The Red Death Fizzle

Imagine my surprise.

Surprisingly, the deaths of older people stayed the same before and after COVID-19. Since COVID-19 mainly affects the elderly, experts expected an increase in the percentage of deaths in older age groups. However, this increase is not seen from the CDC data. In fact, the percentages of deaths among all age groups remain relatively the same. “The reason we have a higher number of reported COVID-19 deaths among older individuals than younger individuals is simply because every day in the U.S. older individuals die in higher numbers than younger individuals,” Briand said.

Briand also noted that 50,000 to 70,000 deaths are seen both before and after COVID-19, indicating that this number of deaths was normal long before COVID-19 emerged. Therefore, according to Briand, not only has COVID-19 had no effect on the percentage of deaths of older people, but it has also not increased the total number of deaths.

These data analyses suggest that in contrast to most people’s assumptions, the number of deaths by COVID-19 is not alarming. In fact, it has relatively no effect on deaths in the United States.

When Briand looked at the 2020 data during that seasonal period, COVID-19-related deaths exceeded deaths from heart diseases. This was highly unusual since heart disease has always prevailed as the leading cause of deaths. However, when taking a closer look at the death numbers, she noted something strange. As Briand compared the number of deaths per cause during that period in 2020 to 2018, she noticed that instead of the expected drastic increase across all causes, there was a significant decrease in deaths due to heart disease. Even more surprising, as seen in the graph below, this sudden decline in deaths is observed for all other causes.

This trend is completely contrary to the pattern observed in all previous years. Interestingly, … the total decrease in deaths by other causes almost exactly equals the increase in deaths by COVID-19. This suggests, according to Briand, that the COVID-19 death toll is misleading. Briand believes that deaths due to heart diseases, respiratory diseases, influenza and pneumonia may instead be recategorized as being due to COVID-19.

That’s from a Johns Hopkins report, hastily removed and censored since Robert Zimmerman’s original post, to which he helpfully provides a couple of alternative links over at his joint. Zimmerman’s own wrap-up says it all:

In other words, COVID-19 is just another type of flu-like respiratory disease, that is only appearing terrible because doctors and hospitals are incorrectly labeling many deaths as COVID-19 when in past years they would have labeled them based on the existing chronic illnesses the patient already had.

It has all been a scam, a Chicken Little scam induced by some very evil people in government to cause fear and panic in the general population. I leave it to my readers to figure out why.

Regardless, it is time for people to come to their senses. Let the worry warts cower in mindless fear in their basements. Rip off that mask, go back to living your normal American life, free and open, pursuing your happiness.

Amen, brother; you’re preaching to the choir here. But I fear a profound effort will be required before anybody can go back to living normal American lives, assuming there’s even such a thing to be had at all after this man-caused disaster. Petty tyrants all across the nation aren’t going to just back off and relinquish the absolute power they’ve been enjoying so much for lo, these many months without a struggle, unfortunately, and no amount of hard data will persuade them otherwise.

Which, more unfortunately, is assuming that enough of us even WANT those “normal American lives” back in the first place. Maybe the most dismaying aspect of the whole Shamdemic farce was how eager all too many of us—in the grip of a panic manufactured specifically for the purpose—were to surrender their liberty and Constitutional rights to purchase a little phony security. In any event, I can’t recall a single historical instance when lost liberty was regained without a struggle.

  1. Kenny, Haz, and I had this figured out back in March. Just lucky I guess. /S

I find it astonishing that so many people are willing to ignore the data, put on a diaper, and live in the basement.

It’s time to separate. Let the unAmericans live their basement dwelling lives and the Americans out in the sunshine. I’m ready to rearrange the map.

    1. Zimmerman has a very good post at his site (from a few weeks back, you can search for it there) about how far too many people are unwilling to give up their fear of COVID. It justifies too many of their existing biases, fits too neatly into the way they view the world, and gives them a reason to (oddly enough for a “pandemic that will kill us all!!!!!!”) feel good about themselves and how virtuous they are for wearing the face diaper.

