Foreign policy follies

October 30th, 2009

Just because the “stimulus” scam has been a miserable failure at its stated purpose — because the stated purpose is exactly the opposite of its real one, ie, destroying the few remaining vestiges of free-market capitalism in the USSSA, at which it’s been a rousing success — doesn’t mean that Prince Pissypants’s Not So Smart Power foreign policy hasn’t worked out beautifully. Why, just look at the gains we’ve made with Smarty McSmarterthanyouerson’s brilliant tactic of assuming Iran’s good faith and honest intentions every time they throw another handful of sand in his eyes:

The New York Times reports this afternoon that Iran has rejected the essence of a Western proposal under which it would have shipped some 75 percent of its stockpile of low-enriched uranium (LEU) abroad for further processing into fuel for a research reactor.

Instead, Iran is demanding that it first be supplied with reactor fuel fabricated from foreign uranium. Only then will it consider sending any of its own LEU abroad. In the intervening months, of course, Iranian centrifuges would continue to spin, additional LEU would be produced, and Iran’s defenses of its nuclear sites would continue to be hardened against possible military attack. The Times quotes a European official as saying, “The key issue is that Iran does not agree to export its lightly enriched uranium. That’s not a minor detail. That’s the whole point of the deal.”

So what’s the president to do? What he should do, of course, is move aggressively to penalize Iran for its delaying tactics…

Will the administration do so if Iran’s response is as transparently deceptive as the Times story claims? Will it follow through even if Iran responds by threatening to break off further talks? Is the president prepared to endanger the diplomatic engagement on which he’s staked America’s vital interests, and do so just a month after the negotiations began? Is he prepared to do so even in the face of continued Russian resistance to additional sanctions?

No, no, no, and no. Quick, somebody impose another meaningless “deadline” before anyone notices what a pitiful trainwreck the Boy Genius’s muttonhead approach is!

But don’t worry about this Iran-nukes stuff; it’s small potatoes. When it comes to bringing it on home for his fellow Commie dictators and defying constitutional government, Team Il Douche just landed a knockout punch against freedom and democracy in the People’s Republic of Honduras:

The interim government of Honduras has yielded to international pressure and agreed to allow the return to power of Manuel Zelaya, the ousted President who was toppled in a military coup four months ago.

The breakthrough came after renewed pressure from senior US officials who travelled to Honduras this week for a last-ditch effort to end the crisis.

“It is a triumph for Honduran democracy,” said Mr Zelaya after the rival sides agreed to a deal under which he may be reinstated as President within days.

No it isn’t. It’s a triumph for commie tyrants who are opposed to democracy. Y’know, like you and your partner in crime, Prince Pissypants. But congrats to you and Obama on your successful coup — which will never, ever be referred to in the Obama-sucking media as such.

Mr Micheletti said that Mr Zelaya could return to office after a vote in Congress that would be authorised by the country’s Supreme Court. He said that the deal would require both sides to recognise the result of a presidential election due to take place on November 29 and would transfer control of the army to the top electoral court.

Yeah, right. Hold your breath waiting for it, sucker.

The United States, the European Union and Latin American leaders had all demanded that Mr Zelaya be allowed to finish his presidential term, which ends in January. They had said that they might not recognise the winner of the November election unless democracy was first restored destroyed.

Fixed that for ya. The very first commenter nails it:

What a sad country America has become.

Indeed.
