If the U.S. captures Osama bin Laden, there’s no need to interrogate him, the chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee said Thursday.
No need. Another 9/11 plot in progress? Whatever. Not important. The names of his operatives? That’s personal. He has privacy rights, you know.
Sen. Patrick Leahy (DEMOCRAT-Vt.), the chairman of that committee, said that arguments raised by Republican senators about whether bin Laden would be afforded Miranda rights if he were captured was a “red herring.”
No, it’s not. You insist he’s a common criminal. Common criminals are freed every day to re-offend because they weren’t Mirandized. Miranda himself got away with raping a teen-age girl for years because liberal judges cut him loose.
You’d think a guy who runs the Judiciary Committee might be smart enough to remain silent.
“The red herring that my friend [Sen.] Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) was covering is not realistic,” Leahy said during an appearance on “Washington Journal” on C-SPAN.
“For one thing, capturing Osama bin Laden — we’ve had enough on him, we don’t need to interrogate him,” Leahy added.
No. Just order up 3,000 more body bags instead.
It’s not about convicting one person of a crime. It’s about winning a war and keeping thousands of Americans alive.
