Picking up where I left off: more progtards get suckered. Although I do hesitate to refer to Powers as that; she’s actually made a little bit of sense here and there–and does so here too:
On Tuesday, two prominent media personalities who support President Barack Obama’s overhaul of America’s health care system took to the airwaves to vent about their insurance plans which have been cancelled as a direct result of the Affordable Care Act.
In an appearance on Special Report on Tuesday, Fox News Channel contributor and Daily Beast editorial writer Kirsten Powers lashed out at the White House – and, by extension, her Democratic cohorts – for implying that her consumer choices were poorly informed and insufficiently focused on the collective good.
“My blood pressure goes up every time they say that they’re protecting us from substandard health insurance plans,” Powers told Bret Baier. “There is nothing to support what they’re saying.”
“I have talked to about how I’m losing my health insurance,” she continued. “If I want to keep the same health insurance, it’s going to cost twice as much. There’s nothing substandard about my plan.”
“All of the things they say that are not in my plan are in my plan,” Powers lamented. “All of the things they have listed — there’s no explanation for doubling my premiums other than the fact that it’s subsidizing other people. They need to be honest about that.”
They couldn’t afford to be, Kristen. That’s why they lied–to you, to me, to every American–over, and over, and over again. And they’re still doing it:
The fight over how to define the new health law’s success is coming down to one question: Who counts as an Obamacare enrollee?
Health insurance plans only count subscribers as enrolled in a health plan once they’ve submitted a payment. That is when the carrier sends out a member card and begins paying doctor bills.
When the Obama administration releases health law enrollment figures later this week, though, it will use a more expansive definition. It will count people who have purchased a plan as well as those who have a plan sitting in their online shopping cart but have not yet paid.
We now know just how pathetic those bogus numbers are–and 80 percent haven’t availed themselves of Obama’s wonderful, “cheaper,” “better” government-forced plans, but opted for the Medicaid freebie instead. Nobody should be surprised by any of this by now; it’s exactly the same sort of goalpost-shift that allows them to claim unemployment figures below 8 percent, when they’re actually closer to 20…or higher. As Glenn always says, it’s Potemkin villages all the way down with these blackguards.
But what the hell else can anybody possibly expect from them? We’re a Potemkin nation now, following in the old Soviet Union’s deceitful-propaganda footsteps even as we allow ourselves to be dragged closer to that horrid apogee of evil in so many other ways too.
We tell ourselves we’re “free” when we aren’t even allowed the choice of which lightbulbs to buy. Our very exhalation is regulated by a vast, out-of-control, and wholly untouchable bureaucracy. We call ourselves a “Constitutional republic” when that Constitution has been routinely trampled, to ever-growing degree, for decades.
We’re the most powerful nation on earth, and do in fact have the most well-trained, well-equipped, and all around best military in history…but we’re leaving a third-world shithole with our tail tucked between our legs and submitting to gross indignities at every airport in the country because we lack the national will to do what is necessary to win an existential war, preferring instead to de facto submit and pat ourselves on the back for how very brave we are in our commitment to a “diversity” that encompasses “tolerance” for a totalitarian ideology masquerading as a religion that enslaves women, subjugates gays, violently assaults people who dare to profess other faiths, and is diametrically opposed generally to every single tenet we claim to be courageously defending and upholding.
We claim to revere the Founders, but the only thing our schoolkids are taught about them is that they were awful, awful privileged rich white men who owned slaves, and whose adherence to the sometimes flawed mores of their time therefore must necessarily disqualify them from ever having had a worthwhile idea. Meanwhile, absolute obedience to the edicts of an illegitimate government is given far more weight than an appreciation of the core principles we’ve so foolishly turned our backs on.
And we humbly allow ourselves to be misruled by slimy, amoral vermin for whom lies are as necessary as oxygen–“career politicians” in a nation where no such vile animal was ever supposed to be allowed to exist. As such, the lies will go right on piling up and piling up, until the whole abominable ziggurat comes crashing down on all of us.
WASHINGTON — As the problems with Obamacare seem to grow by the day, anxious House Democrats have reached their tipping point.
