What happens when you gullibly make politicians into Saviors

December 18th, 2008

You get used and tossed aside like Kleenex, that’s what. In a word, you get punked.

Naturally, that reliable shill and hapless good-time Charlie Andrew Sullivan is anointing his buttocks with holy oil, girding his loins, and making excuses for Obama even now (he “won’t be as bad as the Clintons,” says he), and the attendant irony is particularly delicious, given the ludicrous depths to which he’s descended in his fervor for his beloved Messiah. One can only delight in imagining the bubbling rants he’d be spewing about his pet bogeymen the “Christianists” and the coming gay Holocaust if Juanny Mav had won the election and did anything other than threaten to jail and execute Warren for his rampant homophobia. But since it’s Obama twisting the knife into ol’ RAWMUSCLGLUTES’ back — hey, no harm, no foul. The simpering fool even manages to shoehorn yet another attack on the monster Palin (shudder) into his desperate rationalizations:

Palin And Warren
Christianism may be the common thread between their shared and bizarre views of the First Amendment. Warren somehow believes that the existence of my civil marriage violates his freedom of speech. And Palin, remember, had a similar view:

“If [the media] convince enough voters that that is negative campaigning, for me to call Barack Obama out on his associations,” Palin told host Chris Plante, “then I don’t know what the future of our country would be in terms of First Amendment rights and our ability to ask questions without fear of attacks by the mainstream media.”

These people have the strangest understanding of the constitution of the United States – and that strange understanding is rooted in their theocratic view of the world.

Note that the Palin quote that so unnerves Sully has nothing whatever to do with gay marriage, and is in fact perfectly reasonable, and quite true. But so debilitating is Excitable Andy’s narcissistic mania that everything, simply everything, that comes from the mouths of those who disagree with him must be filtered through the lens of his dementia.

You übersophisticates shoulda stuck with the jaded hipster cynicism. Now all’s you drooling-adolescent lambs can do is keep floating on down the river of denial, while more sensible people stand on the bank pointing and laughing at what ingenuous dupes you all are.

Suckers. You bought it; now you get to live with it. Unfortunately, so do the rest of us who saw through this hollow, grasping drone all along. Thanks a pantload, dupes.

Update! Via Glenn, Bruce asks a pertinent (or perhaps impertinent would be more the mot juste) question:

As a follow-up to AverageGayJoe’s posting from yesterday, I have a simple question.

Is there ANY American religious leader that would be acceptable to the Radical Gay Left to do an invocation?

Perhaps Rev. Wright? Maybe Father Pfleger?

He comes up with the correct answer, of course, and it’s a sad-but-true gem.
