As fossil fuels go, it just might be the most “problematic” of them all.<\/p>\n
The $5.25 Per Gallon Canary in the Coal Mine<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n
There may not be a\u00a0shortage<\/em>\u00a0of diesel fuel\u00a0yet<\/em>\u00a0but there is something\u00a0else<\/em>\u00a0that amounts to the same:<\/p>\n
Unaffordable<\/em>\u00a0diesel.<\/p>\n
A gallon currently sells for about $5.25 per gallon on average.<\/p>\n
Interestingly, this is about $2 more per gallon than the current cost of a gallon of regular unleaded. The Biden Thing has succeeded in temporarily tamping down the cost of the latter by draining the Strategic Petroleum Reserve \u2013 but diesel prices have not come down appreciably from their spring\/summer high of about $5.70 per gallon.<\/p>\n
Diesel cost less than half as much two years ago \u2013 just before the Biden Thing was selected president.<\/p>\n
If you have a diesel-powered car (such as the excoriated-anathematized VW Jettas, Golfs and Beetles equipped with the TDI engines you can\u2019t buy anymore) with a 15 gallon tank, you\u2019re currently paying about\u00a0$80<\/em>\u00a0to fill \u2018er up.<\/p>\n
That\u2019s not very affordable.<\/p>\n
But not many people are driving diesel-powered cars \u2013 chiefly because the car companies haven\u2019t been\u00a0selling<\/em>\u00a0them for about seven years now, ever since the federal government sicced itself on VW\u00a0for<\/em>\u00a0selling them. In italics to emphasize the true nature of VW\u2019s \u201ccrime,\u201d which was not \u201ccheating\u201d on government \u201cemissions\u201d certification tests anymore than Matt Strickland\u2019s restaurant, Gourmeltz, was\u00a0Hut! Hut! Hutted!<\/em>\u00a0the other day<\/a> for supposedly selling alcoholic beverages without an ABC permit.<\/p>\n
Alternatives always present problems for those who do not want others to\u00a0have<\/em>\u00a0alternatives.<\/p>\n
And now, they don\u2019t.<\/p>\n
Diesel-powered vehicles are\u00a0problem<\/em>\u00a0vehicles \u2013 from the point-of-view of those pushing the electrification of vehicles. Not only because they go farther than gas-powered vehicles and\u00a0\u00a0much<\/em>\u00a0farther than electric vehicles \u2013 but particularly because it is possible to keep them going\u00a0independently of a centrally controlled distribution apparatus<\/em>.<\/p>\n
Gas-powered vehicles require gasoline to keep on going. If there\u2019s none at the pump, it is hard to refine your own. Gas does not store very well for very long, either.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
Actually, it used to, but not since FederalGovCo foisted the ethanol-based shite on us all, which worthless crap will reliably convert itself into so much sugary glop in about, oh, an hour and a half or thereabouts.<\/p>\n
So even if you thought ahead and stored 50 gallons in a drum for just-in-case, its shelf-life is limited.<\/p>\n
Electricity is hard to generate independently in the quantity needed by electric cars. Even on 120v grid power, it takes a day or more to instill a charge in a 400-800 volt electric car battery. If the grid goes down, it will take much longer \u2013 unless you have a seriously mighty solar array on your roof or on your backyard.<\/p>\n
Diesel, on the other hand, stores almost indefinitely. And many diesel engines can burn\u00a0bio-diesel<\/a>, which is \u201cdiesel\u201d not made from petroleum. It is made from vegetable oil, animal fats and restaurant grease. In other words,\u00a0almost anyone can make it<\/em>.<\/p>\n
Themselves.<\/p>\n
This presents a dangerous alternative to those pushing \u201celectrification,\u201d which is really more about\u00a0centralization<\/em>.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
