Cold Fury

Harshing your mellow since 9/01

Mensch, defined

Were Obama possessed of any humility at all, along with half a lick of sense and some honest self-awareness regarding the space he actually occupies in this world rather than the one he flatters himself he does, he’d be taking notes right now.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu glared in silence at delegates at the United Nations General Assembly for more than 45 seconds during a Thursday speech where he criticized the international community’s response to Iran’s threats against his country.

“Seventy years after the murder of 6 million Jews, Iran’s rulers promise to destroy my country, murder my people, and the response from this body, the response from nearly every one of the governments represented here has been absolutely nothing,” Netanyahu said. “Utter silence. Deafening silence.”

What followed were more than 45 seconds of silence where Netanyahu stared down the audience inside the auditorium.

You really have to watch the video to get just how powerful this moment was. This is what moral courage and authority looks like, folks. This is what integrity looks like. This is what leadership, real leadership, looks like. We in this country could be forgiven for having difficulty recognizing it; been a very long time indeed since we saw any of it, frankly. It stands greatly to Obama’s discredit–tells you all you’d ever need to know about him, really–that he holds Bibi in such obvious contempt. It’s sad, when you get right down to it; Obama’s clueless disdain is almost pitiable. Almost. Obama might have an inch over Bibi in physical height, but he is a vastly smaller man in every way that matters. More from Limbaugh:

I think Obama has one singular focus in the Middle East, and that’s Iran. And I hate to say this, but I’m just basing it on what I observe, combined with my intelligence guided by experience, and I’m sadly convinced that Obama’s mission here is to make sure that Iran does indeed go nuclear and is able to dominate that region. I don’t know how you can conclude otherwise.

You can’t, if you just follow the simple CF rule for analyzing Obama’s actions. Y’all know it already, so I won’t repeat it now, but I suppose I ought to add it in to the CF Glossary over in the sidebar at some point.

My best guess? Obama and his fellow Leftwits believe that if the Leftist project comes to full fruition in its Middle East aspect (and he believes that to be as inevitable as world socialism), Israel will be gone, and he wishes to pivot us to improved relations with the Moslem savages he viscerally favors anyway–believing that crawling to them, flattering them, and buying them off is the best course to guarantee some semblance of security, trusting the Moslem shitrapies’ munificence to secure it for us. That’s if you want to believe that Obama has any concern for American security at all and is astute enough to recognize the nature of the threat, neither of which I am, shall we say, prepared to stipulate (CF Rule again). But hey, YMMV, I’m just spitballin’ here. More from Bibi (and Rush):

NETANYAHU: Last month, Khamenei once again made his genocidal intentions clear before Iran’s top clerical body, the assembly of experts. He spoke about Israel, home to over six million Jews. He pledged, “There will be no Israel in 25 years.” Seventy years after the murder of six million Jews, Iran’s rulers promised to destroy my country, murder my people, and the response from this body, the response from nearly every one of the governments represented here has been absolutely nothing, utter silence, deafening silence.

RUSH: That is when he allowed 45 seconds to go by without saying a word. At that moment he stood mute for 45 seconds. When he resumed speaking…

He didn’t merely stand mute. He stared them down. Not belligerently or bellicosely, necessarily–although that would be appropriate too, and would not have bothered me in the least. Just…seriously. Almost disappointed, like, his eyes wandering the entire room as if to let them know they may fool themselves, but not him–not ever him. But make no mistake: he was calling them out. His moral authority as he speaks for a tiny nation surrounded by enemies absolutely serious and open about their genocidal intentions is truly a marvel to behold, especially given the nature of the weasels, snakes, and slimy worms he was indicting. J’accuse doesn’t even begin to cover it. And it shouldn’t–couldn’t.

NETANYAHU: It’s not easy to oppose something that is embraced by the greatest powers in the world. Believe me, it would be far easier to remain silent. But throughout our history, the Jewish people have learned the heavy price of silence, and as the prime minister of the Jewish state — as someone who knows that history — I refuse to be silent.

UN: (applause)

RUSH: We edited the applause, but it went on. Actually, I was kind of surprised by how much applause there was. Netanyahu’s hated at this place. He’s literally despised at this place. Now, half of the people that despise him were not there. They boycotted and didn’t show up. But I think it goes to tell you something that Israel, Netanyahu — our number one ally in that region — is despised and hated. And yet Iranian speakers can get up, or Hugo Chavez when he was alive get up, and it’s standing ovations, raucous standing ovations. It’s because the United Nations is a joke of an organization and has been for a long time. It’s aimed at fleecing the US, is essentially its purpose now.

Fleecing it, and hogtying it, and steercotting it (how’s THAT for mixing them barnyard metaphors, eh?), and scorning it–indulging their ugly envy while lining their own pockets with its riches while blaming it for their own kleptocracy-and-corruption-created lack.

God bless Bibi, and his now-beleaguered nation too. All Israelis should be proud to have a man like him leading them in very parlous times. And very damned grateful, too. We here in the US could be forgiven for a little envy of our own in his case, and must painfully acknowledge a certain sad lack ourselves. Yet more:

Perhaps you can now understand why Israel is not joining you in celebrating this deal. If Iran’s rulers were working to destroy your countries, perhaps you’d be less enthusiastic about the deal. If Iran’s terror proxies were firing thousands of rockets at your cities, perhaps you’d be more measured in your praise. And if this deal were unleashing a nuclear arms race in your neighborhood, perhaps you’d be more reluctant to celebrate.

But don’t think that Iran is only a danger to Israel. Besides Iran’s aggression in the Middle East and its terror around the world, Iran is also building intercontinental ballistic missiles whose sole purpose is to carry nuclear warheads. Now remember this: Iran already has missiles that can reach Israel. So those intercontinental ballistic missiles that Iran is building – they’re not meant for us – They’re meant for you. For Europe. For America. For raining down mass destruction – anytime, anywhere.

Emphasis mine, but audible enough in the speech. We haven’t heard clear, straightforward, honest, unambiguous, and…well, powerful rhetoric like this from an American leader since some of Bush’s speeches immediately post-9/11–and despite his later stumbling over a misguided Moslem Democracy Project (which I freely admit to having vociferously supported at the time, blind fool that I was), Dubya did manage to hit several nails pretty damned squarely on their heads on more than one occasion in those early, fraught, fearful days.

We’ve come a long way since then, almost every step of it in the wrong direction. At least we have Netanyahu to remind us of what the problem really is–and of how it’s going to have to be dealt with eventually, due entirely to the general abdication if not outright capitulation of the rest of Western “leadership.”

Iran particularly and the Moslem world more broadly has been committing serious acts of 4th-generation warfare against us pretty much continuously since 1979. Any one of those acts of war were entirely actionable, and demanded response. Still we slept. On 9/11, we were forcibly awakened from a long slumber, for a too-brief time. Then we went back to sleep.

Netanyahu and his nation can’t afford to be anything other than wide awake, 24-7-365, one hundred percent of the time, every minute of their day. We fail to heed his warning not just at our peril, but at his, and everyone else’s not interested in submitting to the evil of sharia and unwilling to descend into the long darkness of dhimmitude and slavery. Because those are the only two choices the jihadist malefactors, with Iran currently at their head, are offering us.

Obama, either stupidly or calculatingly, by rolling over and showing his yellow belly with his idiotic and dangerous Iran treaty (not “deal,” not “agreement,” mind), has now made shia Iran the tip of the jihadist spear. Netanyahu knows very well where that spear is pointed first. He also knows that Israel will not be the last to be impaled. Time for the rest of the West to listen, and to heed. Past time.