Millions of their constituents have received cancellation notices from insurance companies, despite President Barack Obama and Democrats repeatedly promising that “if you like your plan, you can keep it” under the health care law. Meanwhile, the troubled HealthCare.gov continues to be plagued with issues, and the administration is struggling to get it fully functional before the end of the month…
“We weren’t making grandiose claims. He doesn’t have to run again, I don’t know why he needs to make such grandiose claims. Some of this stuff is just gratuitous rhetoric,” he said.
Oh, izzat so?
Democratic representative Bruce Braley of Iowa says it was “appropriate” for the president to apologize for the fact that many Americans won’t be able to keep their health-care plans — but he’s made the same guarantees in the past, and his own website still contains the promise.
“I think it was appropriate for the president to do what he thought was right,” Braley told a local television station. But on his congressional website, Braley assures constituents that they can “maintain their choice of health insurance” thanks to his “proud” work on the health-care law.
Of course, he is hardly the only one. So even as these Democrat Socialist swine go haring off for any political cover they can find from the disaster they dishonestly rammed down our throats, they continue to lie. In fact, the scramble for protection from the inevitable fallout of something they wholeheartedly supported is a kind of lie all on its own.
So where HAS that clownish giant gavel of yours gotten to anyway, Nancy?
Look, people: you were never going to be able to “keep your plan.” In fact, the whole socialist house of cards that is Obamacare depended on your not being able to keep it, then being forced by the full might of the US government onto the more expensive plans they left as your only “choice.” Losing the affordable insurance you already had so that the government could sop up more of your hard-earned, like biscuits in honey, to subsidize people who didn’t have or didn’t want insurance was the whole damned point. It was all along. And every damned lying Democrat Socialist involved, from Obama on down, knew it from the start.
Likewise, all this nonsense about passing another hurry-up piece of legislation to “allow” you to keep your already-cancelled plan is horseshit of the purest ray serene. Those plans are CANCELLED, as in gone, defunct, over and done with. This happened because it was required by the law–the “settled law” of the ACA. And though they’re squirming mightily now and pretending to be all for it, Obama and the Democrat Socialists simply can’t afford to let it happen. But they’ll sure be happy enough to get GOP fingerprints on their contemptible clusterfuck in the guise of “fixing” it, so they’ll pretend for now to be concerned about the millions of people they intend to fleece and act as if they support this idea…while dismissing the Five Percenters as insignificant and not worth bothering about.
And just never you mind that that five percent represents a number about that of the gay population in the US, and is orders of magnitude larger than even the fraudulent, inflated number who have signed up for Obama’s Mo’ Bettah Plans.
Then, when the illegally-delayed employer mandate kicks in next year, tens of millions MORE will be kicked off suddenly nonexistent plans and forced into the inferior and expensive government-mandated ones. Those people will see their work hours slashed, or their jobs eliminated outright, as sinking employers try desperately to stay in business in Obama’s economy. And everybody will act all surprised at this UNEXPECTED! turn of events, and the cycle will begin anew. And Grond crawls on.
History 101 for “liberal” dumbasses: there is a reason our Founders insisted on a limited federal government, and it’s a very damned good one–more than one, actually. There’s an old military axiom: he who defends everything, defends nothing. Likewise with those who try to govern everything: government can only be truly efficient, effective, and just when it’s closest to those governed. A smaller-scale government that is within reach of its citizens, limited to its immediate geographical area of influence, is much more subject to correction from them when it errs or oversteps its proper bounds, and thus will always be more responsive to the desires of those directly under its sway. This in part (but not entirely) accounts for their insistence on the primacy of the States, with the central government to oversee interaction between them without directly managing them itself.
This ideal, of course, is directly opposed to the most fundamental tenet of Progressivism: that individuals should be corralled and controlled by a government of “experts,” who can best make the decisions the ignorant, bleating Sheeple can’t be trusted with–the irony here being that such a controlling and manipulative State tends to create the very kind of mindless, helpless feebs whose existence it uses to justify its own insidious power. Society can only be directed on the proper path by an all-powerful central authority, which will not only see to it that we all do the right thing, but will decide for us what the right thing is.
