been unable to bear it if so much as a hair on the heads of those poor victims of US oppression was harmed.

Say, how’s that all-out effort to get bin Laden — the one these jackasses were braying so loud about back when they still had hopes of forcing a defeat in Iraq — going these days, anyway?

We can all rest a lot easier now that America’s defense is in the hands of these über-partisan assclowns. Playing politics with national security? It’s what they are. It’s what they do.

A lot of us have long enjoyed tweaking liberals by claiming they’re actually rooting for the terrorists, a jibe that derives much of its power to annoy them from being so over the top. But think about it: if they were actually, objectively on the side of the terrorists and not just reflexively opposed to anything us Wingnutz™ might support, what exactly would they be doing differently? If they’re not actively on the other side, as Reynolds always says, how on earth could you tell?

Please tell me it's still our policy to capture or kill terrorists.

Sorry, Kevin, it's not. Apparently we're not even supposed to think about it without going to Congress, first.
