Your New and Improved First Amendment–Now, Made in Egypt!
…WITH 30% LESS LIBERTOL!
First They Came For The After-Dinner Speakers
…but I said nothing because it was still before lunch.
Mark Steyn refuses to feed the Nile crocodile in hopes he’ll be eaten last:
“…[T]he superficial fluffily-benign language of multiculturalism that comes so naturally to our rulers provides a lot of cover for the shriveling of free speech: See, for instance, what the Administration and its chums in Cairo (that bastion of liberty) have recently been up to at the disgusting UN Human Rights Council. The indefatigable Anne Bayefsky is one of the few journalists even following this story. But I was struck by something Dennis Miller said to me on the radio the other day:
I think if Obama had the chance to put something like Canada’s Human Rights Commissions down here, he’d do it tomorrow.
As Canadians have discovered, liberty is lost very quietly and quickly. And trying to get it back is slow and painful…”
The Obama administration has marked its first foray into the UN human rights establishment by backing calls for limits on freedom of expression. [...]
President Obama chose to join the Council despite the fact that the Organization of the Islamic Conference holds the balance of power and human rights abusers are among its lead actors, including China, Cuba, and Saudi Arabia. Islamic states quickly interpreted the president’s penchant for “engagement” as meaning fundamental rights were now up for grabs. Few would have predicted, however, that the shift would begin with America’s most treasured freedom.
“The United States is very pleased to present this joint project with Egypt.”…
…[T]he Organization of the Islamic Conference made it clear that they understand the resolution and its protection against religious stereotyping as allowing free speech to be trumped by anything that defames or negatively stereotypes religion. The idea of protecting the human rights “of religions” instead of individuals is a favorite of those countries that do not protect free speech and which use religion–as defined by government–to curtail it.
Even the normally feeble European Union tried to salvage the American capitulation…
How bad is it when even Brussels thinks you’re namby-pamby on the First Amendment? This is the written version of Obama’s bow before His Corpulence of Soggy Arabia.
As a Christianist evil-monger (not unlike like the antagonist in Iowahawk’s latest “Uterus Noir” celluloid triumph), not even I support this. If they’ll give us rights we don’t have, they’ll take rights we do have.
I almost never say “What if a Republican had done this?” For one thing, it would be in every post and could be the blog’s name, it’s such a truism. But if George W. Bush had signed a UN agreement to favor state religions over individual rights, the riots would just now be subsiding. But Little Bo President does it without a peep.
These agreements are used overseas to justify crackdowns on dissidents. While Obama is giving a gay rights speech, his diplomats are providing cover to regimes who repress–and I mean real and brutal repression–of gays. and women. and students–and anybody else they like.
Even as they split heads, Third-World Theodore thinks there’s no difference he can’t split. He is Large. He contains Mmm Mmmm Mmmmultitudes. And sooner or later, a judge cites these corrupt bargains to repeal restrictions on government power here.
Nor is this just some foreign hiccup. Frugal Cafe explains:
“President Barack Obama’s Federal Communications Commission (FCC) has released the names of the thirty-one members of their Advisory Committee On Diversity For Communications In The Digital Age. This May 7 gathering is made up of a laundry list of left-wing grievance groups, with a smattering of radio and television companies included to break up the monotony.
Not a single conservative organization is taking part in this Commission – more than a dozen Leftist groups are. A little ironic for a “diversity” panel, is it not?”
This panel discussion to instigate censorship of free speech on the radio is also a travesty, a dog-and-pony show of discussing “fairness” much like a third-world banana republic dictatorship will do to go through the motions to placate the public and to camouflage the desired end result.
The “Fairness Doctrine” that Ronald Reagan abolished has been retooled and renamed “Media Diversity.” It is an affirmative-action scam, hoping to obscure its real intent. Minorities are not prevented from purchasing radio stations, nor are women, nor is any citizen.
There is no oppression. There is no bigotry. It’s all been contrived by the Obama administration. [...]
Schumer …has said many times that “talk radio should be regulated like pornography.”
Does that mean everybody gets free computers so they can surf all day long, like over at the National Science Foundation?
The brutal whining about FOX and Rush shows this crowd is allergic to anybody’s rights but their own. And Egypt’s.

BRAVO! Someone else who understands! This is a critical insight that needs frequent repeating.
