Take off the blinders, fellas

June 21st, 2009

Captain Ed and Allahpundit both seem to think that eventually there’ll be a tipping point reached, at which pResident Hussein will be forced at last to acknowledge reality and refuse to talk to Iran’s ruling despots. I can’t for the life of me figure out why they would; weak, spineless, ineffectual leaders don’t get to pick and choose the dictators they crawl to, y’know. ALL must be placated and appeased — and will be.

Update! You really think this guy gives a tinker’s dam about oppression and the crushing of dissent? Really?

A vital part of the faux-conservative schtick is confidence in American values, to the point where one doesn't even acknowledge that other perspectives exist, and one most certainly doesn't
consider the likely consequences of one's words and actions.

Where it leads is this extraordinary equation of patriotism with
ignorance and bluster. Question it and you're accused of wimpishness and "blaming America first."

If there is a tipping point where President Obama will have to proclaim that he is the American president to a foreign adversary, then it will be a a Denethor-situation.

No disrespect to Denethor, Steward of Gondor.

Mike nobody runs for president in Iran without the express written consent of the Mullahs. Mousavi wouldn't change Iran's policy on nuclear enrichment without their permission. He might be less bellicose about relations with the rest of the world but that's about it. That's not to say they won't necessarily have a revolution, they might. But he's just along for the ride. And don't kid yourself, he's not a revolutionary any more than Al Gore or Norm Coleman are.

Oh, I'm aware, mark. Said just that the other day, in fact. And I don't think all this is likely to go much of anywhere, myself. People who are killing in the name of their God don't care how high the body count is. But any chance at all we get to undermine or discomfit 'em, we ought to jump all over it.
