Predictable, obtuse, and hypocritical
….not to mention plain old boring:
Another day, another New York Times publication of classified information.
Another election cycle, another strategic intelligence-community leak transparently designed to affect the outcome.
Another coincidence of Iraq and al Qaeda terrorism, another simplistic Democratic claim of causation between Iraq and al Qaeda terrorism (but, naturally, never a concession of connection between Iraq and al Qaeda terrorism).
Note to Democrats: if you can’t be honest, you’d better at least be entertaining — and you’ve failed at both, although there’s certainly some hilarity to be gleaned from watching this latest phony Scandal of the Century of the Week blow up in your faces just like all the others:
To set the record straight, President Bush ordered John Negroponte, the Director of National Intelligence, to declassify key judgments from this document and make it available at www.dni.gov. I’d encourage you to read it yourself right now.
First and most importantly, the NIE makes clear that our efforts to destroy al-Qaeda in the past five years have made significant progress, “United States-led counterterrorism efforts have seriously damaged the leadership of al-Qa’ida and disrupted its operations.” Our intelligence personnel recognize that it is no accident that the terrorists have failed to strike us at home since 9/11, even if the Democrats don’t.
The NIE also presents a stark assessment that “the global jihadist movement … is spreading and adapting to counterterrorism efforts … [and] increasing in both number and geographic dispersion.” But it repeatedly states that failure in Iraq … the inevitable consequence of the Democrat policy of retreat … would dramatically harm our fight against these murderers, “perceived jihadist success [in Iraq] would inspire more fighters to continue the struggle elsewhere.”
The declassified judgments on the NIE present a sobering look at the threats we face five years into the War on Terror … and the harrowing consequences of the Democrat policy of abandonment and failure in Iraq. So, read the document yourself and bypass the politically motivated, selective leaks eagerly reported by the New York Times.
Notice, if you will, how the liberal propagandists’ approach to this story is to cherry-pick and even outright lie about what the NIE says; the Republican response is to recommend that you read the whole thing yourself and make your own judgment.
Very telling distinction, that one. Plenty more here, here, here, here, and here.
As the punchline to one of my all-time favorite jokes has it: dumbfucks brought a knife to a gunfight.
Again.
