During Supreme Court nominee Judge Brett Kavanaugh’s confirmation hearing on Thursday, Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) launched into a fiery speech, chiding both Democrats and Republicans for their conduct in this debate on allegations of sexual assault against him.
“If you wanted an FBI investigation, you could have come to us,” Graham declared, turning to the Democrats. “What you want to do is destroy this guy’s life, hold this seat open, and hope you win in 2020. You’ve said that, not me.”
“When you see [Supreme Court Justices] Sotomayor and Kagan, say hello because I voted for them. I’d never do to them what you’ve done to this guy,” Graham added. “This is the most unethical sham since I’ve been in politics and if you really wanted to know the truth, you sure as hell wouldn’t have done what you’ve done to this guy.”
“Are you a gang rapist?” he asked Kavanaugh. The judge responded, “No.”
“I cannot imagine what you and your family have gone through,” Graham added. “Boy, you all want power,” he said to the Democrats. “God, I hope you never get it. I hope the American people can see through this sham, that you new about it and you held it.”
“You had no intention of protecting Dr. Ford. None,” the senator declared. “She’s as much of a victim as you are,” he said, turning back to Kavanaugh.
“God, I hate to say it because these have been my friends, but let me tell you, when it comes to this, if you’re looking for a fair process, you came to the wrong town at the wrong time, my friend.”
“This is going to destroy the ability of good people to come forward because of this crap,” Graham declared. “You have interacted with professional women all your life, not one accusation. You’re supposed to be Bill Cosby when you’re a junior and senior in high school. And all of a sudden you got over it.”
“To my Republican colleagues, if you vote no, you’re legitimizing the most despicable thing I have seen in my time in politics,” Graham said. To the Democrats again, “You want this seat, I hope you never get it.”
To Kavanaugh, Graham said, “I hope you’re on the Supreme Court. That’s exactly where you should be. And I hope the American people will see through this charade. And I wish you well. I intend to vote for you, and I hope everybody who’s fair-minded will.”
White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders praised Graham. “[Lindsey Graham] has more decency and courage than every Democrat member of the committee combined. God bless him,” she tweeted.
He damned sure does. The Democrat-Socialist response to this richly-deserved tongue-lashing?
Somebody working from a House of Representatives office is editing the Wikipedia pages of Republican senators to post what looks like their home addresses.
Sens. Lindsey Graham of South Carolina and both Mike Lee and Orrin Hatch of Utah all had their home addresses posted online. It is called doxxing, and it is despicable.
The current Supreme Court skirmish has become particularly nasty. The Left has taken as fact that Judge Brett Kavanaugh is a serial sexual predator without corroborating evidence. The Left has tried to blackmail Sen. Susan Collins, R-Maine. And now someone on the Left is going after the families because of the politics of Republican senators.
Yeah, tell me again all about how we can live peaceably alongside such filthy scum as this. But it would seem that perhaps the Left’s usual vile tactics might not be working out as they hoped this time:
Okay, I did NOT see ANY of that coming. Not by a long yard, I didn’t. I repeat: wow.
I’ve had to eat crow a time or two (ahem) in my life. This time around, as I said the other day, I’m going to truly enjoy it. Because if—against all odds and contra my previous prediction—the Democrat-Socialist sewer-crawlers end up righteously punished for this revolting spectacle with a Kavanaugh confirmation backed up by a total blowout in November, that crow is going to be indescribably delicious. I promise to savor every bite.
Update! Jeff Lord lays the blame at the correct feet:
Look. Bluntly put? Enough of this. Enough.
As said in this space the other day, the Senate judicial confirmation process is corrupt. Utterly bankrupt. This began with the hearing for Reagan nominee Robert Bork and has steadily gone downhill ever since.
Why? Because the American Left is not about the Constitution much less simple basic human decency. The party of President John F. Kennedy, one of my childhood heroes, is hell and gone from JFK’s stirring inaugural call to “Ask not what your country can do for you, ask what you can do for your country.”
What we have been seeing the last few days is a political party and the American Left that it represents that is no longer about the honor and respect for public service that JFK championed. Rather it is now a party and movement for which no smear is too great, no lie too big in a totalitarian-style drive to obtain permanent power over the American people.
By their despicable behavior in this hearing for Judge Kavanaugh, Democrats have made their own conduct the central issue of the 2018 campaign — not to mention the 2020 campaign that looms beyond. They have no principles or ideas to campaign on. Their core belief is that they have a God-given right to raw power and privilege. And to challenge them is to invite the politics of personal destruction now visited on Judge Kavanaugh. And they wonder why Donald Trump was elected? Really?
What has been on display here in this confirmation process is nothing less than a disgusting disgrace.
Judge Kavanaugh has emerged a hero after all of this. And ditto with Senator Lindsey Graham.
If the Manchin/Donnelly/Murkowski/Collins/Corker switch holds up, this will have been a truly historic day—the day on which some long-overdue chickens finally came home to roost.
