BITTERLY CLINGING TO GUN CONTROL

“But just because you have an individual right does not mean that the state or local government can’t constrain the exercise of that right…”–B. Hussein Obama

Under that logic, local governments could choose whether or not to charge black people a poll tax.

Obama believes that Roe vs. Wade is a sacred, inviolable part of the Constitution–so much so, that in his mind, abortion is protected nationwide and even after birth takes place. He thinks terrorists have an absolute, unquestionable Privacy Right to call 1-800-JIHAD unmolested.

But “the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed” is merely a fungible, optional helpful suggestion, subject to local moods and whims.

Meanwhile, on the crime front, Obama called his friend’s Bill Ayer’s book on freeing young super-predators “a timely and searing account”! Another autobiography, maybe.

John Lott:

In fact, Obama has a long history of supporting city gun bans. The Associated Press described his vote on a gun-control bill in 2004: “He also opposed letting people use a self-defense argument if charged with violating local handgun bans by using weapons in their homes. The bill was a reaction to a Chicago-area man who, after shooting an intruder, was charged with a handgun violation.”

No major-party presidential nominee has ever had as strong and consistent an anti-gun record as Obama. Here is a politician who supported a ban on handguns in 1996, backed a ban on the sale of all semiautomatic guns in 1998 (which would encompass most guns sold in the country), and advocated banning gun sales within five miles of a school or park in 2004 (a virtual ban on all gun stores). He also served on the board of the Joyce Foundation, the largest private funder of anti-gun research in the country.

This evidence should be sufficient, but I have yet another reason to be skeptical. I knew Obama during the mid-1990s, when we were both at the University of Chicago Law School. Indeed, when I introduced myself to him, he said, “Oh, you are the gun guy.”

I responded, “Yes, I guess so.” His response, as I recall it, was, “I don’t believe that people should be able to own guns.”

Not only did Obama flip-flop on the recent landmark DC gun case, he flip-flopped on flip-flopping.

Instead, the clarity of John McCain:

“Today’s decision is a landmark victory for Second Amendment freedom in the United States. For this first time in the history of our Republic, the U.S. Supreme Court affirmed that the Second Amendment right to keep and bear arms was and is an individual right as intended by our Founding Fathers. I applaud this decision as well as the overturning of the District of Columbia’s ban on handguns and limitations on the ability to use firearms for self-defense.

“Unlike Senator Obama, who refused to join me in signing a bipartisan amicus brief, I was pleased to express my support and call for the ruling issued today. Today’s ruling in District of Columbia v. Heller makes clear that other municipalities like Chicago that have banned handguns have infringed on the constitutional rights of Americans. Unlike the elitist view that believes Americans cling to guns out of bitterness, today’s ruling recognizes that gun ownership is a fundamental right — sacred, just as the right to free speech and assembly.

“This ruling does not mark the end of our struggle against those who seek to limit the rights of law-abiding citizens. We must always remain vigilant in defense of our freedoms. But today, the Supreme Court ended forever the specious argument that the Second Amendment did not confer an individual right to keep and bear arms.”

You can’t even list all the gun control Obama has supported; trigger locks, criminalizing the purchase of more than one gun in a month’s time, even banning sportsmen from buying shotgun pellets at a competition to be used at that competition.

No wonder Obama screams at a crowd, repeatedly claiming he will not ban guns. He’s trying to convince them by mere repitition of something he doesn’t himself believe.

And even if the leopard somehow did change his spots and go against a lifetime record of banning guns, any judges he would appoint would overturn the recent court ruling in a heartbeat, doing the dirty work for him.

We worked too long and fought too hard to secure this Constitution to let some socialist joker waltz through it with a bottle of White-Out and an eraser, editing out the Rights he despises.

Vote–and contribute–like your freedoms depend on it. They do.

I intend to buy myself a new gun in November. Not sure which one yet, but something. I might buy two if Obama wins and assuming I can come up with the cash.

I urge everyone to do the same.

It's a lot harder for them to take it away from you after the fact than it is for them to tell you can't have it in the first place.

As for the rest of my collection?

Let's see, under Obama-logic, the First Amendment would apply in some regions and not in others. Free speech could be a harmful weapon in the wrong hands, you know. Give me a break, you commie, freedom-fearing, illuminati "professors"!

even banning sportsmen from buying shotgun pellets at a competition to be used at that competition.

You see, he's a Constitutional lawyer.

The Second Amendment says you have the right to bear arms. It doesn't say anything about the right for your arms to be loaded.

Heaven forbid we ascribe a natural right of self-defense to the Second Amendment. That would be so typical of us uneducated hicks.

Some of the Founding Fathers opposed the Bill of Rights for just this reason. They were afraid that if these rights were explicitly numerated, then all rights not enumerated would revert to the State.

Obama is going to uphold your Second Amendment rights. He's just going to use legal chicanery to make them hollow and meaningless.

The Second Amendment of the Obamanation allows you brandish an unloaded weapon in a peaceful and non-violent manner (to show your support of Him of course). It will not allow you the right of self-defense. That is the sole province of the State.
