Medvedev’s tough talk is merely shit-posting on a diplomatic scale.
Him saying it is not what the troops on the line are saying. Cell phone intercepts from the conscripts paint an entirely different story.
And the actual front lines, from neutral third-party (non-NATO and non-Russia buddies) observations, tell a far different tale than Medvedev’s bluster.
Putin just sacked another Ukrainian General-in-command, which is what? the eighth? tenth? (I’ve frankly lost track, and interest.) more? total of those he’s shit-canned since February last year…?!? This is not an army that’s “winning” anywhere either.
Call me when the Russians are moving in a forward gear again.
Ukraine is fielding second-line NATO equipment, Russia is hauling legacy shit from the 1950s out of museums and scrap heaps to refurb.
I told people from the get-go, both sides can lose, and Russia can’t win in any meaningful way, ever.
That does not, ergo, equate to Ukraine ever “winning”. (Anyone stumped by this concept should Google pictures from France after either World War to see how your enemy can lose, and yet you can still not be “winning”.)
The best Ukraine can hope for is to push Russia back to actual Russia, including out of Crimea, and make the lemon not worth the squeeze for the next century or two for a fifth Russian invasion of Ukrainian territory.
The best Russia can hope for is having to genocidally kill every living Ukrainian, while suffering a decades-long guerrilla war (ten or twenty times worse than Afghanistan, which kicked their asses and toppled the Soviet Union), even if they marched into Kiev and shot Zelensky tomorrow, as if they even could.
Russia has no winning exit strategy except to quit, and Ukraine has everything to gain by fighting until the very end. That’s what “existential conflict” MEANS, FFS. Victory, or destruction as a nation.
But let’s grant all of BCE’s points:

Yea. Just as I have said from day one. The russians are a turd world country with a turd world conscripted army.
When the USA went to a war of choice in Iraq, we had to move every single man and equipment plus the entire supply chain 7000+ miles to get there. The f’ing russians just drive across their own border. And here we are 1.5+ years later and the russians are still dying all the while trying to fight and invade a country 1/5 their size in population. They can’t even handle that.
I’m not for lifting a hand to help, sending a dime, or any equipment to the Ukraine simply because their government is corrupt to the core and ours is even more so. That fact doesn’t make the russians one bit more competent, because they are what they have always been, incompetents, thugs, and murderers.
