I voted for a Messiah, and all I got was this lousy politician:
The justice department ruled that some 600 so-called enemy combatants at Bagram have no constitutional rights.
Most have been arrested in Afghanistan on suspicion of waging a terrorist war against the US.
The move has disappointed human rights lawyers who had hoped the Obama administration would take a different line to that of George W Bush.
Prof Barbara Olshansky, the lead counsel in a legal challenge on behalf of four Bagram detainees, told the BBC the justice department’s decision not to reform the rules was both surprising and “enormously disappointing”.
Goodbye, put-upon victims of Bushbot brutality; helloooo again, “unlawful enemy combatants!”
Boofuckinghoo and suck on it, my little Lefty lambs. The killer-zealots are mad, bad, and dangerous enough to know that not even a hapless team of Democrat naifs and pseudopacifists can justify granting them full US Constitutional rights. How about that.
They played the Nutroots like violins, asserting their opposition to all those horrible Bush policies they quietly reviewed and declined to oppose — except in disingenuous, self-seeking political statements issued purely to fleece their flock and keep ‘em reliably in the pen. They were playing politics with US national security all along, just as so many of us said they were — and that remains every bit as despicable as we said, too — and the willingly blind and morally self-righteous walked into the trap with eyes wide shut. Their lamentations now are sweet, sweet music to these ears.
To be sure, it’ll never be sweet enough to palliate the acrid taste of seeing supposedly responsible “leaders” in our government subordinating the interests of the nation for their own selfish gain. But it’s damn sure something, anyway.
It is certainly evidence that having set the tone for his administration by announcing plans to close Guantanamo Bay, Mr Obama intends to adopt a much more cautious approach to the problem of detainees held elsewhere by the US military, our correspondent says.
Remains to be seen. If national security concerns are ever perceived as interfering with his and his henchmen’s grip on power, national security will be tied up in a sack and tossed overboard like an unwanted kitten.
But for now: Obama lied, and you putzes ate it with a spoon. And now you get to swallow. Try not to choke on it. Why, that would just break my heart right in two.
Update! Well said, Captain Ed:
The exact quote from the Barack Obama-era Department of Justice? “Having considered the matter, the government adheres to its previously articulated position.” The DoJ and the DoD consider Bagram detainees “unlawful combatants” without any rights to access the US court system and with no recourse for release.
Just as it did in the George Bush administration. Remember how the Left considered Bush a war criminal for taking this exact position? I’d like to see how they square the circle with Obama now. A few like Glenn Greenwald will rip Obama on principle, but the rest will suddenly discover the reasonableness of detaining terrorists and treating them not like burglars but like enemy combatants who have themselves violated Geneva Conventions through their terrorism.
Just as we did in the George Bush administration.
All statements from Barack Obama come with expiration dates. That’s something that the HopeandChangizoids have begun to learn just a month after the dawning of the Age of Obama. A lot of them owe Bush — and us — apologies.
Damned skippy they do. But none of us ought to bother holding our breath waiting for apologies from people whose blank shamelessness is already well-established.

We had to break up the band.
