We are approaching President Ronald Reagan\u2019s 113th birthday, falling next week on February 6. Two days before his birthday in 1988, Reagan delivered remarks at the National Prayer Breakfast in Washington, DC. (Editor\u2019s Note: The 2024 National Prayer Breakfast convened earlier this morning in the nation\u2019s capital.).<\/p>\n

He told attendees that he had \u201clong been unable to understand the atheist in this world of so much beauty.\u201d With a touch of mischief in his voice, he added: \u201cI\u2019ve had an unholy desire to invite some atheists to a dinner and then serve the most fabulous gourmet dinner that has ever been concocted, and \u2014 after dinner \u2014 ask them if they believe there was a cook.\u201d<\/p>\n

The audience responded with extended laughter and applause.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Heh. As the kids say nowadays, it\u2019s funny \u2018cause it\u2019s true. I had forgotten Reagan\u2019s birthday was the day after mine (I\u2019ll be 64 this coming Monday, which I can scarcely believe). Of course, I seem to be forgetting all kinds of things as time marches ever on.<\/p>\n
