“If they mean to have a war, let it begin here”

January 9th, 2013

A declaration of independence from the Obama tyranny, by Bob Owens. Naturally.

Not one step more. That is what I pledge to my children.

I will accept no executive orders that reclassifies the most common and popular sporting rifle in America into a de facto “machine gun” just because a narcissist son of a drunken communist claims it is his right to do so.

I will not accept a ban on any firearms, or magazines from a self-absorbed Congress or any other imagined superior.

I will not give up one more cartridge, one more inch, or one more right so that statists in either party can constrict our liberties yet again in the false claim of safety, a claim that only serves their desire for absolute power without consequence.

Captain John Parker was a veteran of the French and Indian War when he ordered his troops of the Lexington Militia—not Minutemen, mind you, but the normal regular militia—to muster on Lexington Green. Parker was dying of advanced tuberculosis; he’d be dead within six months. His orders to his men as he faced 700 approaching regulars with less than 70 men are recorded for posterity. “Stand your ground. Don’t fire unless fired upon, but if they mean to have a war, let it begin here.”

I can chart the path forward for no other man, but I will contest to their last breaths the desires of petty tyrants and their co-conspirators if they cross this red line that determines that the soap box, ballot box, and jury box have failed, and that the cartridge box is our last resort.

I will go to my death if this time comes to pass, orphaning and widowing those I hold most dear. For that I am truly regretful, just as I regret the lives I must attempt to cut short so that my children will breathe free. I know that in my sights will be another mother’s son or daughter, likely with children of their own. But they will have made their choice of whom to serve, and I have made mine.

A lot of us will be right there with ya, Bob. To quote another fiercely independent American who refused to roll over and play dead when the fecal matter hit the rotary impeller: let’s roll.

Y’know, the ongoing attempts at “civility” from pundits ostensibly on our side, those generally considered to be more serious-minded and “reasonable” and such, are really beginning to amuse me. They’re still out there nattering about the dismal details of the next round of fiscal-cliff theater or who might be Obama’s nominee to run the Imperial Ministry of this or that as if any of it mattered a whit now, and as if they had a hope in hell of influencing the outcome with their polite, respectful talky-talk anyway. “Why, forgive me for saying so, gentle reader, but it does begin to seem as if this Obama chap might be some sort of (hrumph-hrumph!) radical liberal or something! No, not a socialist or neo-Marxist; perish the thought. But I can almost believe that he in fact might harbor some wish to, je ne sais quoi, transform America entirely or some such! Quelle horreur!

What useless crap, all part and parcel of the DC circle-jerk. In all likelihood, if things continue on as they have been, we’re going to be shooting at these people before very many more years have passed; nobody is happy about that, but it’s the simple truth. So why the hell would anyone bother with being polite to them at this point? New category for thoughts on such dangerous ideas, inspired by Bob’s courageous and unflinching discussion of them in an age of Imperial enemy’s lists, secret police, Ogulags, and Dept of Ed assault teams: This Far, No Further.

Update! BillyB recommends we read this, from a former SEAL who still takes his oath to the Constitution as seriously as it merits. He’s right; it is excellent.

Why is this essay titled Dear Mr. Security Agent, when it dwells mainly upon the media and coastal-dwelling urban liberals and their utopian belief in the benefits of new gun control laws in the United States? Mr. Security Agent will protest that he is no liberal, he is ex-military, he’s a cop, he’s a fed—he’s one of the good guys! He took the same oath to defend the Constitution that you did, Buster! He doesn’t need any lectures on defending the Constitution! So why single him out in this essay?

Why? Because liberal bliss-ninnies in San Francisco and Boston are not issued flash-bang grenades, battering rams, body armor, flex-cuffs by the gross, and MP-5 submachine guns. No, the dirty end of the confiscation job will fall upon the shoulders of sworn law enforcement officers and gold-badged federal law enforcement agents. The LEOs and the FLEAs. That’s you, Mr. Security Agent.

We really don’t want a problem with you, believe me. And there is no reason for us to have a problem, because we both can read the Constitution and the Bill of Rights, and neither of us requires a team of black-robed mystics to translate its plain English into Newspeak for improved comprehension. You and I both understand what “the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed” means, without requiring five out of nine politically appointed Supremes to tell us that it does not mean what it very plainly states in black and white.

