Heroes, heroines, however you wanna say it

March 9th, 2008

Two stories of courage, will, and derring-do; two true heroes richly deserving of the honors and plaudits awarded them, as well as the thanks of freedom-loving people everywhere. Well done, ladies.

Thus we inaugurate a new category here: Guardians Of Freedom, which I plan to make much use of in future, to acknowledge in some small way the debt we all owe them.

Good to see the military recognizing the efforts of soldiers.
Hopefully, the whole "women can't serve or it will destroy the armed forces" thing has been laid to rest.

Ever since Desert Storm I have been an outspoken critic about the entire military awards process and I am often overly and justifiably critical of the "level" of awards and the "justification" to meet the required award criteria (and I use that word loosely). I've read, written, and received enough citations to know the difference between real stuff and overstated fluff. I personally don't like helos very much either, too many moving parts and way too ugly, but I respect the hell out of those who fly them, especially in these conditions. After reading this, however, and as a fellow DFC recipient, I'm damn proud to have her in the club. SH, Michelle, good on ya!
