Apologizing to a Lefty whore: what it gets you in the end

Nothing but more of the same old shit. Which is why you just don’t do it.

Part of what’s so poisonous about our culture is that we reward people more, the more vicious and cruel and thuggish they get (then, of course, we turn around and complain about the coarseness and ugliness of our politics and media). I disapprove vehemently of Limbaugh’s personal slurs against that young woman, because I thought they were nasty and misogynistic. What he said was wrong. What he said in his apology — “I sincerely apologize to Ms. Fluke for the insulting word choices” — was right.

So in this case, I want to reward him for doing what’s right. After condemning what he said that was wrong, and endorsing what he said that he was right, I think we should — to coin a phrase — “move on.” To continue the controversy at this point would be merely to pursue the vendetta against Limbaugh in exactly the way that has landed us in the mess our culture’s in. In short: If people don’t let this go at this point, they shouldn’t complain the next time somebody engages in insults, refuses to apologize, and makes our culture even coarser. If you reward something, you tend to get more of it. Let’s try rewarding decency for a change, and see what happens.

Yeah, right. How’s that working out for ya so far? Oh, exactly as it has in the past. And always will.

I mean, seriously: can anyone POSSIBLY expect that the Left is going to suddenly develop a sense of decency and accept Limbaugh’s apology, and then “move on”? Seriously? The same sane, civil Left that…well, there’s just not any reason to go through the litany of their disgusting, abusive behavior towards anyone who disagrees with them. Here’s a clue: they don’t give a damn about any apology from Rush, or from anybody else. They want him taken off the air. They want him destroyed personally. They’ve wanted this for a long time; they’ve tried many times before, and right now–in advance of the election–is a perfect time for them to try, try again.

What Rush has done here may or may not be the decent, right thing to do. But what he has most certainly done is this: he has shown weakness. And you can bet that the Lefty scum is now smelling blood in the water, and will redouble their efforts. In fact, they’re even going after Kim Komando, someone totally uninvolved in all this, merely because she has some of the same advertisers as Limbaugh does…or did. It’s a flanking attack in support of their larger campaign. Prof Jacobson has the right of it: this is total war.

To think for a moment that the Left will respond honorably to any attempt to treat with them with decency and respect is every bit as foolish as thinking that the Taliban would do the same. In the end, this is what it’s really all about:

Just as I will not pretend Obama is merely “incompetent,” I won’t pretend Ms Fluke is just a well-meaning pawn being used by the Democrats to put an innocuous and “courageous” face on its agenda. Instead, I view her as an interested operator and, by virtue of her new alliance with Congressional Democrats, a managed operative hoping to cash in on our carefully-nurtured cultural fears of appearing “insensitive” or, if we happen to be males, of overstepping “our place” by virtue of even having and voicing an opinion with respect to “women’s issues” (or “mansplaining,” as some castrated beta male liberal tried to frame it for me on Twitter last evening).

What we have here is an activist feminist and a committed progressive. Which means that, while she insists that private industry has no right to make its own choices, simultaneously she and the government have a right to tell people of conscience what they must purchase and provide — even though prior to this wholly manufactured issue, there was absolutely no crisis with respect to securing contraceptives (and in fact there still isn’t one).

And that’s because this is not about contraception and never has been — and our Reproductive Rights champion knows it. Instead, the entirety of this issue redounds to using government to force a social and political agenda on those who would resist; it’s about an attack by the secular state on those civil institutions, like churches, that by way of competition trouble its desire for total authoritarian control over the individual and his sets of choices; and its ultimate goal is not to secure affordable contraceptives — free markets and competition provide for that — but rather to secure conformity, and to loosen the hold “individualism” and “individual choice” exert on our traditional cultural consciousness in this country.

In short, it’s a plea for progressive tyranny dressed up in shame politics, maudlin emotional appeals, and the empty promises of a “benevolent” State whose technocratic expertise, they’d like you to believe, is being managed to protect your security and secure your positive “rights” — not their own hoarding of power and influence.

