Thanks to Obama!

January 16th, 2009

He obviously intervened to save these people, and His divine Hand was surely on the pilot:

The pilot of US Airways Flight 1549 achieved one of the most technically challenging and seldom attempted feats in commercial aviation: landing on water successfully…

To accomplish such a feat so soon after takeoff, while maneuvering over the skyscrapers of Manhattan and into the crowded Hudson River, will likely be seen as a testament to the crew’s piloting skills.

“It looks like a great bit of flying and great airmanship,” said Bob Mann, an airline consultant based in Port Washington, NY.

It does at that. And it wouldn’t have been remotely possibly without the unifying force of Hope and Change unleashed all across this now-goodly land — a land previously accursed, and justly so — by our new King of Kings. PRAISE HIM WITH GREAT PRAISE!

On a way, way more serious note, Stace calls Captain Sullenberger “one stud pilot,” and I imagine Cousin Reg — who damned well ought to know, being one himself — would back that up wholeheartedly. As Drew M says, “Total engine failure, low and heavy and over the most populous city in the country? Yeah, there are some free beers in their future.” Damned skippy. And Michele has plenty of pictures, with links to plenty more. She also notes that, as usual, denizens of the mainstream press didn’t exactly cover themselves in glory — although I’m quite sure they’d argue with that. As usual.

Update! Jules notes some Lefty twit complaining about Righty politicization of this miraculous event, by rushing to have a few laughs at the expense of the Barrackolyte flock. This, after making a crack about Cheney waterboarding some geese to get to the bottom of it.

No, really.

Updated update! Another Obama MIRACLE!

Update to the updated update! Hero? I’d say so, yeah.

Captain Sullenberger is “one stud pilot”. While experiencing MASSIVE FAIL on the A320, he put it down like handling a baby. Water is HARD at those speeds and the plane did not break up or even lose a wing as one thinks it could have.

The guy is a true American Hero.

To land a plane in the water and intact takes good piloting skills