Anyways, that’s the affirmative reason for the Founders’ distrust and fear of too-powerful government. The negative one is the central fact of what government truly is. Contrary to the “liberal” assumption that government exists to guarantee the happiness and well-being of its subjects–a mostly benevolent force for objective good–governments really exist for one purpose and one purpose only: to consolidate and expand their own power. Go read up on the earliest origins of what we might consider modern government sometime; you’ll find that government was assuredly not a well-intentioned and naturally-evolving aggregation of the people themselves, instituted to protect and nurture them. Not hardly. (FEMILEFTY IRONY ALERT: the origin of government across the globe and in all cultures was…GASP…patriarchy.)
The Founders knew that tyranny was not just a dim or remote possibility; given enough time and left unchecked, and given the very nature of government itself, tyranny was inevitable. And, well, here we are: being forced by the central government to buy something whether we want or need it or not. Being stripped by that government of our choice of insurance plans that suit our needs as we perceive and define them. Being forced at gunpoint to subsidize others who may or may not be deserving of such largesse. Being forced to pay exorbitant prices for coverage we don’t want or need–maternity care for men and menopausal women; mental health care for those with no history or hereditary tendency towards mental disorder; contraception for all; abortion for those deeply and sincerely opposed to it.
Being forced. Choices limited. Options denied. Wealth redistributed, pockets picked.
Against your will, and to your great detriment. All established by naked fraud. By a web of deceit. By lies.
This is what government is. This. Is. What. It. Does. The Founders knew it. Some of us haven’t forgotten their warning. Others mocked us, and them, for our common-sense distrust of a bloated and rapacious central authority. Those of them now being stripped of coverage they were content with, and those of their political masters now turning on their Dear Leader because they perceive a threat to themselves, are merely reaping the bitter harvest sown by their ahistorical naiveté and malfeasance.
Yes, you people were warned about what was coming with such a massive–and transparent–power-grab as Obamacare represents. Those warnings didn’t just start with the latter-day Tea Partiers, either; they started at the nation’s founding, an undeniable cri de coeur from the originals themselves. “Liberal” fools chose to ignore those warnings, and to obnoxiously deride all those who offered them.
So cry us all a river now that your totalitarian dream is blowing up in your faces, exactly as such dreams always have and always must. We’re just optimistic enough to hold out hope that this will serve to get you to see the light at last…but we’re experienced enough that we aren’t holding our breath.
If there’s any justice left in this world, it will be you and not us who end up choking on it.
Update! Jonah is all in on the schadenfraude: “This is how you know we’re in the political sweet spot: when the only plausible excuses for the administration are equally disastrous indictments.” I’d excerpt a lot more of it, but Jonah reels off so many great lines I wouldn’t know where to stop. Another little taste:
The president may now claim that he knew nothing, but he must have wondered why Henry Chao, Healthcare.gov’s chief project manager, set the bar of success at sea level last March: “Let’s just make sure it’s not a Third World experience.” At this point, it could only be more of a Third World experience if Healthcare.gov required enrollees to pay with chickens.
THAT’S good squishy, folks, and there’s a whole lot more of it. Just go on and enjoy every delicious word.
Bad dream update! Democrat Socialists can’t wake up.
This call for help in “fixing” ObamaCare is just another example of the fantasy thinking that produced this disaster in the first place. The law’s backers seemed to think that they could suspend the laws of economics and mathematics, providing massive benefits with no costs; that individuals would somehow stop responding to actual economic incentives and instead do what central planners wished they would do; that the planners could understand, predict, and control all the consequences of a massive, vaguely defined overhaul of one-sixth of the economy; and that the federal government would somehow become a model of efficiency in building large systems, creating an online health insurance market that would make Jeff Bezos green with envy.
Then, on top of all that, they expected the opposition to stop opposing.
This, like the rest of the fantasies, exploded on contact with reality.
(Color Of) Money quote: It’s like a nightmare, isn’t it? It just keeps getting worse and worse. Flop sweat never smelled so sweet.
Music to my ears update! Stephen Green: “A 23rd Century orbital nano tech fab couldn’t manufacture a violin small enough to play for today’s Congressional Democrats.” And elsewhere:
The fact is that we have an unworkable law being promulgated by witless bureaucrats working for a deeply disinterested executive.
Let? It? Burn? You might as well try to extinguish napalm with a squirt gun.
I prefer a Supersoaker loaded with gasoline, myself.
