Hope springs eternal, no matter how vain it be.
As Conservatives Shift From Opposing McCarthy to Holding His Feet to the Fire, Here are Five Promises He Needs to Keep
For America First patriots who opposed Kevin McCarthy’s ascension to Speaker of the House, Friday night was a loss. But to get there on the 15th vote, McCarthy had to make a lot of promises and concessions to the Freedom Caucus. Will he honor those commitments?
BWAAAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA. For the love of God, man, stop it, you’re killing me here.
Our role as patriots is to make certain he does and to call him out when he doesn’t. Unfortunately, the GOP failed miserably to stop the midterm steal in the Senate, so getting any legislation to Joe Biden’s desk will be very hard. Then, there’s the veto that the GOP cannot overcome. But they can still hold hearings. They can still use the power of the purse. McCarthy has moves that he and the GOP caucus can make.
To that end, here are five of the promises he made that need to be fulfilled.
Meh, didn’t read ’em. Not even slightly interested, plus I have many other more productive uses for my time, such as clipping my toenails or something.
Yea, what Mike said.
Fat chance in hell that McCarthy keeps any promise that doesn’t cost him dearly.
This is where McCarthy becomes Vinnie Barbarino.
Kev will you keep your commitments?
What? Who? Where?…
This is what Gaetz says they got from McCarthy in exchange for dropping their opposition.
They are good concessions. Should they actually get these. Despite my earlier reservations, Gaetz and the other 4-5 that were the last holdouts may just be able to hold McCarthy’s feet to the fire. I’ll go from zero to 20% faith in this happening.
Scroll down the article to the tweet:
Hold his feet to the fire with WHAT?!?
His sense of honor? >snicker<
Pictures of him naked with farm animals, midgets, and small children?
Threats that Gaetz will hold his breath until he turns blue?
We elect idiots, who pick a head idiot. Gaetz is trying to compete in a cannon contest with a .22 caliber mind.
Those “promises” are boob bait for the Bubbas. Nobody’s buying the bullshit anymore. Except Bubba Gaetz.
You might note that I didn’t “buy the bullshit” but gave it 20% chance of being followed through upon. Yesterday it was 0%.
Tomorrow it will probably be back at zero.
“Bubba” Gaetz?
Who is more likely to be effective, you or Gaetz?
Your only solution is to start shooting, but you’re not shooting. Not much of a solution then.
Until you start shooting, and lead a like minded band of resistance, I’ll at least acknowledge those that appear to be trying, like Gaetz. You can just pretend you are doing something.
Gaetz is selling a Potemkin Congress as the real thing.
Hope is nice, but it isn’t a plan.
And The System got us where we are now; it isn’t going to, nor designed to, get us back out.
TINVOWOOT.
Shooting isn’t my solution, and not one I’d wish for in any event, save one: the absolute last resort; but it is transparently the solution, because we’re far beyond anything less than that getting the job done.
That being the case, rip the band-aid off, and get it over with.
Everything else is like watching a loaded 18-wheeler slide downhill towards a cliff, while someone tries pathetically to push back against gravity to stop it.
Let us know when you start your “solution”, because until you do, Gaetz and those like him are all we have. Running him down when you’re not willing to do anything but talk/type is worse than just shutting up.
I’m not “hoping” for anything. And I’m quite sure if you took even a few minutes to study Gaetz, and how he takes no pac funding, you might realize you’re wrong. He’s not selling anything. He speaks pretty damn bluntly and plainly IMO.
Gaetz can’t do much on his own, but he is what he is and that’s a lot more than me or you tapping away at a keyboard.
People said the same thing when touting Neville Chamberlain’s “Peace In Our Time”. How’d that work out?
I have no doubt Gaetz did the best he could do.
Which is a bug, not a feature, and the exact heart of the problem.
My job isn’t to start the revolution.