      1. My back of the envelope judgment is that you/Zimmerman are correct.
I’m special because I wear the face covering, saving everyone from that horrible virus.

I think way too many of these idiots think this virus is the Andromeda Strain. Crichton would be horrified.

        1. I think way too many of these idiots think this virus is the Andromeda Strain.

Yep. I have not seen anything on public opinion surveys recently (memory holed as too obviously ludicrous, I suspect), but there were a number of articles a couple months ago on how a sizable fraction of the general public in the US and western Europe thought COVID had killed at least 10% of the total population. Talk about proof of the power of continous media gaslighting and fear mongering! Not to mention proof of public innumeracy.

Tons of low info people truly believe COVID is the worst pandemic to ever exist, and that it has killed immense numbers of people and will kill them if they don’t wear their magic mask. The left’s intentional destruction of public education is a foundation stone for so many of our current problems.

          1. “…thought COVID had killed at least 10% of the total population.”

I remember seeing something like that. I’ve had a months long argument about the effect on college age and under children in NC with some people. They insist the damn chinaVirus is deadly and I quote the actual numbers which are 0% for age 25 and under (they were, can’t get that data now) but because of rounding there had been three deaths total (as of a month ago anyway).

Three in a state of 10million+. I actually got banned from one website for spreading “disinformation” when I reported the actual numbers and the link to the NC DHHS. And of those 3, two had severe comorbidity’s.

            1. I still do not know anyone who has had COVID. Not one. For the “most devastating plague of all time” that sure is pretty non-devastating, at least in my area and social circle.

Add one more remove (know someone who knows someone), and there are two cases. One had mild cold-like symptoms for a few days, and the other was entirely asymptomatic. Without getting tested (required for treatment of a different, long-standing health issue) they would not have known they ever had the Dread Virus of Doom ™.

I really have to wonder what will happen if (when) we get a REAL pandemic, given all the damage being done to trust in the public health authorities.

              1. I know someone who knew several people who had and died of the Chinese Flu. She was a nurse at a NYC hospital earlier this year.

Aside from her, though, so far as I know I don’t know anyone who’s had the Chinese Flu or who knows anyone who’s had it. Several people were “diagnosed” as “probably having been infected” back around April, but with no test and a grab-bag of symptoms, many of which match other common ailments and many of which are highly subject to psychosomatic origin, that “probably” boils down to “let’s do what we can to pump the numbers”.

                1. Nurse in a NYC hospital early this year? Ouch.

Other than Granny Killer Cuomo’s Emmy-award winning Leadership ™, for most of the country this whole thing has been remarkably non-doomy for a plague of doom. If it wasn’t for highly sensitive (maybe over-sensitive, in fact) lab tests, would anyone have ever realized this was not just another strain of flu? Of course, without highly sensitive lab gear there likely would never have been a COVID-19, depending on your favorite theory of the origin of the Kung Flu….

                  1. My sister is a pulmonary specialist. In her county they dedicated one hospital to the virus afflicted. Never rose above 20% occupancy and that in the middle of the worst month. The other hospitals were damn near empty.

China lab was the origin and the release was coordinated with the democrats.

              2. My wife and I probably had it. Thought it was the regular flu as it was early, end of Jan. Right now, my daughter in law has it, she reports it’s not nearly as bad as the flu. My Son in laws mother, very at risk as she is on oxygen for COPD, had it a couple weeks back, and she is now fine.

Other than that I’ve heard of a few cases, but they’re all mild to non existent symptom wise. It’s pretty treatable now even for an older at risk person. There are millions standing on the edge of the cliff waiting for the push over. That’s just life. Keep it away from the at risk as much as possible and that’s all you can do.

  2. I’m sure others are inside ashamed of themselves for their cowardice but if they make everyone wear it they don’t have to remind themselves of that fear and shame every time they see a person without a mask confidently strolling around.

Every one masked allows them to reason away their cowardice. “It really is a deadly plague and we are all wearing masks for a Reason!!”