And Ms Fluke’s testimony was merely another bit of propaganda geared toward blunting any resolve we can muster to resist. Sadly, too many on the right — in a rush to show their own “compassion” and “understanding” and “sophistication” — not only accept the left’s premises and framing of the issue, but they are oftentimes more concerned with chiding conservatives forcefully beating back those premises than they are with the institutionalized power and epistemological ubiquity of the premises themselves.

To hell with apologizing to totalitarian sneak-thieves and supporting players who present themselves under false pretenses, whoring themselves out to promote the agenda of Progressivists and the Almighty State via lies and misdirection. And to hell with those too squeamish to recognize not just the stakes, but that we’re even in an all-out war for our Constitution, our liberty, and truth itself in the first place. As for “rewarding decency for a change, and see(ing) what happens”, one of Jeff’s commenters says it for me:

You’re seeing what happens. Because you’re not rewarding “decency”, you’re rewarding indecency in the name of civility.

I intend to coarsen. I want stark contrasts drawn. I want polarization. I want “moderates” to pick a side. I will not quietly accept socialism so as not to upset anyone. I am not tolerant of our impending and increasing slavery.

We’re at a fork in the road. There is no middle path. Time to choose. And there is no time to whine about the people explaining this to you.

Exactly, precisely so. Those who refuse to recognize the essential indecency of the enemy are doomed to be swamped and defeated by them; it’s akin to adopting ROE requiring soldiers to go into the field without ammunition. Which, we tried that already in Afghanistan. I repeat, for those “moderates” so eager to whirl on Rush and demand a pointless apology to a dishonest, all-in activist for the other side: how’d that work out for ya?

It’s why, with every “compromise,” every reach across the aisle by “moderates” and the smugly “reasonable,” we’ve lurched ever Leftward–and why, if those “moderates” keep on winning, we will continue to do so. It’s why Romney is simply unacceptable. It’s why some of us are so despairing of the GOP’s ability or desire to effect real change at all. What’s the point of occupying the “high ground” if the landscape all around it is a blasted, impoverished socialist wasteland? Of taking the “high road” through a dismal, noisome swamp filled with leering, jeering Lefty goblins?

“I intend to coarsen.” Or, as another great, uncompromising war leader once said: “Sure as I know anything, I know this – they will try again. Maybe on another world, maybe on this very ground swept clean. A year from now, ten? They’ll swing back to the belief that they can make people…better. I do not hold to that. So no more runnin’. I aim to misbehave.”

Apology, my ass. Less Caspar Milquetoast, more Captain Mal, that’s what I say.

Update! To hell with Carbonite, too. Not that I ever could see any reason for bothering with them in an age of ultra-cheap hard drives and readily-available free backup software anyway. And evidently, in that, I am not alone.

WWBD update! Related? You bet it is.

Among the many things that made Andrew Breitbart a great man was that he played offense. Most of the time warriors for freedom find themselves playing defense. Instead, we should follow Breitbart’s example.

So many, many times I have been speaking at anti-jihad events and heard other speakers saying, “We are not racists, we are not bigots, we are not Islamophobes…” This is an understandable impulse: to counter the leftist/Islamic supremacist charges that smear and defame decent people who are trying to defend their freedoms and way of life. But at the same, it is playing on their field, allowing the foes of freedom to set the terms of the debate. Breitbart never did that.

That’s just the opening. Trust me, you really, really want to read the rest of it.

Does “I yield” mean surrender update! Rush explains his cave-in: it’s the tired old “descending to their level” argument. High road through political swamp. Contrary to this specious line of argument, you don’t “descend to their level” by speaking the plain truth about them, and fighting them hard and, when necessary, dirty. But that’s just my opinion, I guess, and YMMV. It’s obvious that Rush’s does, at any rate.

  1. Debellatio is the only solution to this. (look the word up, it’s my new favorite)

Let the Milquetoasts whine and kvetch about the need to be polite and kind, to be reasonable and thoughtful. You don’t apologize to a forest fire, you don’t negotiate with a termite infestation in your attic, and you sure as hell don’t worry about the feelings of a slime mold you find in the Tupperware on the top shelf of the refrigerator.

