Supreme Leader’s meddling pays off!

July 1st, 2009

This is just too delicious: our own domestic despot just got a lesson in the rule of law from Honduras:

Honduras’ interim leader warned that the only way his predecessor will return to office is through a foreign invasion, setting up a dramatic showdown with the ousted president who is preparing to come home accompanied by world leaders.

A defiant Roberto Micheletti said in an interview with The Associated Press late Tuesday that “no one can make me resign,” defying the United Nations, the Organization of American States, the Obama administration and other leaders that have condemned the military coup that ousted President Manuel Zelaya.

Micheletti vowed Zelaya would be arrested if he followed through with plans to return to Honduras on Thursday, even though the presidents of Argentina and Ecuador have signed on to accompany him along with the heads of the Organization of American States and the U.N. General Assembly.

As he damned sure ought to be, no matter how many communist thugs line up behind him to help out. Good to see the constitutional government of a free and sovereign nation standing up to interfering, dictator-coddling tyrants like (gulp) our pResident. The jug-eared cretin has put America on the wrong side of the eternal fight for liberty and constitutional government, and until he’s gone, we richly merit every good, hard slap in the face we get from our betters. It’s a terrible thing to have to say, but it’s the simple truth.

The only question remaining now is whether the God-Emperor is willing to risk war to re-install a dictator in Honduras. Since it’s not a question of American security but one of supporting the kind of overreaching, all-powerful, cult-of-personality government he clearly favors, I wouldn’t bet the rent against it.

Update! Joshua Muravchik makes sense of it all:

Obama seems to believe that democracy is overrated, or at least overvalued. When asked about the subject in his pre-inaugural interview with the Washington Post, Obama said that he is more concerned with “actually delivering a better life for people on the ground and less obsessed with form, more concerned with substance.”

Whether or not the President was aware of it, he was echoing a theme first propounded long ago by Soviet propagandists and later sung in many variations by all manner of Third World dictators, Left to Right. It has long since been discredited by a welter of research showing that democracies perform better in fostering economic and social well being, keeping the peace, and averting catastrophes. Never mind that it is untoward for a President of the United States to speak of democracy as a mere “form,” less important than substance.

Oh, he was aware of it all right. When it comes to human rights, democracy, and standing up for American ideals, the Supreme Leader isn’t merely indifferent; he’s actively ag’in it. People who don’t wish to confront this fact are doomed to ongoing puzzlement, because his actions simply aren’t explicable any other way.

Some much for not meddling in the affairs of other countries. Jug eared cretin is too kind. Otherwise, maybe after an appropriate "reception" for Zelya, they can name the airport after him.
