Civics lesson from an older, better America

Preach, brother.

Rep. Dan Crenshaw took the left to school with a hard lesson exposing the truth behind the Democrat tax policy in under two minutes.

The Texas Republican posted a video on Twitter Tuesday featuring his truth-bomb about the “difference in philosophy” on tax rates, calling out the Democrats whose goal is to levy more taxes on Americans along with their “benevolent” bureaucrat friends.

“What we’re here talking about a difference in philosophy, not just tax rates,” Crenshaw said. “It’s a question of whether the government should be taking more of your money or whether you should be able to keep more of your money.”

Actually, by now it’s become a question of whether it’s even your money at all.

The 34-year-old former Navy Seal, who lost his right eye in an IED explosion while serving in Afghanistan, shed light on the different views Republicans and Democrats have on the “role of government and what we believe” when it comes to taxing Americans.

“It seems to me that you all believe that the role of government is to tax the people as much as possible so that you and your benevolent academics can dream up more programs for the government to spend money on,” Crenshaw said.

“I don’t believe that. I don’t believe that’s what the role of government is for,” he declared, before launching into the day’s civics lesson for progressives.

“The role of government is to protect the God-given rights that we have and the ensure that we live as free as possible. The role of government is to tax people to the least extent that is possible while still taxing them enough to cover basic needs for government,” he explained, pointing anyone with questions about those basic needs to the U.S. Constitution.

Heh. A good shot, yes. But it makes me feel sadly nostalgic that anybody still thinks the Constitution matters a whit to Democrat-Socialists, or that it might apply to or restrain them in any conceivable way.

  1. But it makes me feel sadly nostalgic that anybody still thinks the Constitution matters a whit to Democrat-Socialists, or that it might apply to or restrain them in any conceivable way.

Of course! Several Democrats, Nancy Pelosi included, have said so in front of a camera. There should be YouTube clips of those statements. It reminds me of what Lysander Spooner said in “No Treason:”

The highwayman takes solely upon himself the responsibility, danger, and crime of his own act. He does not pretend that he has any rightful claim to your money, or that he intends to use it for your own benefit. He does not pretend to be anything but a robber. He has not acquired impudence enough to profess to be merely a “protector,” and that he takes men’s money against their will, merely to enable him to “protect” those infatuated travellers, who feel perfectly able to protect themselves, or do not appreciate his peculiar system of protection. He is too sensible a man to make such professions as these. Furthermore, having taken your money, he leaves you, as you wish him to do. He does not persist in following you on the road, against your will; assuming to be your rightful “sovereign,” on account of the “protection” he affords you. He does not keep “protecting” you, by commanding you to bow down and serve him; by requiring you to do this, and forbidding you to do that; by robbing you of more money as often as he finds it for his interest or pleasure to do so; and by branding you as a rebel, a traitor, and an enemy to your country, and shooting you down without mercy, if you dispute his authority, or resist his demands. He is too much of a gentleman to be guilty of such impostures, and insults, and villainies as these. In short, he does not, in addition to robbing you, attempt to make you either his dupe or his slave.

The proceedings of those robbers and murderers, who call themselves “the government,” are directly the opposite of these of the single highwayman.

    1. Thanks for quoting Spooner, who was an intellectual giant, one of the greatest minds we’ve ever produced, imho. If we would’ve had a gov’t and currency based on Spooner’s ideas, we never would have got ourselves into our current mess.

  2. Anybody else watch Lt. Cmdr. Ben Crenshaw’s segment last night on Fox’s “the Story”?

Fox, in their infinite wisdom, edited out his glass eye with a crude magic marker like blot over his glass eye while he was on camera.

I guess Ms McCallum or perhaps one of her producers was offended or triggered by the Representative’s display of his war wound, EVEN THOUGH they INVITED him to EXPRESS HIS OPINION on the show.
