Success!

November 24th, 2008

As everybody and his brother noted last week, Mark Halperin finally came out and admitted, specifically, just how in the tank the Obamedia was. This, of course, led to some predictably ludicrous squalling from the Nutrooters about the “right-wing media.” One reason I didn’t bother mentioning the Halperin piece was that my take all along was more along these lines:

There’s been a lot of talk about how the mainstream media failed the country during this last election cycle, and that because of that failure their days are numbered.

I have to disagree. I think the media performed flawlessly during the two year election cycle. They managed the story, shielded their candidate, attacked the opposition, sat on damaging stories, and in short did everything a good state run media should do during an election cycle.

In fact, the only sign of their incompetence was that McCain kept the race much closer than he should have, but that failure might be more due to the education system failing to properly propagandize the young voters, although they’ll probably blame home-schoolers for that.

And rightly so, too, I’d say.

I’ve also been kind of amused at times at the various predictions from the Rightosphere that this election was going to be the last one in which Old Media influence would be paramount. They ain’t going anywhere, kids, and you’d better believe it; as I recollect mentioning a while back, look for them to attempt to rehabilitate their tarnished rep by pretending to dig into the Obama admin’s darker secrets early on — all of which “darker” secrets will have a weighty-import quotient of, say, who in the admin isn’t ponying up in the honor-system coffee pool, or which misogynist male staffer (most likely a holdover from the Bush criminal conspiracy) keeps leaving the seat on the office toilet up. This will give them a scrim of “objectivity” behind which they’ll attempt to tuck their outright cheerleading for every socialist initiative the Obamajunta brings up.

And they’ll succeed, too, because as always, the only people this naked deception will matter to are A) those who are actually paying attention, and B) those who aren’t all in favor of it. That’s a thin enough minority in the best of times, and these ain’t them.

It’s not really that they’re incompetent; it’s that a majority of Americans are.

(Via Insty, who also notes that our eager-to-shock, oh-so-iconoclastic liberal comedians can’t seem to find anything funny about a Messiah they actually believe in themselves)

Update! More too-little-too-late — and that ain’t no accident either — from Jake Tapper, and from Captain Ed, who says, “It’s very convenient to speak with such authority when it no longer would make a difference.” It’s more than just convenient; it’s an integral part of the program. And as I said before, it’ll work quite nicely with the stupes and dupes.

"It’s not really that they’re incompetent; it’s that a majority of Americans are."

I'm afraid you are right. Just like governments, nations get the news media that they deserve. I no longer give a shit what hacks like Halperin and Tapper say. They had ample opportunity to speak up when it might have mattered. Anyway, I'm sure that amorphous glimmer of integrity that they now struggle to comprehend will fade away when their masters download the next narrative into their pea-sized brains.

I never understood the anticipation for the death of the MSM after this election. They own the playing field, and the referees, and they make the rules. Plus, with a supportive government behind them, they don't have to worry about making money. They'll be here until the revolution topples them.

Depending upon which way the revolution goes, that is. Today's John Reeds and Walter Durantys need have no fear of unemployment.

Exactly. I'm amazed to hear conservatives arguing that the lefty bias is destroying the drive-by-media. What are they thinking? That's like arguing that conservatives' refusal to buy gangsta rap killed album sales. Album sales died because they were replaced by CDs and ipods. The same people who made albums make the CD's and we still have gangsta rap. This is not rocket science. The print media is dying because technology has changed. HELLO! The same biased jackals that run the drive-by-media will have a large presence on the internet or any other new format. The same moonbats that read the print version of the NY Times will read the online version.

I was at a small Republican event where the Republican rep said how SHOCKED the entire party was at the treatment Palin received by the press. HELLO! I'm new to the party (a 9/11 Republican) and I was not shocked by what they did to Palin. After watching them trash Bush for 8 years, how big a fool do you have to be in order to express shock that the press trashed Palin. So, I asked "well now that you know they hate Republicans and Palin, what is the plan to combat the press during the rest of the election?" The response "if there is a plan, no one has told me about it." Boy, I bet they were shocked when McCain lost. So much for the Wizards of Smart. They should just STFU. Everyone else, invest in a good marketing plan for 2010.
