Hats off to the SEALs

April 13th, 2009

I initially assumed it was Team SixDemo Dick Marcinko’s old counterterror unit — although it must also be said that Marcinko is derided as a mouthy hot dog by some, including a couple of Navy guys I know but will refrain from mentioning more specifically here — but I had a vague notion it had been disbanded in the wake of Marcinko’s controversial incarceration, and so it was. Didn’t know Marcinko was a consultant on Fox’s 24, though, which is kinda cool.

Either way: three simultaneous head shots, at moving targets, from an unstable high-seas platform? Not too damned shabby, if you ask me. I also got a very nice e-mail before all the derring-do yesterday, from a long-time reader who works in the very heart of the liberal-media beast, and who had this to say:

Your post is absolutely right, and these routs should not happen. The Mogadishu example especially highlights that. A tiny, outnumbered American force, in foreign territory, completely surrounded, easily recognized by their uniforms and gear – like Xenophon and the 10,000-strong Greek army in Persia after Cyrus the Younger was killed – fought their way out.

We lost 18, but the enemy lost 1,000.

Our superbly trained soldiers, hailing from a free culture that promotes individual initiative, and abundantly equipped by our capitalist society, are superior in every way to these savages.

They just need their hands untied.

Amen to all that. And of course the gutless pussies of the Left not only think Obama deserves the credit for the op — he does in fact deserve credit for not actively obstructing it, as most anyone not an Obama buttlick in the first place would’ve expected he’d do; with no little justification, given his recent All Apologies World Tour and his intention to slash defense spending — they’re also berating the good Captain Phillips as a “grandstander,” and deploring his courageous acts of resistance. Which is to be expected, naturally; obvious bravery is always a nettlesome, shaming thing to passive milksops who possess not an iota of it themselves.

And in the end, it’s all about the environment anyway, you know.

Sheesh, what predictable, hapless dolts.

No matter, though; in the end, it’s three cheers for the SEALs (one for each dead goblin), and three groans for the meathead Left. Bravo, Navy — and encore!

Update! Riposte to the cringing Fighty Fightin’ Nutrooters at Kos and PuffyHo:

Cowardice will not defeat terrorism, nor will it stop the Somali pirates. If anything, continuing to meet the pirates’ demands only acts as an incentive for more piracy.

No, no, a thousand times no! This WaPo wingnut needs to internalize the same magical-thinking formulation Left quislings use for terrorism: killing pirates actually creates more of them. And you know it’s only a matter of time before they claim that these acts of piracy absolutely scream for the disarmament of law-abiding American gun owners, just as the depredations of Mexican paramilitary gangs do.

But I got to thinking about it, and there just might be one bright side to the Left’s reflexive defense of the pirates and repudiation of any idea of stout resistance to them: at least in terms of their determination that politics must never stop at the water’s edge, and their unyielding dedication to afflicting America and comforting her enemies, Leftists have discovered consistency at last. When it comes to American humiliation and defeat at the hands of foreign antagonists, it doesn’t seem to matter much to them which party is in the White House. Let Obama’s war crimes trial begin!

Three groans for ‘em again, and a Bronx cheer to boot.

What's the very old saying? "Once you pay the Danegeld, you never get rid of the Dane."

I was off the coast of Somalia in 1994 with an entire 4 ship Marine Amphibious Ready Group that was itching to get into the fight. We were denied. Turn the services and the warriors loose on the pirates, the gangs and the murderous jihadis and let's get some of our own back. We have 18 souls and a lot of honor to regain.

Ryan, you couldn't be righter, brother. Thank you...for everything. No matter how low we may sink in days to come, never forget that there will always be some of us who remember, and who are grateful.
