“The illusion of freedom will continue as long as it’s profitable to continue the illusion. "I predict that the Bush administration will be seen by freedom-wishing Americans a generation or two hence as the hinge on the cell door locking up our freedom. When my children are my age, they will not be free in any recognizably traditional American meaning of the word. I’d tell them to emigrate, but there’s nowhere left to go. I am left with nauseating near-conviction that I am a member of the last generation in the history of the world that is minimally truly free."

"If the laws of God and men, are therefore of no effect, when the magistracy is left at liberty to break them; and if the lusts of those who are too strong for the tribunals of justice, cannot be otherwise restrained than by sedition, tumults and war, those seditions, tumults and wars, are justified by the laws of God and man."

He’s been in my prayers in recent months while he was in the hospital, but he did not reply to my emails or card so I figured he was too sick to do so. Thank you Barry for keeping us updated.
Sherman lived only a short distance from where my family lives, and we had made plans to meet up on my next visit, but unfortunately the COVID shut down & health issues prevented me from travelling… so we were still on, but postponed. I will visit his grave, instead, now.
Sherman was a gentleman online, and I think of him as a friend. I miss him.
Sad news indeed. Thanks for letting us know, SteveF.
RIP Ironbear. Great advocate for Liberty, Freedom, America, Texas/Oklahoma. You will be missed.
Ironbear was an American.
We have a shortage of those.
I’ve emailed some of Ironbear’s internet friends. If I missed anyone I apologize.
I spoke to Sherman’s house mate today after chasing his name down through the county tax records. I sent him a letter and he very kindly responded.
Sherman had lung cancer that had metastasized to the brain. Large mass in the brain which explains some of the delusional conversations I had with him on the phone. So, the questions I had are answered. I expressed my condolences to Sherman’s friend. I’ve offered any help I might provide but there isn’t much I can do from here. He is taking care of Ironbear’s dogs for the time being but will probably have to find new homes for them at some point. He asked if I had a good idea about where Ironbear might want his ashes spread. I told him not really, but I thought the back yard where he gardened would be a fine place. If anyone knows something that is significant let me know and I’ll pass it along. I mentioned the area he grew up in (dallas) and he knows about that.
That’s it. A chapter ends and sometimes it happens quickly. Those of us pushing into 60 and older should remember we are fortunate as most of humanity didn’t get the length or ease most of us have been blessed with.
Sherman was planning to come out to the NC coast this coming fall and visit at my house there. We didn’t make it, but I’ll drink a toast to an uncommon intellect and talent next time I’m there.
Thanks for the additional information, Barry. Cancer is a tough, tough problem and takes far too many. 🙁
Howdy Barry. Same screen name as on DP. Haven’t spoken to you or anyone else lately, or been very active at all since i lost my better half, but I’m glad I found this thread. Can’t thank you enuff for this info, even though it’s not pleasant. I’ve occasionally been trying to keep up at DP and others as well. Damn, I was awful fond of IB. Hate to see anyone have the “Big C”, ‘specially like that. Dammit, IB was a good man.
Hated to hear about Mike’s problems, too. Glad he’s back! Been keeping up with BCE and a couple others, but mostly layin’ low. Pass my regards to Mike as well, please.
Y’all take care.
Hey Patrad, long time. Sorry for your loss. We’re all getting up there and so, such is life. Let’s remember the Good about people as they lived and hope we can carry on in this world with heads held high that we did what we could to make it a better place. As Ironbear and others sure did.
Hi Patrad, It’s really good to hear from you. I’m sorry for your loss and know it takes a real toll on you.
Yea, Ironbear was a rare breed of American for sure.
2021 was a bad year in so many ways what with all the government crap and then having Mike fall ill and Ironbear fading away… I know it only gets worse as we age. Either we kick the bucket early or we lose people we care about.
Hang around and check in occasionally.
Thanks Kenny & Barry. Fully intend to. ‘Preciate the thoughts. Gonna attempt to get back into things as I can.
