From the 9/11 commission, heard on the radio just now: “There is no question whatsoever that there was a relationship between Iraq and al Qaeda.” As if any justification beyond the several others for removing Saddam had ever been needed, there it is as plain as it can be made. And may all the antiwarriors choke on it.

Woebegone contrite retractions from the “Bush liiied!” crowd now gleefully accepted; all hair shirt coupons cheerfully honored. No other discounts, no returns, no rain checks.

God, it must absolutely suck to be a lib here lately.

Update! Bob Kerrey was just blathering about the crucial need for “total transparency” in intelligence budgets. Yeah, Bob, guaranteeing easy access for terrorists to complete information on how much we’re spending to thwart them, and on what, and which of them we’re watching when, will be a great way to stop them. Idiot.

Clearly, some people never will get it.

    Let me throw this out before the LLL spins; isn't the timing of this 9/11 report suspiciously being printed and distributed right before the DNC?

    The problem with the entire thing, of course, is what is meant by "connection". The anti-war knuckleheads want pictures of Saddam and bin Laden spooning in post-coital bliss before they'll admit there was something going on between Iraq and Al Quaeda.

    Call me stupid, but I'm willing to settle for proof (already given) that Iraq arranged meetings, treated injuries, and served as a safe house for Al Quaeda operatives. We hate-filled warmongers are dumb that way.

    I don't know what 9/11 comission report you just heard about on the radio, but it did not connect Iraq and Al Queda in the way you suggest. You should really read it and not just listen to the radio.

    Now, Iran. That is a problem. You want scary, look to North Korea.

    And what way did I suggest, exactly? The statement I quoted was made not in the report itself, but by one of the commissioners on a press conference I heard on the radio, as I said, although maybe I didn't say it clearly enough. Don't know which commissioner it was, because I came in in the middle of it, but presumably it was one of the Republican members. And it ought to be quite clear by now that there was indeed a connection, which is all I really need to know. Whether Iraq was involved in the planning, execution, or aftermath of 9/11 -- which neither I nor Bush ever claimed -- is immaterial. They were people who may not have liked each other all that much, but were at least willing to acknowledge the fact that they shared a common enemy -- which is more than can be said for way too many Democrats these days.
