Socialized Terrorism: The Moral Hazard
SOCIALIZING THE RISKS, PRIVATIZING THE REWARDS
“I think when you spread the wealth around, it’s good for everybody.”–Joe the Gumment Burglar
Something’s being spread around alright–but it isn’t wealth.
Captain Surman told investigators that Hasan had formally contacted military prosecutors to report patients he was evaluating, according to people briefed on the exchange. She said Hasan signed his e-mails with “Praise Be to Allah.” Legal analysts say psychiatrists are strictly bound by the rules of patient confidentiality except in cases where they might become aware of crimes about to be committed.
Imagine you’re back from a tour in Iraq or Afghanistan. The Army assigns you a shrink who tries to convert you to Islam, and looks on his “counseling” sessions as war-crimes interrogations.
The US military appears awfully close to having colluded in Major Hasan’s abuse of his patients. But that’s okay, it’s not like they’re Gitmo detainees or anything…
Washington Times; Covering up jihad:
A judge could rule that Maj. Hasan’s jihadist views are too inflammatory and prejudicial for a jury to hear, that they raise too many strong emotions to be considered. Evidence developed by investigators proving Maj. Hasan’s radical affiliations and activities would be suppressed. Witnesses would be cautioned not to blurt out anything that might have a bearing on motive – such as Maj. Hasan shouting the jihadist battle cry “Allahu Akbar!” before he opened fire.
Maj. Hasan is charged with 13 counts of capital murder, the shootings took place in broad daylight in front of dozens of witnesses, and Maj. Hasan was apprehended wounded on the scene in possession of the murder weapons. Mr. Fidell said that proving that Maj. Hasan was not only a murderer but a jihadist would be “making the rubble bounce.”
This underscores the problem in charging Maj. Hasan with simple murder instead of bringing him up on terrorism charges. The government effectively has established a framework in which the question of Maj. Hasan’s radicalism is irrelevant to the case and could be excluded as prejudicial. It will be as though no terror attack took place.
Because the full story may not come out at Maj. Hasan’s trial, it is imperative for Congress to disregard Mr. Obama’s request and conduct a thorough and wide-ranging investigation into the cause and consequences of the Fort Hood massacre.
In other words, Hasan will be charged in a military court with civilian crimes, while Khalid Shake Vanilla will be charged in civilian court for military war crimes. Two exact opposite courses of action–yet both done to further left-wing politics!
Q: Is it a travesty that Obama is handing KSM the same rights that you have?
A: KSM doesn’t have the same rights as you–he has more. After all, you don’t have the right to look at the all the governments intelligence files. But as a defendant, he will.
In fact Khalid Sheik Muhammed has more rights than a congressman; while he’s being granted access to our secrets, Congress is being denied access to secret files on the Hasan shootings, until such time as the administration is able to ethnically-cleanse these files, and complete Operation: Blameshift.
That’s the Prime Directive. Not to stop another attack. Not to protect you. But to ensure The Blameless One remains that way.
