Obama takes over GM

March 30th, 2009

And hey, what’s good for GM is good for America, right?

This is just the beginning, folks.

Update! Will asks the obvious question:

I know we’re not supposed to ask questions like this, but where exactly in the Constitution is anybody in the government given the power to fire a private citizen?

Constitution? What Constitution? And who cares about a dusty, irrelevant old thing like that these days, anyway?

Updated update! Government Motors unveils its design for its first new car, and it’s every bit as exciting as you’d expect. Be sure to check the comments, too; only a handful so far, but they’re all right on the money.

Looks like we're gonna find out -- and the Constitution and free-market capitalism be damned.

That's funny, cos a lot of the newer cars remind me of a Coverse sneaker on wheels.

It is important to note that Waggoner saved GM by moving it to making larger SUVs and trucks, cars that Americans wanted to buy.

All sedans have a 30 percent tax on them, compared to trucks. Every vehicle has a 5,000 tax on it to pay for employee pensions and health care. Only on larger cars did GM have a chance to make a profit.

Did he miss some opportunity? Yes. No Hummer with a diesel.
