Doom, despair, and agony on me …
Juliette Ochieng at baldilocks has presented the clearest and most well-reasoned analysis of the Harriet Miers SC nomination that I’ve read to date. She covers the range of conservative opinion on frustration over the nomination, and concludes with six possible reasons for Bush’s selection. I agree with her analysis and conclusions, so naturally you should immediately go RTWT.
Should the Miers nomination fail (and that’s looking more likely by the day), I hope the conservative base that helps defeat it will hold the Senate’s feet to the fire, and make it clear to Republicans that we want a showdown on this issue, whether the “moderates” have the balls taste for it or not. This is the defining moment for the Senate majority; if all we can expect from them is abject submission to Democrats’ threats, then why bother voting for them at all? Lately I’ve approved of their performance far less as the majority than I did when they were in the minority. Maybe it’s it’s time to remind them, again, who has the real power, and vote the bastards out.
Senators Specter and Warner, call your offices.

For a somewhat different take, try this analysis from George Turner over at Misha's. It will make stop and go "hmmmm.....".
