And a richly-deserved slap in the face to jihad sympathizer and Iranian mullah-supporter Hussein Obama. Would that we were capable of making wiser choices ourselves.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was poised to earn a third consecutive term Wednesday after his conservative Likud party earned the most votes in parliamentary elections.
Netanyahu and his main opponent, Isaac Herzog, must now compete to form a workable government that holds a majority in Israel’s 120-member Knesset, though the incumbent is in a slightly better position to do so after Tuesday’s vote.
According to official results reported in Israeli media early Wednesday, Likud had won 29 seats, five more than its main competitor, Herzog’s centrist Zionist Union.
As is usual with American media reports–yes, even Fox–there are basically two political flavors, both here and elsewhere: “right-wing” and “centrist,” with nary a scrofulous, appeasement-minded Leftist in sight anywhere. Apparently Herzog and Labor didn’t manage to fool enough Israelis this time around. Good for the Israelis, bad for Barky…and therefore, contra Jew-hating bigots like Pat Buchanan, good for America too.
Update! “Laugh but listen.”
“Not one of the lessons of the past has been learned, not one of them has been applied, and the situation is incomparably more dangerous,” Churchill said in 1934. And every one of those words is more urgently true today, in a nuclear age.
Not long after 9/11 I saw a question asked of some Brit politician or pundit–I’ve tried several times since to find it again, and never have been able to–whether Britain would be able to stand firm and defeat Muslim terrorism. The response was perfect: “The real question is whether Britain remains Britain.” That question has been answered, and not in the affirmative; America is without question no longer America, or anything even remotely resembling it. Nice to see that at least Israel remains Israel–for a while yet, anyway.
