A thought or three

January 10th, 2007

Y’know, at this point, the Democrats must be just about the only ones left that can make Bush look good on the War on Something or Other.

Durbin just said: “We need to disband the militias…” Damn if he ain’t right. Shit, Dick, why don’t we just go ahead and disband al Qaeda while we’re at it?

We are so screwed.

Via AP and Don Sensing, and our old buddy Joe K — all of which are well worth reading in and of themselves — this assessment is close but not quite there:

The controversy over what to do about Iraq has congealed into two camps: supporters of the President who lack a clear plan for achieving victory, and critics of the President who have a detailed plan for America’s defeat.

And a third, actually: guys like me, who wonder where the hell we’re going to find a leader who will finally: stand up to the Axis of Evil by any means necessary; rally the majority of patriotic citizens of this nation to stand firmly behind him while he does so; and ignore the Geek Chorus of doomsayers, defeatists, Fifth Columnists, useful idiots, handwringers, bedwetters, political opportunists, and anti-American Leftists who’re going to have to be outright jack-rolled, rhetorically speaking, before we can ever even begin to think we’re serious about winning this thing.

Or, y’know, if.

Update! FNC just made mention of the “antiwar” protesters “and their stop-the-war signs.” I wish they’d get it right; what the nitwits are advocating is that the US stop fighting. The war will most certainly continue either way.

Good luck with that. It's going to have to get much, much worse before that can happen, at least in my opinion. Is there a Winston Churchill in the room? Not yet.

"Disband the militias" - hey, there's an idea!

I remember back around the time of the Columbine massacre (or maybe some other Clinton-era shooting) when Spike Lee or some other semi-literate fool claimed that the government should "disband the NRA."

These people have so much faith in the power of government that they think all they have to do is issue an imperial decree from on high and it will be done (like the Democrats promise to "capture Bin Laden" - as if the only reason he hadn't been captured was that this little detail was left off of the Pentagon's "to do" list.)