Now, as long as Mr. Security Agent remembers that he swore the same oath that millions of Americans swore, to defend the Constitution against all enemies, foreign and domestic, he will certainly not permit himself to take part in gun confiscation raids. But if he does, well, let’s be frank: tens of millions of Americans would then consider him to be the very domestic enemy that they swore to defend the Constitution against.

But Mr. Bracken—I can hear it now—this is the United States of America! Abuses like the ones you hypothesize simply cannot happen here. Gun registration does not always lead to confiscation, much less to extermination. We are not Germany or Russia or any of those other countries you mentioned. This is the 21st Century. America is different, and it can’t happen here. You must lay your irrational fears aside and place your trust in your government. It cannot, it will not, ever turn in the dark and tyrannical direction that you imagine.

Oh, really? Google “wrong-address SWAT raids” and read any of the dozens of articles you will find. We should trust the government not to abuse us even further, once we are disarmed and helpless to resist them? Thanks, but I don’t think so.

The yellow warning line will be crossed with national gun registration laws, including laws forbidding private gun sales without government permission. When that law passes, millions of Americans will feel that they have been pushed directly to the edge of the abyss above the mass graves of history. Defenders of the Second Amendment know what happened in Turkey, the USSR, Germany, China, and other nations that fell under totalitarian rule: in every case a necessary preliminary step on the road to genocide was national gun registration, followed by confiscation. The Jewish survivors of the Nazi Holocaust say, “Never again!” And so do we.

This is another long, thoughtful, and thoroughly chilling essay by a man who knows whereof he speaks, and you need to read every word of it; Bracken has all the bases covered very well indeed, and I can’t recommend it enough. The rest of the site looks good too, with loads of good, thought-provoking writing and useful info, so into the bookmarks and Ye Olde Blogrolle goes WRSA.

Grim reality update! Will you be intimidated?

As a young boy I was shot by a man whose clear intent was to kill me as I had deliberately, by throwing broken bricks at him, interrupted his attempt to rape a young teen-aged girl, allowing her to escape. To this day I can still see the evil in his face and the sun glistening off the barrel of the pistol he aimed in my direction. As I turned and began to run away he fired hitting me in back. The bullet entering my chest felt as if someone had hit me with baseball bat followed immediately by an excruciating burning sensation as I fell to the ground from the impact. Perhaps it was the adrenaline, but I was able scramble to my feet and run as far as I could until finally passing out from the shock and loss of blood. Fortunately, someone came to my rescue and took me to a military hospital and the first step on my journey to the United States.

According to the current incarnation of the American left, who traffic constantly in victimhood and noble intentions, I should be in the vanguard of the mandatory gun control and confiscation movement. That somehow it was the inanimate object this soldier was holding and not him that was responsible for the attempt on my life or to ignore the fact that his mindset was such he would have used any weapon at hand to accomplish the same goal.

On the contrary, I own a handgun today because of the experience of coming face to face with the evil that permeates some men’s souls. I and the girl I rescued were defenseless. There were no police or armed citizens around and the death of another homeless and unknown boy and girl, buried in an unmarked mass grave, would have been just another easily ignored casualty of the post-War period. I was determined that I would never again face a similar circumstance. I have had in my possession firearms for virtually my entire life, as I have been fortunate to live in the one nation on earth that has embedded in its founding document the right to bear arms.

Today, I am, along with a vast majority of my fellow citizens, being made the scapegoat for the failed policies of the so-called progressives — whether it is the inability of society to deal with extreme psychopaths or the mentally deranged, because the left insists they are entitled to the same rights as other citizens, or the never-ending attempt to rehabilitate criminals incapable of rehabilitation. Consistent with their inability to ever admit a mistake, the left and much of the Democratic Party instead focuses on symbolism over substance and the path of least resistance — going after the law-abiding hard working people who are the backbone of America.

But the motivation is more insidious than that.

It certainly is. Read it–and take heart.

Don't know if you've seen this, but I thought it was awesome. Exactly what I would write ... if I could write well.

I think it's important to remember all of Capt. Park's command. We cannot fire the first shot. That gives them what they want-an excuse to impose martial law.
If, however, confiscations are ordered, all bets are off. Give 'em the ammo first.

If we do not choose this as hill to die on, the left will choose a ditch for us to be murdered in.

Just what the doctor ordered, especially the essay by Bracken. Thanks for the heads-up, sir.
