The Poor, Poor Leftists…

June 14th, 2007

Mmmmmm:

A hell of a lot of what the left does these days is tediously lecture middle America about how wrong it is, loudly snorting at a stubbornly unchanging litany of Republican villains. There’s a weirdly indulgent tone to all of this Bush-bashing that goes on in lefty media, a tone that’s not only annoyingly predictable in its pervasiveness, but a turnoff to people who might have tuned in to that channel in search of something else.

What a beautiful rant. You can imagine the author walking up to some professorial type who is shouting away at the protest rally, grabbing the bullhorn, turning it up to ten, and shouting in the professor's face "Take on the Establishment? You silly twatwaffle, YOU ARE THE ESTABLISHMENT!"

    And then walking away.

BTW, what the author of the quoted work was describing is what Lee Harris described in his article on Al Qaeda's fantasy ideology back in 2001. (See Den Beste's essential library). It really isn't so much to influence the public and public policy (recall that the old civil rights movement made sure that the marchers were respectable looking, and Mrs. Parks was chosen for the bus boycott because she was unimpeachable).

The marchers on stilts that the author describes are there because it gives them a cheap moral boost, it is a salve to their guilt. But in reality they are just those who pray loudly in the street to attract the attention of the passersby. "See how righteous I am! See me!"

    They are Pharisees.

Another "progressive" who believes that all the Left needs to do to succeed is give up all this lousy DLC/moderation stuff and release their Inner Commie.

Just as no group that claims to be "non-partisan" actually is non-partisan, few people who use the term "working class" in their writing or speech have a clue what real work is like. Odds are the closest they have ever been to a working person is on the other side of a drive-thru window, or delivering the mail at the office.
