Rat’s nest to be cleaned out

January 3rd, 2009

Godspeed, good luck, and all success to our brothers and sisters in the IDF. This could very well be the beginning of the outcome-deciding battle of the war against Islamic terrorism, lately halting and perhaps even faltering as it’s been of late.

Israel is poised to launch a major ground offensive into Gaza tonight after allowing hundreds of foreigners living in the devastated territory to evacuate.

After a week of air strikes that have killed at least 420 Palestinians and left scores of buildings in rubble, the Israeli army was set to fling hundreds of troops and tanks into a blitz to stamp out Hamas’s military wing, The Times understands.

Despite the looming onslaught, more Hamas rockets – which have so far killed four Israelis – were fired into southern Israel today.

The “looming onslaught,” as Ace says, is in direct response to the neverending barrage of rockets Hamas has been hurling daily into Israel in direct violation of a ceasefire they themselves agreed to without any intention from day one of honoring — as usual — something despicably downplayed by this liberal “journalist,” natch. Wouldn’t want to be seen as taking the wrong side in civilization’s war with bloody-minded primitivism, don’tchaknow.

Update! Charles lays out the sad truth:

This day was inevitable, ever since Israel’s withdrawal. Now the IDF are going to have to retake territory that’s been heavily armed and booby-trapped, in a densely packed urban environment.

Yep. Let’s hope the lily-livered politicians — ours and theirs — will let them finish off Hamas once and for all this time.

Updated update! Totten looks at the applicable rules of war, which negate the idiotic “disproportionate” twaddle reflexively spouted by liberal terrorist-sympathizers, who seem to believe they can wish all war away if they just frown hard enough at Israel and the US.

Update to the updated update! Lots of stuff from Allahpundit, including this happy news:

The IAF also hit the home of senior Hamas commander Abu Zacharia Al-Jamal. A Hamas spokesman announced that al-Jamal was killed in the attack, which would make him the third senior operative in the group to be targeted in the past three days.

A fine start. Cover him in pig entrails, leave him lying in the street, and move on to the next vicious, subhuman piece of dung. Let the Jew-haters squeal all they like; they’re going to anyway, so might as well do the job right this time.