That doesn’t therefore require me to shill for settling for getting ass-raped with lube instead of without it as being the same thing as being left completely alone, nor pretend that empty promises are anything but. If McCarthy was the kind of man to honor promises, he wouldn’t have needed to be stood up to in the first place. And there’s going to be nothing so pathetic as the whinging of The Quitters when all too soon those promises turn out to be backed up almost as securely as U.S. federal reserve fiatbux, and worth even less.
If Gaetz was pursuing principle, rather than a token concession, he and the other 19 could have held out indefinitely. Purely as RINO bait, nothing could have been more eloquent than either McCarthy finally admitting defeat and withdrawing, or being forced to seek 20 votes from House Democrats to achieve the speakership. It would have marked him as what he is better than pinning a white feather to his lapel, and painting a yellow strip down his back. But the collapse of opposition demonstrates that principle was just a negotiable talking point, not a foundation stone. That reality speaks volumes about the fundamental problem in Congress.
Caving for paltry promises is the mark of a quisling, and simply underlines that there isn’t a principled conservative anywhere in the congress. There’s nothing more despicable than whores pretending to be righteous.
People will forgive McCarthy for saying anything to get elected (it’s what they all do, and by definition, the winners there were the best at that game), but Gaetz will get no love for believing the fairytale, now or later. He just looks like a naif.
“How’d that work out?”
One has nothing to do with the other. It’s just misdirection.
Personally, I would not have voted for or present to let McCarthy have the speakership.
That does not mean I don’t understand why others did. There is no such thing as all or nothing in politics. You were never going to get anyone any better than McCarthy, as 90% of the republican party are worthless and corrupt hacks. It just might be that some, like Gaetz, thought that McCarthy with concessions was better than the alternative that likely would have been a McCarthy twin but without the concessions.
You’re entitled to your opinion, but you have no solution you are willing to implement, and calling the concessions “paltry promises” may very well turn out to be wrong. There are some strongly principled “conservatives”, Gaetz among them, whose intent will be to take what they can.
That’s all you get. Encourage the ones that are willing.
You miss the point.
Gaetz is demonstrating that it is a Potemkin Congress.
We’ve seen what they’ve said. Now we will see what they do.
If you don’t highlight the hypocrisy you ain’t gonna make it with anyone anyhow.
He made it a high profile news story that GOPe made promises. They probably won’t keep them. That’s the point. Not to make believe it’s working, but to demonstrate that it isn’t working.
Too many times we allow them to slink away without taking a position.
Make them stand for something, broadcast that deal and then make sure people know about it when they break it.
It’s not about our Uniparty in DC.
It’s about alerting Americans to the fact it really IS a Uniparty in DC.
Until we get critical mass there we never get to your stage.
Until a revolution begins we are left to try and work within the system we have.
PerhapsMost likely it is impossible to fix. However, we should celebrate and encourage those that appear to be doing just that, and Gaetz is one of those.
I get that it’s frustrating and seemingly impossible. Violence may be the only solution, but in a country where the vast majority are eating well and free to move as they see fit, that revolution is a long ways off. It is not 1984, Russia, Cuba, China, or remotely like that.
If Gaetz and the others don’t speak up, far too many people don’t see that there is something wrong, there are simple, conservative things that can be done, and it highlights how much the Uniparty is resistant to doing those things.
Trump was a Master at it. He’d say something simple and easily understood, add a little provocative tweaking of the Press’s and Politicians’ noses, and watch them go Batshit Insane over simple things. Which highlighted how out of touch BOTH Parties seemed to be and/or how much they Hated US and didn’t want to do those simple things or recognize those simple truths.
McCarthy to GOPidiots:
“C’mon Charlie Brown! Kick that football! I promise not to move it this time!“
Gaetz: LOOK, SHE’S PULLING THE FOOTBALL AWAY AGAIN!
What is wrong with him and the others pointing out the Hypocrisy of the GOPe?
Just the fact that in order to do it, Gaetz is the one that’ll be flat on his ass while Lucy McCarthy is the one laughing. And at the end of the day, the one still holding the ball.
Except he’s not. He forced McCunty to keep his word on committee assignments.