  2. I find myself wondering if I will ever look at Limbaugh the same way again. Somehow I doubt it. His behavior in this incident shows that he either doesn’t understand what he’s up against (contrary to his claim that he knows the Left better than they know themselves) or that he is a craven coward.

    I fear it’s the latter.

  3. I prefer Judge Roy Bean’s apology to the one Rush offered:

“I understand you have taken exception to my calling you whores. I’m sorry. I apologize. I ask you to note that I did not call you callous-ass strumpets, fornicatresses, or low-born gutter sluts. But I did say ‘whores’. No escaping that. And for that slip of the tongue, I apologize.
    – Paul Newman as Judge Roy Bean in the movie “The Life and Times of Judge Roy Bean”

  4. So Pelosi’s thirty year old ‘reproductive rights activist’ chooses GT and then complains about their policies. Hmm hmm hmm. With every day that passes it sounds less like she signed up for an education and more like a plant pushing the DNC/Obama/Pelosi agenda. Planted with the explicit intent of causing GT economic injury and damaging their reputation. Sure makes me wonder how Pelosi ‘discovered’ this person, who she really is, and who is paying the bills.

Bet the LSM starts investigating her background, her family and friends backgrounds, and her associations, just like they did to Palin, Joe the Plumber, etc. Any second now… Soon… Or not. /s

  5. Rush will come out of this, it’s been tried before, at least that’s my hope. I doubt that one can play at his level for a quarter century or more and not fumble now and again.

“Slut” seems to be a chancy way to play it–it’s one of those “voting words”, once heard, people come to a judgement about whether the intended target merits it. I know once I heard that silly cow (Sandra Fluke, if that’s your real name…) claim she required 3,000 dollars worth of contraceptives, I did think to my self, “Wow! That’s a more boning the human body can stand! Must be the most popular 3L that Georgetown Law has ever had, or at least a goodly portion of it”

“Craven coward”, says Ray H. Unless ‘Ray H.’ is a sock for some other talk host, you’ve never even been on the field, boyo. How many organizations devote themselves to stripping you, personally, of your livelyhood? No, I didn’t think there was.

  6. you’ve never even been on the field, boyo

True enough. I’ve also never gone on 500+ radio stations for 15 hours a week and told anybody who would listen what a bad ass motherfucker I am. I’ve also never told 20 million plus people that I know the Left better than they know themselves. I’ve also never told any and every elected Republican in earshot that they have to stand up to the radical Left and then caved to the radical Left at the first sign of blowback from the radical Left, boyo.

  7. And there have been other times when he didn’t, this is not the first time the Domestic Enemies have tried to ruin the man. Glad to know you have his back.

Somehow, I sense a little bitterness from you at this undesirable turn of events. I’m not happy, either, I just remember that some people have problems I don’t.

  8. I sense a little bitterness from you at this undesirable turn of events.

Not bitterness, disappointment. I’ve had a knot in my stomach ever since I read Limbaugh’s cave-in announcement. Of all the times for him to capitulate, this may be the worst. He’s done nothing to advance the cause of liberty and everything to embolden the Left. He has to know that appeasement never results in anything good and often results in your enemy becoming more aggressive and demanding. Such is the (entirely predictable) case now, with the Left starting petitions to have him removed from his show, calls for him to be sued, continuing attacks on his advertises, attacks on entirely unrelated shows that have some of the same advertisers, etc., etc.

Yes, he will probably weather this unnecessarily self-inflected storm. But he had no need to bring it on to begin with. His listeners would have had his back as they have in the past, but for whatever reason he chose capitulation and appeasement instead of the stand-up fight we all were expecting. So, yes I’m very disappointed in Rush. I expected better of him, especially now with the nation in such peril from a radical Left that has never been more emboldened.

The last two paragraphs of this post probably sum up my thoughts as well as anything I’ve read on the matter:
