Here we are: stuck in the middle with Moslems.
After 9/11, it was the fashion among the western left to demand that we ask ourselves: “Why do they hate us?” As I wrote in America Alone all those years ago:
‘Why do they hate us?’ was never the right question. ‘Why do they despise us?’ is a better one.
Just in case our enemies needed another reason to despise us, today the inactivist group Somnolent Tilty-Headed Wankers for Peace launched an exciting new graphic: the same old clapped-out hippie peace symbol but incorporating the Eiffel Tower (right)! Isn’t that a cool, stylish way of showing how saddy-saddy-sadcakes you are about all those corpses in the streets of Paris? It’s already gone viral! And that’s all that matters, isn’t it?
Our enemies use social media to distribute snuff videos as a means of recruitment. We use it to confirm to them how passive and enervated we are: What was it the last time blood ran in the streets of Paris? Oh, yeah, a pencil – for all those dead cartoonists. But, given that blood in the streets of Paris looks like becoming a regular event, it helps to have something of general application. What about, ooh, a tricolor with a blue tear at the end? No, better yet: a peace symbol with a croissant in the middle. No, wait…
What’s that? All you are saying is give peace a chance? But what, in fact, are the chances of peace for Paris and France? What are the odds?
Oh, sorry. All they were saying is give peace a chance. And, having said it, they’ve gone back to sleep until the next atrocity requires another stupid hashtag or useless avatar.
But hey, we’ll get to have who knows how many cute little parades showing how we’re all
Charlie Hebdo Paris now, and how we’re “ Boston Paris strong,” and how we “stand in solidarity with the people of Paris,” and how our “universal values” (which aren’t universal at all) will triumph in the end even if we can’t be bothered to actually defend them beyond crying a lot and lighting some candles and building those maudlin memorials to all the people killed by our fecklessness, cowardice, and inattention every time another of these Moslem slaughters even occurs. So we got that going for us.
We’ll light up our buildings and public squares in red, white, and blue, and sing La Marseillaise and the Star Spangled Banner till our throats are raw. Our news-readers will report all this twee horseshit with a tear in their eye and a quaver in their throats, simply overcome with emotion at the sheer courage of it all, assuring us that such noble, brave heroes as we will never be defeated, because HISTORY™. And the tough, doughty, dauntless #HashtagWarriors will march on, until it’s all forgotten in a couple of weeks, and we’ve all re-assumed the position of presenting our soft underbellies for the next slash of the Moslem scimitar.
At this late date in the death agonies of the enervated West, besieged on one side by violent animals and on the other by idiot Leftists who have nothing but spiteful resentment for the blanket of civilization they cower under, what is there left to say? We aren’t going to do a damned thing to end this. We aren’t going to win the phony “war” we’ve been waging for more than a decade, any more than we are the very real one that’s been waged against the West since Islam came into existence. Even many of those few of us who would like to see more vigorous resistance to Moslem conquest can’t bring themselves to abandon the tattered fig leaf of dodges like “radical Islam” or “extremists” and all the other weasel-words. Nobody, but nobody, in the West whose opinion might actually matter is willing to confront the frightening facts.
And so we get stuff like this, which is good as far as it goes, but is unwilling or unable to go as far as we must.
In an accident of timing that captures his cluelessness, the president actually declared on Friday morning that Islamic State had been “contained,” practically boasting in a TV interview that, “They have not gained ground in Iraq and in Syria.”
What gall. What folly.
Paris is the final straw. Obama’s exemption from reality has expired. He must either commit to leading the free world to victory, or step aside so someone else can.
There is no more time to avoid the truth of war. America must organize the combined forces of the civilized world before Islamic State makes good on its vow to “taste” more American blood.
As a top intelligence adviser told me yesterday, “What they did in Paris means they are coming here.”
In fact, they already are here. Law-enforcement officials say the FBI has as many as 1,000 investigations open into Islamic State sympathizers inside the US.
Is America ready to stop multiple assault teams of suicide bombers? Is New York ready? Or Chicago, Los Angeles or Washington, DC?
Because Paris was a grand success to the terrorists, the propaganda value acts as an incentive for attacks on other western cities. While sparing no effort to stop them here, we must simultaneously destroy them in their foreign bases.
Ain’t. Gonna. Happen. Not now, not ever. We will NEVER muster the balls to confront Islam properly–not after pipsqueak nuisance attacks like we’ve being seeing for decades now that kill hundreds, not after 9/11 which killed thousands, and not after any others either.
If when our Moslem enemies finally manage to pull one off that kills tens or even hundreds of thousands, we’ll still curl up into our usual fetal ball, have ourselves a good cry over a whole bunch of lit candles, hold hands in “solidarity,” and pray for a peace we’re never going to know, and beg for a mercy (like that soon-to-be-dead unarmed French cop on the sidewalk during the Hebdo assault) of which our Moslem enemies are absolutely bereft.
Then we’ll gird ourselves for more of the same by submitting with our usual bovine meekness to more intrusive security theater that secures nothing; more incursions on already-lost freedoms which defend nothing; more pointlessly bellicose speeches from “leaders” who refuse to lead and whose only real skill is talking tough while mincing away from real confrontation; and more self-righteous chest thumping from military higher-ups over the latest precision drone-killing of a couple of the ants in the massive hill–and just never you mind, please, the hordes of other ants already climbing into their places before the bodies of that last couple have stopped smoking…or that the hill itself keeps growing, covering ever more ground.
We lost this war a long time ago, and unlike WW1 or 2, which this conflict in no way resembles anyway, there will be no last-minute transformation of shameful defeat into victory. Those victories required will, determination, and ruthlessness, all qualities bred out of effete Western pusscakes long, long ago. Those victories required that we take the war not just to the Nazi and Shinto “extremists,” but to the Germans and the Japanese who enabled and supported them.
That means dropping the occasional missile from afar on the heads of a specific killer or three is never going to win it. What will win it is confronting Saudi Arabia and stopping the export of its hate-fueled pseudo-religion, and likewise confronting Iran with no dreamy illusions about what they truly are. It will mean destroying Hamas, Hezbollah, and the rest of the Palestinian armies, militias, death squads, and what-have-you. It will mean glaring steely-eyed at CAIR while we do it, to the point that their scalps begin to sweat and they actually shut the hell up for a minute. It will mean severely curtailing Moslem immigration to Western countries, if not ending it altogether. It will mean quarantining Islam in the squalid hellholes it’s already taken over and ruined–which might include several European nations and parts of Michigan–and abandoning any idea of ever letting it out of its bottle again.
It will mean facing once and for all one cold, hard fact, a fact I’ve been repeating endlessly since I started this damned blog over fourteen years ago: it’s the Islam, stupid.
Victory, a real one that might stand a ghost of a chance of bringing real peace with it, will require all of those things–not one of which we’re even remotely prepared to do, or ever will be. So yeah, go ahead and have yourself a good cry for Paris instead if you wish…again. Just don’t use up all your tears; you’ll have occasion to shed plenty more of them in the dark years yet to come.
Update! So close, and yet so far. But it merely confirms the pitiful reality behind my assertion above.
For Democrats, radical Islam is the Ideology-That-Must-Not-Be-Named.
You know what this reminds me of? Lately, I’ve been reading the Harry Potter books to my kids. I’m actually quite grateful for it at the moment because my boys are going to hear some of the news of war and terrorism, and the books give them an understandable frame of reference for the existence and nature of that kind of evil in the world.
But readers of these stories will remember that there is a taboo on the name of the main villain, Lord Voldemort, who is referred to only as “He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named” or “You-Know-Who.” It is a special mark of defiance when our heroes refer to him openly as Voldemort or even by his more prosaic original name, Tom Riddle.
Yet we have a bunch of serious adults running around acting as if the phrase “radical Islam” has been jinxed. All they can offer is oblique references to You-Know-What. Everyone knows we’re talking about Islam, that the Paris attack wasn’t planned and executed by the Presbyterians, but they have a superstitious awe of saying the words.
As Harry Potter’s mentor Dumbledore explains, “Always use the proper name for things. Fear of a name increases fear of the thing itself.” Part of the point of saying the name is to show that you’re not cowed into submission. And the effect of refusing to say it is to show that you are cowed.
And, as I keep saying, “radical Islam” is itself a dodge. There’s nothing whatever “radical” about Islam’s requirement to wage jihad; it’s right there in print, in their precious Little Murder Book. It’s right there in the words of a huge majority of their imams, spoken aloud and without either fear or shame in the huge majority of their mosques, both here and abroad. And it’s nestled deep in the hearts of most Moslems, whether they act directly and overtly support it or limit that support to dancing and handing out candy in the streets after the latest atrocity committed by whichever terrorist group is ascendant this month–or merely to smiling and nodding their heads as they watch news of it in their homes.
There is NO “radical Islam.” There is only Islam, and it demands jihad of all those who follow it. The lie that jihad actually refers to some sort of “inner struggle” is taqiyya, yet another Moslem doctrine blissful ignoramuses in the West would seem to be wholly unaware of. Tracinski, by insisting on the “radical Islam” dodge and attacking Democrat Socialists for refusing to be even that honest, is actually spotlighting a weakness that goes much deeper than that, whether he’s aware of it or not.
Updated update! Daniel Pipes is a good bit more sanguine than I am; he thinks only a few hundred thousand deaths will suffice to end our long slumber:
In addition to the over 27,000 attacks globally connected to Islam since 9/11, or more than 5 per day (as counted by TheReligionOfPeace.com), a huge increase in illegal immigration from the Middle East recently exacerbated feelings of vulnerability and fear. It’s a one-way street, with not a single soul ever heard to announce, “I used to worry about Islamism but I don’t any more.”
These cases make more Westerners worried about Islam and related topics from the building of minarets to female infibulation. Overall, a relentless march rightwards is underway. Surveys of European attitudes show 60 to 70 percent of voters expressing these concerns. Populist individuals like Geert Wilders of the Netherlands and parties like the Sweden Democrats are surging in the polls.
But when it comes to the Establishment – politicians, the police, the press, and the professors – the unrelenting violence has a contrary effect. Those charged with interpreting the attacks live in a bubble of public denial (what they say privately is another matter) in which they feel compelled to pretend that Islam has no role in the violence, out of concern that to recognize it would cause even more problems.
These 4-P professionals bald-facedly feign belief in a mysterious “violent extremist” virus that seems to afflict only Muslims, prompting them to engage in random acts of barbaric violence. Of the many preposterous statements by politicians, my all-time favorite is what Howard Dean, the former governor of Vermont, said about the Charlie Hebdo jihadis: “They’re about as Muslim as I am.”
This defiance of common sense has survived each atrocity and I predict that it will also outlast the Paris massacre. Only a truly massive loss of life, perhaps in the hundreds of thousands, will force the professionals to back off their deeply ingrained pattern of denying an Islamic component in the spate of attacks.
I said I don’t believe even that will do it, and I don’t. But I suppose if (when) the Moslems do to Congress what they did to the Bataclan, I suppose that might finally have some effect. On the politicians, anyway.
The simple truth update! From Ted Cruz:
In the wake of the Paris terrorist attacks, Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Tex.) said President Obama is not interested in protecting the United States. “I recognize that Barack Obama does not wish to defend this country,” Cruz said on “Fox and Friends” “He may have been tired of war, but our enemies are not tired of killing us. And they’re getting stronger.”
Right enough. But our real problem is that Obama’s supporters–and they are legion–feel the same way about it as he does. Update within an update! Can you imagine how hard Obama’s team of idiots (and Hillary’s) must be scrambling around right now, trying to find an anti-Moslem filmmaker they can lock up and blame this one on?
More truth update! From Williamson.
The United States should apply an extraordinary level of scrutiny to visitors from countries whose main exports are jihad — before, during, and possibly even after their stays. And we should place severe limits on immigration to the United States from those countries. Europe’s ambulatory Syrian invasion has a number of Europe’s peoples, such as the Poles, asking themselves why a country that doesn’t already have a large unassimilated Muslim minority in its midst would want one, and there aren’t any convincing answers coming out of Paris or Stockholm or London or Frankfurt or…
Yes, that would constitute an act of terrible callousness to millions of people seeking a better life away from base primitivism in Dar al-Islam, but the responsibility of the United States government is to United States citizens, not to the poor suffering people of Yemen and Syria. The good and the guilty will suffer together, in no small part because the good unwittingly provide the fertile soil in which the guilty cultivate jihad. That suffering will be inflicted in the interest of the citizens of the United States, including its Muslim citizens, many of whom came here precisely to escape the backwardness that thrives in Muslim immigrant communities in France and the United Kingdom. As Turkey’s President Erdogan put it, there is no such thing as moderate Islam; Islam is Islam and that’s that. Where there is Islam, there will be Islamic extremism, Islamic supremacism, and murder.
The United States should not disengage from the Islamic world, by any means — the lack of American leadership only encourages the graybeards in Tehran and elsewhere and contributes to the very instability that enables the emergence of forces such as the Islamic State. But the United States need not make the same decisions Europe has made in the belief that there will be different results once Khalid al-Mihdhar feels the San Diego sunshine on his face. We cannot solve all the problems of the Islamic world, but we can do a great deal to ensure that they are not the immediate problems of Milwaukee.
So simple, so obvious, so perfectly correct to the last particular…and it isn’t even remotely likely to happen.
Can I get an amen update! Diplomad:
I see articles arguing over whether the attack is Al Qaeda or ISIS. Whether this attack is typical of this group or that one. I have said this so many times that I am reluctant to say it again. The issue is not Boko Haram, Hamas, Al Qaeda, ISIS, Jamyat Islamia, or any other terrorist band. The issue is not Islamist “extremism,” or a nutty fringe of Islam. The threat we face comes from Islam and the progressive delusions that have allowed Islam to plant itself in our midsts and flourish, grow and operate with near impunity. My friends, as I have written many times (here, for example) progressivism will get you killed. Progressivism, also a totalitarian belief system, is clearly now the deadliest creed on the planet, and has formed a Molotov-Ribbentrop-type pact with Islam. Progressivism, above all, is about denying realityand promoting delusion.
The cost of progressive delusions is seen every day. The people of Paris just paid that cost, yet again, yesterday.
We all will. Taking the rest of us down with them always was a core part of the Progressivist program, after all.
