God hates Palin
And so does every last man, woman, and child on Earth, as they quake with fear over the prospect of her attaining the position of leader of the Free World — a position, by the by, for which she, uhh, isn’t running:
When I got home from church, I drank a bunch of water to metabolize the Dove bar and called my Jesuit friend, who I know hates these people, too. I asked, “Don’t you think God finds these smug egomaniacs morally repellent? Recoils from their smugness as from hot flame?”
And he said, “Absolutely. They are everything He or She hates in a Christian.”
From a liberal-twit intellectual’s lips to God’s own ears, in an arrow-straight line, with no pause for reflection on how very unChristian the expressed sentiment really is. Does it strike anyone but me as kinda funny that the central thrust of this hysterical codswallop is that Palin is simply abhorrent because she arrogantly claims to have a special ultra-Christian hotline straight to God Himself (which claim she hasn’t actually made, preferring instead to humbly hope that she can fathom God’s will through prayer and careful meditation), whereupon the “writer” of this trifling moonshine turns right around and…arrogantly claims to have a special ultra-Christian hotline straight to God Himself?
Now, I am a reform Christian, so it is permissible for me to secretly believe that God hates this woman, too.
No, it isn’t. It really isn’t. Tells us all a lot about just how much your brand of Christianism is actually worth, though, and how much sacrifice and thoughtful inner struggle your feel-good-always rationalizations masquerading as worthwhile spirituality really demand of you.
I’ll leave the rest of the necessary fisking of this self-justifying New Age twaddle in the capable hands of Mr Lileks. I can only take so much hateful sanctimony this early in the morning, after all.
