Accused 9/11 mastermind Khalid Sheikh Mohammed and four other Guantanamo Bay prisoners will be brought to trial in a civilian federal courthouse in Manhattan, just blocks from site of the terror attacks.
In an appearance on Fox News Channel this afternoon, former Mayor Rudy Giuliani said the move was irresponsible.
“It’s not inconceivable that the case could be thrown out,” he said.
“These are war criminals. This was an act of war. An act of terror,” he said. “They should be tried in a military tribunal.”
The trial is part of a larger plan by President Obama to close Gitmo. Obama initially planned to close the detention center by January, but the administration has said it no longer expects to meet that deadline.
Retired firefighter James Riches, whose firefighter son Jimmy died on 9/11, said he would give Obama the benefit of the doubt.
“Hopefully we’re doing the right thing. But if this all goes awry, I’m going to hold Obama and his Justice Department responsible,” Riches said.
He said he’s concerned that in the criminal trial — unlike a military tribunal — certain evidence could be thrown out or considered inadmissible. And he’s concerned about the defendants turning the trial into a propaganda tool.
“They’re going to bring up torture,” he said.
Of course they are. Predictions: at least one of these “defendants” is going to walk, on some technicality or other. The trials will be turned into a circus by liberal-dirtbag defense lawyers. And on-the-ground intelligence officers, already demoralized by Obama’s harassment of them for daring to try to help defend the nation during the Bush years, will be walking around on kitten paws henceforth, as they see their methods and sources compromised by disclosure laws — and the granting of full Constitutional rights to noncitizen illegal enemy combatants who are covered neither by the Constitution nor the Geneva Conventions, but for whom liberals have nevertheless been pressing to secure those rights.
It’s the change idiots voted for; I do hope they’re enjoying it. Keep right on voting for Democrat Socialists, and see how many more ways they can find to spit in your face; destroy your prosperity; make a mockery and a sham of national security; and enslave you, your children, and your children’s children to their vision of the Almighty State.

Update! At least one Democrat ain’t taking a bite of Obama’s shit sandwich. Good on ‘im. Of course, it also must be noted that he’s a former Marine, and a former Reagan staffer to boot, making him not exactly typical of Democrats generally. Make of it what you will. But good on ‘im just the same.
